Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 Review

Sony R1Megapixel.net have published their full review of the new 10 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens and a 2" swivel screen:

"The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 is a ground-breaking bridge camera, using a 10.3 megapixel CMOS sensor developed by Sony. The camera is equipped with a 5X optical zoom from Carl Zeiss that has a focal length equivalent to a 24 to140 mm, a 2-inch hinged monitor, and an electronic viewfinder (EVF)."

Kodak Easyshare P-850 Review

Kodak P850DPReview have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare P850 - a 5 megapixel ultra zoom digital camera with a 12x optical zoom lens, with image stabilisation, and a 2.5" screen:

"In August 2005 Kodak announced a new class of 'advanced digital cameras' with the introduction of the P series, which it hopes will provide an alternative to entry-level DSLRs. The EasyShare P850, which has an image-stabilized 12x zoom Schneider-Kreuznach lens (36-432mm 35mm equiv), is a direct competitor to the likes of Canon's S2 IS, Sony's H1 and Panasonic's FZ20. As well as the new image stabilizing feature the P850 boasts RAW file capture and a flash hot shoe, plus a real wealth of photographic controls."

Samsung Pro815 Review

Samsung 815ePhotoZine have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Samsung Pro815 - it features a massive 15x optical zoom lens equivelant to 28 - 420mm, and a huge 3.5" screen:

"The Samsung Pro815 sports some very impressive specifications and some unique design features, such as the top mounted LCD screen, which are truly useful. The camera does have limitations though, the focusing at the long end of the zoom is slow and image noise at high ISO settings is fairly intrusive. On the other hand it's capable of producing very high quality, detailed images."

Nikon Coolpix L1 Review

Nikon Coolpix L1Imaging-Resource have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix L1 - a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen:

"Nikon's Coolpix line of consumer digicams has always been well-received, appreciated for their image quality and ease of use. The Nikon Coolpix L1 continues that trend with a 6.2-megapixel CCD and firmware goodies like Face Priority AF, D-Lighting and BSS while simplifying the user interface. The Coolpix L1 is a good choice for anyone who wants an easy to use camera that delivers good-looking pictures with pleasing color and plenty of resolution. For those willing to delve just slightly deeper than "just pushing the button," its extensive scene modes and unique framing-assist options greatly extend the camera's capabilities, making it easy to bring back good-looking shots of what might otherwise be difficult subjects."

The R1 features a Carl Zeiss T* 5x wide angle zoom that is matched to the imager and covers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24mm to 120mm and has both a manual zoom and focus ring on the lens barrel. The R1 has both a high resolution color viewfinder and a top-mounted 2.0" color LCD that tilts and swivels to nearly any angle."

Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 Review

Sony R1Popular Photography have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens and a 2" swivel screen:

"The best advice we've ever given our readers? Take a camera for a test spin before buying, even if that means dry-firing it at the counter. If you're ready to move up from a compact digital camera and pick up Sony's new 10.3MP Cyber-shot DSC-R1 ($1,000 street), there's a good chance you'll buy it and return to the store only for more memory cards. But if you're looking to upgrade from your trusty old 35mm SLR system, or even a two-year old 6MP DSLR, the Sony DSC-R1 might leave you cold."

Sony Cybershot DSC-T5 Review

Sony T5Popular Photography have reviewed the ultra-compact Sony Cybershot T5 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"Thin is in. So are big LCDs. Last year, Sony made a splash setting the big-LCD trend with the sleek and snappy DSC-T1. Without an optical viewfinder, this style of camera—small enough to fit into a sports jacket or purse and chic enough to dispel the snapshooting geek image—has become a must-have for those whose idea of a party goes beyond blowing out the candles."

Sony Cybershot shipments to China Halted

Sony H1Imaging-Resource have news that Sony have halted shipment of the Sony Cybershot H1, L1, P200, W7, W5, S90 in China due to Quality Issues:

"Based on a quality and functions evaluation of 34 digital camera models (an evaluation requested by the Industry and Commerce Bureau of China's Zhejiang Province) Zhejiang Province recently decided to stop stores from selling models which did not pass the evaluation. In total, 13 models of six different digital camera manufacturers did not pass the evaluation and among these models, six Sony Cybershot models were named (DSC-H1, L1, P200, W7, W5, S90). All of the Cybershot models named are manufactured in China and the evaluation claims that these models did not pass on the basis of four quality issues including 'automatic exposure correction' and 'white balance.'"

Carl Ziess have posted an interesting teaser on thier website - with more information due to be posted on the 28th of December. Some websites are suggesting Carl Ziess are due to release Nikon F mount lenses.

Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 Review

Dimage Z6TrustedReviews review the new 6 megapixel Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 - it features a 12x optical zoom lens, 2" screen, and anti-shake CCD sensor:

"The latest model in the series is this, the Z6. With a 6 megapixel CCD and 12x optical zoom lens with anti-shake technology, it is the top in the current range of five models. It has a list price of £299.99, but if you shop around online you can find it for £50 less."

Fujifilm FinePix E900 User Review

Fuji E900Walter Jeffries has published an in-depth review of the new 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix E900 - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 2" screen, and full manual controls:

"I am looking at this camera from the point of view of wanting full manual control over every aspect of my photos. The E900 gives me this. I had feared I would have to get a big camera to get the full manual this time around. Not everybody wants all that control. Fortunately the E900 has automatic settings for someone who just points, shoots and leaves."

Casio Exilim EX-Z500 Review

Casio Z500Pocket-Lint have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Z500 - an ultra compact digital camera with a 2.7" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"In our tests the camera coped well with the different shots we tested it on. Especially the berries and the green lit party pictures (the count down is for the Xbox360 launch if you're interested). Likewise the London night scene with its varying light sources, moving vehicles and black sky shows the camera coped well in tough situations. We especially like the camera's colour reproduction."

Konica Minolta Dynax Maxxum 7D Review

DigiCamera review the 6 megapixel Konica Minolta Dynax / Maxxum 7D Digital SLR:

"As I said at the beginning of this report, I’ve gotten somewhat bored after years of testing new cameras, but the Konica/Minolta Maxxum 7D snapped me out of my ennui. I had a ball working with this camera, and the great images it made for me. It may have taken a while for Konica/Minolta to make their first digital Maxxum, but it was certainly worth the wait. This camera represents a rethinking of what a digital SLR should be in many ways. I think it is the most exciting new SLR camera in quite a few years."

Compact Digital Cameras Group Test

Canon A620CameraLabs have published their Compact Digital Camera Group Test, which includes reviews of the Sony Cybershot DSC-N1, the Fujifilm FinePix F11, the Canon Powershot A620, and the Pentax Optio S6:

"So over the following pages we've taken four of the most popular mid-range models and put them through their paces in our first compact camera group test. We've tested Canon's chunky but powerful PowerShot A620, Fujifilm's highly sensitive FinePix F11, the tiny Pentax Optio S6 and the futuristic touch-screen action of Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-N1."

Olympus FE-110 / X705 Review

Olympus FE-11Photoxels have reviewed the new Olympus FE-110 (aka X705), it features a 5 megapixel sensor, a 2.8x optical zoom lens and a 1.6" screen - it's currently available for only £109 at Amazon.co.uk:

"The Olympus FE-110 is a compact and easy-to-use digital camera targeted to the novice snapshooter. It features an Olympus lens (38 – 106mm, 35mm equivalent), 5MP resolution and 2.8x optical zoom."

Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 Review

Sony N1PCMag have reviewed the new ultra compact 8 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 - it features a large 3" screen and a 3x optical zoom lens:

"With its signature slick, stylish design and a large, 3-inch touch screen, Sony's latest Cyber-shot DSC-N1 looks very cool, but it has a lot more than good looks going for it. This 8.1-megapixel ultracompact doesn't unseat the current ultracompact Editors' Choice, the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital Elph, but it has a lot of great features that make it an appealing choice for style- and performance-conscious shutterbugs."

Canon Powershot A620 Review

Canon A620DigitalCameraReview review the new Canon Powershot A620 - a 7 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens, and a 2" swivel screen:

"The Canon Powershot A620 is one of the successors to the Canon A95. The A620, at 7.1 megapixels, and the A610 (the 5 megapixel little brother), make excellent upgrades to the very popular A95. Besides the megapixel upgrade, the A620 brings a better 4x optical zoom, the new DIGIC II processor, and a larger 2 inch LCD. After the success of the A95, it will be interesting to see if this camera becomes as popular."

Pentax Optio WPi Review

DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the new Pentax Optio WPi, a 6 megapixel version of the waterproof Optio WP, it features a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2" screen:

"Overall the WPi is a very good point-and-shoot camera that will appeal to everyone from the adventurous type to families that like to take pictures not just by but in the pool while on vacation. The ease of use and generous 6.0MP resolution all at a price point of about $300 make this a very attractive digital camera option."

Nikon Coolpix P2 Review

Nikon P2DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the new 5 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P2 - it features a 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and built in wi-fi:

"First megapixels increased. Then cameras began to shrink. Next LCDs ballooned in size while batteries eked out just a few more shots. Each new generation of camera saw one additional scene mode or on-camera image enhancement feature. To be blunt it hasn't been so interesting. What is needed is a feature that really raises eyebrows and the Nikon Coolpix P2 has it: Wi-Fi access for picture transfers. Nikon certainly wasn't the first, but they were likely a close second or third. Adding wireless connectivity just makes sense and should make photography easier. But does it? Read on."

