Canon EOS-1D Mark II DSLR Review

Steves-Digicams review the 8.2 megapixel Canon EOS-1D Mark II Digital SLR:

"The EOS-1D Mark II N Professional Digital SLR preserves the speed, responsiveness, image quality and reliability of the popular EOS-1D Mark II while incorporating newly refined features that make the camera easier and more precise to use. Firing at the same 8.5 frames per second, the 1D Mark II N captures up to 48 full-resolution JPEG images in a burst. It employs the same large-plate 8.2-megapixel CMOS sensor as the 1D Mark II and adds a larger 2.5-inch, wide-angle view color LCD/TFT monitor for crisp image playback. Startup time on the new camera has also dropped to 0.2 seconds (from 0.3) with the help of Canon’s DIGIC II Image Processor."

Canon Digital IXUS 55 / SD450 Review

Digital IXUS 55Steves-Digicams review the new ultra compact Canon Digital IXUS 55 / Powershot SD450, it features a large 2.5" screen and a 3x optical zoom lens:

"The pocket-sized 7.1 Megapixel PowerShot SD550 Digital ELPH and 5.0 Megapixel PowerShot SD450 Digital ELPH cameras, join Canon’s line-up between the SD500 and SD400 models which will continue to be available. The new PowerShot SD450 and 450 Digital ELPH cameras offer consumers a big 2.5-inch LCD screen, while retaining Canon’s famed functionality and optical viewfinder. Additionally, the new cameras feature a new UI display designed to capitalize on the larger screen size."

Olympus Mju Digital 800 / Stylus Review

Olympus 800Imaging-Resource review the new 8 megapixel Olympus Mju Digital 800 / Stylus 800 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a large 2.5" screen:

"The Olympus Stylus 800 is the latest in the compact Stylus line of digital cameras from that company. Featuring an 8.0-megapixel CCD, 3x lens, "all-weather" body design, and relatively compact size, the Olympus Stylus 800 Digital is reminiscent of the previous Stylus 500 model, with an automatic sliding lens cover and large, 2.5-inch LCD monitor for image composition (but no optical viewfinder)."

You can read my review of the Olympus Mju Digital 800 / Stylus 800 here.

Canon Digital IXUS 750 / SD550 Review

Digital IXUSImaging-Resource review the new 7 megapixel Canon Digital IXUS 750 / Powershot SD550, it has a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"The Canon SD550 features a 3x, 7.7-23.1mm zoom lens, equivalent to a 37-111mm zoom on a 35mm camera. Aperture is automatically controlled, but the maximum setting ranges from f/2.8 at full wide angle to f/4.9 at full telephoto. A maximum 4x digital zoom option increases the SD550's zoom capability to 12x, but keep in mind that digital zoom decreases the overall image quality, because it simply crops out and enlarges the center pixels of the CCD's image. Image details are thus likely to be softer when using digital zoom."

Panasonic Lumix FZ30 Review

Panasonic Lumix FZ30DesignTechnica review the new 8 megapixel Panasonic Lumix FZ30, it features a 12x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation:

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 is available in black or silver finish; I much prefer the black since it gives a heavy D-SLR vibe. When you snap on the lens hood, only the savviest photographers will know any different. However, I’d put the shade on once to admire the view then return it to the box since you’ll run into vignetting problems when using the flash. The camera does have a very clean look with a minimum amount of keys and dials."

Nikon Coolpix S4 Preview

Nikon Coolpix S4LetsGoDigital.org preview the new 6 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S4 - it features a swivel 10x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"The Nikon Coolpix S4 is one of the Coolpix cameras Nikon introduced just before the IFA 2005 kicked off. The concept of the Nikon S4 is rather familiar. The adjustable lens is also found on the Coolpix 4500 and 995 digital cameras. At the time this already was a successful concept also because of the extensive possibilities these cameras had to offer. In fact many photographers considered the before mentioned cameras to be attractive second cameras. Despite the look-alike design of the Nikon Coolpix S4 compared with its predecessors, the target group seems to have changed."

Olympus - Cheapest Ever Digital SLR?

Olympus E500Amazon.co.uk have the new 8 megapixel Olympus E-500 Digital SLR with 14-45mm kit lens, for a shockingly low price of £389 including VAT and free postage! This is roughly £100 cheaper then any other Digital SLR, the next cheapest on Amazon being the Nikon D50.

Nikon Coolpix 7900 Review

DigitalCameraInfo review the 7 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7900, it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2" screen:

"Announced in February and released in April, the Nikon Coolpix 7900 is still a candidate for the 2005 holiday shopping season. Its small black body makes it one of the more stylish Coolpix models and it packs an impressive 7.1 effective megapixels onto its 1/1.8” CCD. The Coolpix 7900 is the big sister of the Nikon Coolpix 5900 and has many of the same features, but the 7900 boasts a larger pixel count and a few other tweaks in the specifications. This model houses Nikon’s new technology set, which includes face-priority auto focus, in-camera red-eye fix, and D-Lighting compensation. The 7900 has a 3x optical Nikkor zoom lens, a 2-inch LCD screen, and 13.5 MB of internal memory. Retailing for $399.95, the Nikon Coolpix 7900 can currently be found online for about fifty bucks less."

Olympus Mju Digital Stylus 600 Review

Mju 600PhotographyBLOG review the new 6 megapixel Olympus Mju Digital 600 / aka Stylus 600 - it's a compact weatherproof digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens, a lerg 2.5" screen and good low-light performance:

"The Olympus Mju Digital 600 is a 6 megapixel compact digital camera with a weatherproof body that is resistant to water spray. Standout features on the Olympus Mju 800 include a large 2.5 inch LCD screen (although there is no room for an optical viewfinder), 23 different scene modes for the novice user, and a Super Macro mode that focuses as close as 7cm from your subject. Olympus have also incorporated some completely new ideas. BrightCapture Technology automatically brightens the LCD screen in dark conditions to enable better framing and better image results in low light. A new Image Blur Reduction mode reduces the possibility of image blur created by a moving subject or camera movement. The Red-Eye Fix editing function removes red-eye effects from photos already saved in the Olympus Mju Digital 600’s memory."

The Olympus Mju Digital 600 is available for £179 from Amazon.co.uk

Fujifilm FinePix A345 Review

Fuji Finepix A345Imaging-Resource review the budget 4 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix A345, it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 1.7" screen:

"Fujifilm's FinePix digital cameras have always been associated with good image quality and color, with solid performance even at the lower-end of the line. With a 4.1-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens, the FinePix A345 continues that tradition in an attractive new design, although I didn't feel that its color rendition was up to the level I've come to expect from Fujifilm cameras. Like other recent A Series models, it offers four preset scene modes and a long maximum exposure time."

Read my review of the Fujifilm FinePix A345, and 5 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix A350 here.

HP Photosmart R817 Review

HP Photosmart R817DigitalCameraReview review the new 5 megapixel HP Photosmart R817 - it features a Pentax 5x optical zoom lens, and a 2" screen:

"The HP Photosmart R817 will satisfy families looking for an easy-to-use point and shoot digital camera. With each iteration of HP's camera line the specifications improve and the user interface simplifies. This digital camera sports a 5 megapixel CCD, a 5x optical Pentax zoom lens, a large 2" LCD. The only downside is the usual (unfortunately) softness and noise present in images when zoomed. For the 4x6 printing crowd, the R817 will fit in a pocket of purse, zoom in on details, and never confuse the least competent photo taker."

Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 Review

Sony Cybershot N1A-Digital-Eye review the new ultra-compact 8 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 3" screen:

"Sony's Cybershot DSC-N1 is a new compact 8-megapixel model, with a large 3-inch touch-screen LCD. This model also features a new album function that automatically stores up to 500 of your images and uses them to create dynamic slide shows with selectable music, dissolves and wipes right on the large, bright 3-inch screen."

Canon Powershot A620 Review

Canon Powershot A620DCResource have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A620 - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 7 megapixel sensor, and a 2" swivel screen:

"The A620 is actually larger than its predecessor, the A95. In fact, it's larger and heavier than everything in this class. I don't mind, though, it makes the camera feel more solid, more "upscale", if you will. The A620 is indeed too big to fit in a typical pocket, but it's still easy enough to carry around in a purse or bag."

Canon IXUS Wireless Announced

Canon Ixus WirelessCanon have announced the new Canon IXUS Wireless / Canon Powershot SD430 Wireless - it features a 5 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2" screen, and built in Wi-Fi Wireless support:

Olympus FE-110 and FE-100 Review

Olympus FE-110Steves-Digicams review the new 4 megapixel Olympus FE-100*, and 5 megapixel Olympus FE-110**, they both feature a 2.8x optical zoom lens, and a 1.5" screen:

"The Olympus FE-100 and FE-110 are 4.0-, and 5.0-megapixel models that pack more than just high resolution into compact and light bodies – they take the work out of digital photography so you can focus on having fun. The cameras feature a built-in Help Guide so you don't have to consult a manual; easy printing directly to a printer; an uncomplicated “One Touch” design with separate buttons for shooting, playing back and erasing digital images; several scene modes to get the right effect in any setting, and more."

* The Olympus FE-100 is currently being sold as the Olympus X710 in Dixons. ** The Olympus FE-110 is currently being sold as the Olympus X705 on Amazon.co.uk.

Olympus SP-350 Review at Megapixel.net

Olympus SP-350Megapixel.net review the new 8 megapixel Olympus SP-350, it has a 2.5" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens and full manual controls:

"The SP camera series is new for Olympus. So far 3 models exist: the SP-310, a 7.1 megapixel model; the SP-350, an 8-megapixel 3X zoom and the subject of this review; and the SP-500 UZ, a 6-megapixel 10X zoom camera, which will be reviewed in the coming weeks."

Ricoh Caplio R3 Review

Ricoh Caplio R3TrustedReviews review the new Ricoh Caplio R3, a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with an impressive 7x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation and a large 2.5" screen:

"Digital cameras have got so sophisticated in the past couple of years that it is getting increasingly difficult for a new model to make any sort of impact, especially if it comes from a company outside of the “big five”. Take this Ricoh Caplio R3 for example. It’s a pocket-sized compact with a 2.5in LCD monitor, 7.1x optical zoom, image stabilization and a 5 megapixel CCD. In most respects it has an extremely impressive specification for just £219, but it seems that most people have completely ignored it. I’ve not seen any other reviews of it, and only a brief press release to announce its launch."

Olympus E-500 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E-500Wrotniak.net review the new 8 megapixel Olympus E-500 Digital SLR:

"Just ten months after the E-300, Olympus surprised us bringing to the market the E-500, clearly another "economy" (read: sub-$1000) model, aimed at the same market segment. In another surprise, the E-500 is an entirely new construction, mechanically at least, having a very different body layout than its predecessor. At this moment it remains unclear whether the E-300 will be discontinued now, or will both models coexist on the market for some time."

Konica Minolta Dimage X1 Review

Dimage X1Cameras.co.uk review the new ultra compact 8 megapixel Konica Minolta Dimage X1, it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and built in anti-shake:

"The Konica Minolta Dimage X1 is an eight megapixel digital camera. It is an ultra compact model. This is the type of digital camera that will slip into a pocket. The fact that it has as many as eight megapixels makes it a rarity for this type of camera. The standard number of megapixels is five. This camera is easy to use and the Dimage X1 is likely to appeal to anyone looking for a small, stylish digital camera that is easy to carry around."

Read my review of the Konica Minolta Dimage X1 here.

Panasonic Lumix LZ2 Review

Panasonic LZ2Cameras.co.uk review the 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix LZ2, it features a 6x optical zoom lens, a 2" screen, and takes AA batteries:

"The Panasonic DMC LZ2 offers something different. It is an easy to use point and shoot digital camera, but it has a much longer optical zoom lens than is normal for this type of camera. It has a 6x zoom as opposed to the standard 3x. Again unlike some other digital cameras with longer zoom lenses it retains its compact size and shape rather than looking more like a much larger, traditional SLR camera. The DMC LZ2 has five megapixels."

There is a 2 inch LCD screen and optical viewfinder, 9 scene modes for the beginner, and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 also provides a fully Manual exposure mode for the more experienced photographer. DCViews review the ultra compact 5 megapixel Kodak Easyshar V550, it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a large 2.5" screen, DCViews have posted lots of sample photos from the camera:

"As one of the tiniest cameras Kodak have ever produced, the 5-megapixel EasyShare V550 is the top of the line in their Pocket Series cameras. Slimmer than a deck of cards with the jacks and queens taken out, this extremely pocketable camera sports an all-glass Schneider Kreuznach 36-108mm (equiv.) 3x optical zoom lens with aspheric elements, a huge 2.5-inch LCD screen, VGA movie mode and 17 (!) scene modes. All this in a stylish package that is extremely user-friendly and versatile and could prove to be a strong competitor for other compact manufacturers."

Casio Exilim EX-Z750 Review

Casio Exilim EX-Z750Imaging-Resource review the ultra compact Casio Exilim EX-Z750, it features a large 2.5" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens, and MPEG4 video:

Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR Review

Canon EOS 5DLetsGoDigital review the new Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR, it features a 12 megapixel full frame CCD sensor:

"The main sales argument for the Canon EOS 5D is of course the large sensor. It's a full-size image sensor meaning that the dimensions equal the 35mm format. And this means you don't suffer from focal length multiplier anymore, and this is especially ideal for wide angle lovers. Producing a full-size sensor is extremely expensive, more so because there is a lot of remainder of the wafers that the sensors are made from. You'd expect Canon to use the same sensor they've used for the EOS 1Ds Mark II, because the higher the production numbers, the lower the price will be per unit. But Canon decided to put an entirely new 12 Megapixel CMOS into the EOS 5D. It has a pixel pitch of 0.082 mm which equals the pixel pitch of speed monster; Eos-1D Mark II N. It is therefore well possible that the EOS 5D features a larger type than the one used in the EOS-1D Mark II N. Some image characteristics seem to prove this thought."

Konica Minolta Dynax Maxxum 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DAnother day, another Dynax 5D Review :) PhotographyBLOG have reviewed the new Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Digital SLR, also known as the Maxxum 5D - the 5D features a 6 megapixel anti-shake CCD sensor, and a large 2.5" screen:

"The Konica Minolta Dynax 5D is a new entry-level 6 megapixel digital SLR that is currently one of the most compact DSLRs currently available. Highlights of the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D include a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, unique CCD-shift anti-shake mechanism that enables you to take sharp photos at slower shutter speeds than normal and a 9 point auto-focus system. Interchangeability with all Konica Minolta lenses and a range of different picture modes for beginners and experienced photographers alike complete the specification. Perhaps more importantly, all of this is available for an RRP of £599/799 body only or £649/$899 with the 18-70mm kit lens. This drastically undercuts the older and (slightly) higher-spec Konica Minolta Dynax 5D camera and puts the 5D into direct competition with the likes of the Nikon D50, Pentax *ist DL and Canon Rebel XT/350D."

Pentax Optio 50 Review at Cameras.co.uk

Konica Minolta Dynax Maxxum 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DI've just finished my full review of the new Konica Minolta Dynax / Maxxum 5D - a budget Digital SLR with a 6 megapixel sensor, anti-shake CCD, and a large 2.5" screen:

"Announced on the 15th of July, the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D / Maxxum 5D is Konica Minolta's "budget" digital SLR - it's 22% smaller than the Dynax 7D / Maxxum 7D, and retains the anti-shake CCD sensor enabling image stabilisation for all lenses attached to the camera, this should allow blur free low-light / long zoom photography. The 7D and 5D will take all Dynax / Maxxum AF lenses, past, present and future. The Dynax / Maxxum 5D is available for £500 excluding lens, and £550 including 18-70 kit lens, this makes it excellent value for money as one of the lowest priced DSLR's currently available. The Konica Minolta AF DT 18-70 kit lens is equivelant to 27 – 105mm on a 35mm camera, giving the lens a useful 3.8x optical zoom. The camera is enclosed in a black plastic body. As will all digital SLRs, the camera does not record videos! The camera seems fairly compact for a DSLR."

Olympus Mju Digital 800 / Stylus Review

Olympus Mju Digital 800DPReview.com review the new 8 megapixel Olympus Mju Digital 800, it features a large 2.5" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens, a weatherproof body and high ISO settings providing good low-light performance:

"Olympus unveiled its first 8MP compact, the µ Digital 800 / Stylus 800 Digital, back in May 2005. As well as offering one of the highest pixel counts in its class the Stylus 800 is 'weatherproof' and uses a unique technology, 'Bright Capture', to boost sensitivity immensely (up to ISO 2500 in some modes), ensuring a bright screen image and blur-free non-flash photography in very low light. Otherwise specification is fairly standard for this type of camera. The camera is known as the Stylus 800 Digital in the US, and the µ ('Mju') DIGITAL 800 in Europe and SE Asia, so you can have a camera with a silly name wherever you live in the world."

Read my Olympus Mju Digital 800 review here, or view the Olympus Mju Digital 800 Sample Photo Gallery here. The Olympus Mju Digital 800 is £243 | $344 at Amazon with Free Postage.

Sony Cybershot N1 Preview and Samples

Sony Cybershot N1DCResource have a preview of the new Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 - it's an ultra-compact 8 megapixel digital camera with a large 3" screen, and a 3x optical zoom lens, they have also posted sample photos:

"At first glance the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N1 ($499) looks like another ultra-thin camera. But the N1 is more than just a camera: Sony has designed it to be both a camera and a portable photo viewer. The N1 can display up to 500 of your photos, organized in albums. They can be viewed individually or in slideshows complete with music on the DSC-N1's huge 3-inch LCD display. Each time you take a picture it's automatically added to the album (which is stored in internal memory), so putting photos in the album is totally brainless."

Samsung Pro815Stefan Hundhammer has written a quick review of the new 8 megapixel Samsung Pro815 - it features a 15x optical zoom lens and a large 3.5" screen, he's posted a lot of sample images taken with the camera.

"Samsung promised a high-end prosumer camera with high quality standards, a superb lens, great workmanship, a huge LCD, a very good wide angle and an impressive zoom. That promise they lived up to. I really like all the attributes mentioned above of that camera. I also found it very intuitive to use.

More information and sample photos on Samsung's Website.

Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR Review

Canon EOS 5DDigitalCameraInfo.com review the new 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR:

"Making an entry into the increasingly competitive Digital SLR market, Canon’s new EOS 5D takes its place beside their 1Ds Mark II as one of only two full-frame models currently available. The 5D’s 35.8mm x 23.9mm 12.8 megapixel single-plate CMOS sensor, coupled with the application of Canon’s EF mount, enables full utilization of all Canon EF autofocus lenses with full preservation of their original optical perspectives."

Kodak Easyshare C360 Review

Kodak Easyshare C360TrustedReviews review the new 5 megapixel Kodak Easyshare C360, it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2" screen:

"The first impression of the C360 is one of user-friendly simplicity. In overall design I can only describe it as cute, with a compact, rounded and easy-to-hold shape and large, well-labeled controls. The 2in LCD monitor is bright and easy to read, and with 110,000 pixels it is nice and sharp too. The camera body is made from silver-coloured high-impact plastic, with some metal parts such as the band around the top and left side, and the insert into handgrip."

Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 Review

Dimage Z6DigitalCameraReview review the new 6 megapixel ultra zoom digital camera from Konica Minolta, the Dimage Z6 - it features a 2" screen, a 12x optical zoom lens, plus anti-shake CCD sensor:

"The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 is a 6 megapixel camera that features a 12x optical zoom and Konica Minolta's CCD-shift Anti-Shake system. The camera performs quickly with a fast auto focus system and minimal shutter lag. Manual modes provide a large range of control over images and the stabilized 12x optical zoom. However, I had problems with overexposure in a lot of my shots taken with default settings and shots were a bit too noisy."

Konica Minolta Dynax / Maxxum 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DPhotographic Magazine review the new Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Digital SLR, also known as the Maxxum 5D - the 5D features a 6 megapixel anti-shake CCD sensor, and a large 2.5" screen:

"Konica Minolta’s new Maxxum 5D is an $800 entry-level digital SLR with a bunch of great features, many borrowed from its excellent “big brother” the Maxxum 7D. The 5D is simpler to use than the 7D, and considerably smaller. Yet it packs the same huge 2.5” LCD monitor, body-integral Anti-Shake system, nine-point AF system , 14-segment honeycomb metering (plus center-weighted and spot), Konica Minolta’s Advanced LSI and CxProcess III image-processing technology, a very effective pop-up ADI TTL flash, 3-fps continuous shooting capability, 6.1-megapixel image sensor and more."

You can view my Konica Minolta Dynax / Maxxum 5D Sample Photos here.

Nikon Coolpix S4 Review

Nikon Coolpix S4Megapixel.net review the new Nikon Coolpix S4 - a compact ultra zoom digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens, a 6 megapixel sensor, and a swivel body:

"A camera design that makes use of a split body is not new to Nikon. In fact, one of the cameras that launched the digital revolution in photography was the Coolpix 900, reviewed in these pages when megapixel was barely 2 months old, in December 1998. The Coolpix S4, offering a 6-megapixel resolution and a 10X zoom lens, is only the latest to use the concept. Metal clad and finished in a mix of brushed steel and chrome, the Coolpix S4's body is gently curved in the front and flat in the back, the lens section bulging out to accommodate the 10X zoom."

Konica Minolta Dimage X1 Review

Konica Minolta Dimage X1PhotographyBLOG review the new ultra-compact 8 megapixel Konica Minolta Dimage X1 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a large 2.5" screen, and has built in anti-shake CCD and Optical zoom:

"The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 is a stylish 8 megapixel digital camera with a slimline body that is just 19.5mm deep. Available in silver, black or red, the Konica Minolta X1 features Konica Minolta's Anti-Shake technology, as used on the company's range of digital SLR cameras. This enables you to take sharp photos at slower shutter speeds than usual. The Konica Minolta X1's anti-shake system is different, however, to the other Konica Minolta cameras, in that the lens unit is moved to compensate for camera shake, rather than the CCD sensor. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 also offers a large 2.5 inch LCD screen (at the expense of an optical viewfinder) which is is protected by an acrylic panel to reduce scratching. Finally, there is a a newly designed "flat" 3x optical zoom lens, which means that the lens doesn't protrude when zooming and is therefore truly 19.5mm deep."

Read my review of the Konica Minolta Dimage X1 here, or view the Konica Minolta Dimage X1 Sample Photo gallery here. More information can be found on the Konica Minolta website.

Fujifilm FinePix F10 Review

Fuji F10FinePixF10.com review the Fujifilm FinePix F10, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, a large 2.5" screen, and high ISO settings to enable excellent low-light performance:

"Speed of Use - To sum up - wow this camera is fast and responsive! When you turn the F10 on, you'd better make sure that your fingers are not near the lens as it comes flying out of its housing amazingly quickly. Before you know it, the camera is ready to shoot. Of course this is one of the reasons that I bought the camera - I wanted to take opportunistic photos where shutter delays and slow responses mean missed shots. This is not the case with the F10 with its rapid focussing and fast writing to the xD card."

Read our review of the Fuji FinePix F10 here. You can view the Fuji FinePix F10 Sample Photo Gallery here. The F10 is only £205 (previously £215) | $298 at Amazon with Free Shipping!

Fuji FinePix S9500 / S9000 Review

Fuji S9500LetsGoDigital review the new 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S9500 / S9000 - it features a wide angle 10.7x optical zoom lens, a swivel 1.8" screen and high ISO upto ISO1600:

"At the time Fujifilm proved with the FinePix F10 that it was well possible to create noise-free images above ISO 400 with compact cameras, and that it was only a matter of time until a top model with the same technique would be introduced. The Fuji FinePix S9000 digital camera has become this top model. A very special digital camera, not just because of the Super CCD HR with Real Photo Technology, but also because of the resolution of no less than 9 Megapixels and a large optical zoom range running from 28-300mm (equivalent of a 35mm camera)."

Fuji's website has more information, including sample photos, and the chance to win a weekend in Amsterdam (to enter view the camera demonstration - open to UK residents only).

Choosing between bridge and DSLR

I Like Cameras have an interesting article on "Choosing between bridge and DSLR" - it aims to help you decide between a Digital SLR, or buying a high-end "prosumer" digital camera such as the Fuji FinePix S9500/S9000 / Canon Pro1 etc:

"I was troubled but returned home and dug deeper into the Fujifilm FinePix S9000 Zoom. I found out why entry-level DSLRs have a viable future and why superzooms, or bridge, cameras like the Fujifilm FinePix S9000 Zoom, Sony Cyber Shot DSC-R1 and Panasonic DMC-FZ30 are not a real threat though they are still good cameras." Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DPocket-Lint review the new Konica Minolta Dynax 5D / Maxxum 5D - it features a 6 megapixel CCD sensor with anti-shake technology, this means that all lenses attached to the camera benefit from anti-shake. The camera has a 2.5" screen:

"Enter the Konica Minolta Dynax 5D, technically a slimmed down version of it’s larger brother, the Dynax 7D, it features almost all of that model's specification and panache, but with a slightly modified body; it’s plastic, with simplified controls. This combines to make it one of the better-specified budget D-SLRs on the market."

Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 First Look Review

Sony Cybershot N1Steve's Digicams have posted a First Look Review / Preview of the new 8 megapixel Sony Cybershot N1 - it's an ultra-compact digital camera with a huge 3" screen, and a 3x optical zoom lens, the camera should be shipping on or before November 18th:

"The Cyber-shot DSC-N1 is about the same size as a deck of playing cards and incorporates a high-performance, 8-megapixel digital camera, with a large, 3-inch, touch-screen LCD. The N1's album function automatically stores up to 500 of your favorite images in VGA resolution, and uses them to create dynamic slide shows with music and transition effects – in the camera."

Fujifilm FinePix S9500 / S9000 Review

Fuji S9500DCResource have reviewed the new 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S9500 / S9000 - it features a 10.7x optical zoom lens, a swivel LCD screen, a built in "Anti-Shake" mode, plus ISO settings from 80 to 1600:

"The Fuji FinePix S9000 ($699) is a full-featured, high resolution ultra zoom 9 Megapixel camera. The S9000 (also known as the S9500) uses Fuji's 5th generation SuperCCD sensor, with the most noticeable change since the previous generation sensor being the lack of an interpolated mode. The sensor is nine Megapixel and so are the resulting images. (For the technically included, the sensor still does interpolate to a higher resolution before downsizing to your selected size.)"

Fuji's website has more information, including sample photos, and the chance to win a weekend in Amsterdam (to enter view the camera demonstration - open to UK residents only).

Sony Cybershot DSC-T5 Review

Sony Cybershot T5DigitalCameraInfo.com review the ultra compact 5 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-T5 - it features a large 2.5" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens, and an ultra-compact metal body:

"At the beginning of the year, Sony announced that it would release its new models with bigger LCD screens, more resolution, and at least some internal memory. The company’s promises are materialized in the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T5, which offers all of those features in a sleek and skinny camera body. The T5 follows other Sony T-series digital cameras with its 0.8-inch thick body size and non-extending Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens. The Sony T5 has 5.1 megapixels on a 1/2.5-inch Super HAD CCD and offers six image sizes, including a 16:9-formatted aspect ratio to fit the wide screens of high-definition televisions. This Cyber-shot has a nicely sized 2.5-inch LCD screen with 230,000 pixels, which is roughly twice the resolution of its competition. 32 MB of internal memory is included, completing Sony’s triple-point promise."

Canon EOS 20D DSLR vs Panasonic FZ30

Panasonic Lumix FZ30FiringSquad review the new 8 megapixel Panasonic Lumix FZ30 and the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR:

"Today we're going to review two cameras. Both are 8 megapixels. Both allow you to reach the "super telephoto" range of at least 400mm in 35mm equivalent measurement. Both represent fourth generation products within their company line-up. The catch is that one is a $600 all-in-one point-and-shoot camera and the other is an over $5400 digital SLR and lens/accessory package. It would seem to be an unfair fight, but we've all been told that it's the photographer that's responsible for good pictures, not the camera. How true is that statement? What does that extra cash buy you? What shots will be missed with the lower-end camera? What shots are missed with the digital SLR? This is an article for anyone interested in digital photography. It doesn't matter if you think you know the outcome, or even if your budget doesn't come close to this price range."(via PhotographyBLOG)

The Panasonic Lumix FZ30 is available for £529 from Amazon.co.uk

Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 Review

Sony Cybershot P200DPReview review the compact 7 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 - it features a 2" screen, and a 3x optical zoom lens:

"Announced in January 2005, The DSC-P200 is the direct replacement for the DSC-P150, the first ultra-compact 7 megapixel compact. The changes are minimal (a slight redesign, a new, larger screen, an additional metering mode and the addition of custom white balance) - though pricing is inevitably a lot keener after a year in this fast-moving market. As with the P-150 before it, the P-200 is essentially a 'point and shoot' camera with a Carl Zeiss 3x zoom lens, 7.2 megapixel sensor and a smattering of photographic controls."

The Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 is only £201 at Amazon.co.uk, there are currently 23 user reviews at Amazon.co.uk.

Pentax Optio WP Review

Imaging-Resource review the waterproof Pentax Optio WP - a compact 5 megapixel camera, with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2" screen:

"The new Pentax Optio WP has a compact, stylish body that's waterproof to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The camera features a high-resolution, 5.0-megapixel CCD and 3x Pentax lens, for capturing a lot of fine detail with sharp definition. Control layout and ergonomics are similar to previous Optio models, but with refinements to reduce camera size and complexity. The Pentax WP measures 4.0 x 2.0 x 0.9 inches (102 x 51 x 22 millimeters), and weighs just 4.8 ounces (135 grams) with the battery and memory card. The all-plastic case no doubt contributes to the camera's light weight, but the Optio WP is still sturdy and essentially free of creak or flex in its body panels."

Canon Digital IXUS 750 / SD550 Review

DPReview review the new 7 megapixel ultra-compact Canon Digital IXUS 750 / Powershot SD550, it features a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5" screen. It's the new version of the Digital IXUS 700 / SD500 (£269). The Digital IXUS 750 / SD550 is currently £290 at Amazon.co.uk.

Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DTrustedReviews review the new Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Digital SLR, also known as the Maxxum 5D - the 5D features a 6 megapixel anti-shake CCD sensor, and a large 2.5" screen:

"The Holy Grail for which all of the major camera manufacturers are questing is the affordable consumer digital SLR. They know that once a customer buys an SLR and a couple of lenses, they will most likely stay with the same brand for life, buying more lenses and accessories for their system, and occasionally upgrading the camera body. Manufacturers make a lot more profit from lenses than from either SLR camera bodies or zoom compacts, so market domination awaits for the company that can introduce the first real consumer SLR. Canon was the first to break the £1000 barrier with the highly successful EOS 300D, with Nikon, Pentax and Olympus quick to follow suit. The next big barrier is £500, and many models are now approaching this breakthrough price point."

Ricoh Caplio GX8 Review

Ricoh Caplio GX8PhotographyBLOG have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Ricoh Caplio GX8 - it features a wide-angle 3x optical zoom lens, a 1.8" screen and full manual controls:

"On paper at least the Ricoh Caplio GX8 looks like a very tempting prospect. The Ricoh GX8 is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a wide-angle 28-85mm lens, full creative control with Aperture Priority and Manual Exposure modes, minimal shutter lag and quick power-on, and an amazing macro mode that lets you get as close as 1cm from your subject. Other desirable features on the Ricoh Caplio GX8 include manual focus, a movable AF point, hotshoe for an external flashgun, bracketing of both white balance and exposure, and a full range of optional accessories. The good news doesn't stop there - all of this is available for less than £300."

Read my review of the Ricoh Caplio GX8 here.

Konica Minolta Dimage X60 Review

Dimage X60Cameras.co.uk review the ultra-compact Konica Minolta Dimage X60 - it's a 5 megapixel digital camera, with a 3x optical zoom lens, and a large 2.5" screen:

"The Konica Minolta Dimage X60 is an ultra compact digital camera. It has five megapixels and a three times optical zoom lens. In terms of features it is a fairly typical of this type of camera. The emphasis is on ease of use rather than including a host of controls and features likely to appeal to an experienced photographer. Combined with its pocket size the Dimage X60 is likely to appeal to anyone who is looking for a straightforward digital camera that is small enough to take with them anywhere they go. It is also one of the cheapest ultra compact cameras produced by the major brands."

Read our review of the Konica Minolta Dimage X60 here.

Pentax Optio S55 Review

Optio S55Cameras.co.uk review the 5 megapixel Pentax Optio S55 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and a metal body - it's probably one of the smallest cameras available that takes AA batteries:

"The Pentax Optio S55 is a stylish five megapixel digital camera. It has a three times optical zoom lens. With a metal body it has a better build quality than many point and shoot digital cameras. The Optio S55 has all the standard features you would expect to find on a digital camera in this price bracket, but remains easy to use."

Kodak Easyshare One Review

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare One - Kodak's new wifi enabled digital camera, it features a 4 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 3" screen:

"The camera has 4 megapixels, a 3x Schneider-Kreuznach 3x optical zoom lens, and a large 3-inch touch screen LCD with 230,000 pixels. The large screen, coupled with 256 MB of internal memory, make the one a viable hybrid model – fusing digital imager with digital photo album. The built-in album can store up to 1,500 photos in folders or a calendar-type setup. However, clearly the Kodak EasyShare-one’s most impressive innovation is its wireless capabilities of course. The camera can sync with wireless personal computers, laptops, and printers – including the optional Kodak EasyShare Printer Dock Series 3. The vision is that users can take pictures in their living room and send them to their home printers, so prints can be obtained within seconds or minutes of the moment."

Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 Review

Megapixel.net have reviewed the ultra-slim Sony Cybershot T7 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"The ultra-compact Sony DSC-T7 offers a 5.1 megapixel resolution, a completely internal 3X Carl Zeiss zoom and a large 2.5-inch monitor. While the DSC-T7 has the same technical characteristics as the DSC-T5, with this model Sony engineers have miniaturized the camera even more."

Konica Minolta Dynax 5D Review

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DLetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Konica Minolta Dynax 5D / Maxxum 5D Digital SLR, with anti-shake CCD:

"The Konica Minolta boasts a few important features. Firstly the large 2.5-inch monitor that we find more and more on digital cameras of other brands too. And even more important; the Anti-Shake system. This offers the 5D reflex camera a built-in image stabilisation, independent from the lens used on the camera. Thanks to the image stabilisation, shutter speeds with 2 to 3 more steps are enabled without the chance of blur caused by jitter of the photographer's hand. This doesn't only come in handy for sports photographers but also in common photography. A strong trump!"

Panasonic DMC-FZ30 Reviewed

megapixel.net have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ30, which is an 8 megapixel digital camera, with features to suit both 'point and shoot' photography and those that like more manual control, all in a package designed to make shooting simpler.

the reviewers say: "the DMC-FZ30 offers an excellent ergonomic design that is rooted in the design of single lens reflex (SLR) cameras. Its comparatively large size — approximately the same as a Digital Rebel XT or a Pentax *ist DS — gives it an excellent in-hand feel and good balance. Moreover, with a powerful 12X zoom and an 8 megapixel resolution, the DMC-FZ30 is almost as versatile as some current digital SLR and can be seriously considered as an alternative."

Pentax Optio S55 review

TrustedReviews.com have reviewed the Pentax Optio S55, a tiny Pentax 5-megapixel compact digital camera, with 3x zoom.

they conclude "As a budget compact, the Optio S55 has a lot going for it, but unfortunately it is let down by image noise problems and a very confusing list of modes and options. It is rugged and well made though, so you could do worse for your winter holidays."

So apart from the buttons being a bit small, it appears to be a good value camera. Read their review for more details

Canon PowerShot SD30 Digital ELPH Reviewed

dcresource.com have reviewed the Canon PowerShot SD30 Digital ELPH, an ultra-compact 5 megapixel digital camera

Jeff Keller says "If you want a camera that you can carry around for everyday outdoor shots, then I can recommend the PowerShot SD30. If you're looking for something small that performs when you need to use the flash, you'll likely be disappointed with the SD30. While it's hard to avoid the redeye problem on any camera in this class, you can find cameras with stronger flashes out there."

Fuji S9000 / S9500 Reviews

I had been looking for a review of this technically advanced 'not quite professional' digital SLR-style camera, and managed to find a good one at DigitalCameraInfo.com. I recommend you read this article carefully if you are seriously considering buying the camera.

The article is entertaining in places and I would like to quote lots of sections but I'll leave you to read it to discover those highlights, but just to give you a taste:

"To really take advantage of all the S9000 has to offer, users will need four hands, two brains, and about eight times more patience than is regularly needed with a digital camera. Holding the camera is easy – if you’re accustomed to shooting with an SLR. Figuring out the buttons and jog dials and all their hidden functions may require at least a two-year degree. DSLRs are not known for their ease of use and the Fujifilm S9000 is probably more difficult to use than most DSLRs."

Of course if you just want to look at the camera's capabilities, there are a collection of photos from DCResource.com, just here.

"The flash actually pops up quite violently; it could probably sever a finger if it got in the way."

DigiCam Reviews - Olympus Mju Digital 800

Olympus Mju Digital 800 - Buy now from Amazon.co.ukThe Olympus Mju Digital 800 (8 megapixel compact digital camera with 3x optical zoom) has been reviewed by DigitalCameraInfo, here. And for anyone who missed it, our review is still available here.

quote: "Shutter speeds can be manually adjusted in Shutter Priority mode by using the right and left arrows on the navigation dial. A slider displaying shutter speed and the corresponding aperture value is displayed over the live view as selections are made. The slider will display shutter speeds that will result in a proper exposure in green, while those that will either under or overexpose an image will be displayed in red. This intuitive graphic is one of the most valuable elements of the camera, since it helps clearly outline the relationship between shutter speed and aperture values and illustrates how the correlation impacts exposure."