Olympus SP-310 Review at Steves Digicams

Steves-Digicams have reviewed the new Olympus SP-310, it features a 7 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5" screen:

"For 2005 Olympus has announced a new SP-series of digital cameras, the 7.0-megapixel SP-310 and the 8.0-megapixel SP-350 introduce specialized features that enable photographers of all skill levels to express their creative vision. Both cameras feature a new 3x optical zoom lens designed specifically for digital cameras that provides the equivalent of 38 to 114mm focal length with a Super Macro Mode that captures details from as close as 2 cm. They also offer the option of either manual settings for creative control or 30 selectable shooting modes, along with optional add-on accessory lenses, an optional underwater housing, and a large, easy-to-view 2.5-inch premium size LCD."

Olympus SP-350 Review at Steves Digicams

Olympus SP-350Steves-Digicams have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Olympus SP-350 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, manual controls and VGA movie mode:

"For 2005 Olympus has announced a new SP-series of digital cameras, the 7.0-megapixel SP-310 and the 8.0-megapixel SP-350 introduce specialized features that enable photographers of all skill levels to express their creative vision. The SP-350 has a hot shoe for external flashes, providing additional versatility when difficult lighting is an issue."

Canon Powershot A610 Review

Canon A610Imaging-Resource have reviewed the new 5 megapixel Canon Powershot A610, it features a 4x optical zoom lens, and a 2" swivel screen:

"The A610 and its 7.1-megapixel twin the A620 (around $400) are most closely related to Canon's A520, which was released in February 2005. They have a similar shape and size, including a solid right-hand grip, plus a 4x optical zoom that covers the 35mm equivalent of 35mm to 140mm, the same shutter speed range, most of the same exposure controls."

Nikon Coolpix S4 Review

Nikon S4DigitalCameraInfo review the new Nikon Coolpix S4 - it features a swivel 10x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and a 6 megapixel sensor:

"Nikon returned to the pivoting-lens design of its Coolpix 900 series for their latest ultra zoom camera, the 6 megapixel Coolpix S4. Built around a 6.3 to 63mm lens (equivalent to a 38-380mm zoom on a 35mm camera) and a 1/2.5-inch imaging chip, the 4.4 x 2.7 x 1.4-inch S4 offers shooting versatility in a portable package. While many ultra zoom cameras strive to imitate the styling of DSLRs, the design of 10x optical zoom Nikon Coolpix S4 suggests that it is really more of a compact point-and-shoot at heart. Available online for about $320, the price of the S4 places it in the company of higher-end point-and-shoots."

Kodak Easyshare P-850 Review

Kodak P850Imaging-Resource have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare P850 - a 5 megapixel ultra zoom digital camera with a 12x optical zoom lens, with image stabilisation, and a 2.5" screen:

"Similar in style to a traditional 35mm camera, though much more compact, the P850 offers advanced photography control for those who want it, as well as a healthy selection of automatic and preset shooting modes for novices. Featuring a 5.0-megapixel CCD, a whopping 12x optical zoom lens, and the full gamut of exposure modes, the P850 should appeal to a wide audience. Though the camera is slightly more advanced than many of its EasyShare cousins, the P850 maintains a user-friendly interface that's uncomplicated and straightforward. Novices will enjoy the large selection of preset scene modes, while more experienced shooters will appreciate the manual control options."

Olympus SP-350 Review at DCResource

Olympus SP-350DCResource have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Olympus SP-350 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, manual controls and VGA movie mode:

"I have mixed feelings about the Olympus SP-350. While I like the design, features, and photo quality, the camera always felt sluggish when I was using it. While I'm not asking for D-SLRs speeds, it would've been nice if the camera was at least as responsive as other cameras in its class. The SP-350 gets my recommendation, but with the footnote "not the best camera if you want to take or view pictures quickly"."

Canon Powershot SD450 / IXUS 55 Review

Ixus 55Photobird have reviewed the new Canon Digital IXUS 55 / Canon Powershot SD450 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"If you're looking for a tiny digital camera to take along with you wherever you go, then the Canon PowerShot SD450 is an excellent choice. It has 5 megapixels, 3x zoom, and a large 2.5" LCD screen - a group of features that hits the "sweet spot" of today's tiny digital cameras. The Canon PowerShot SD450 is very well built, easy-to-use, and takes excellent photos. The only thing I really missed was a protective covering for the camera, which you can easily find on your own. At about $300, the Canon PowerShot SD450 is an excellent investment that should provide you with thousands upon thousands of precious memories."

Fujifilm FinePix S5600 S5200 Review

Fuji S5600Pocket-Lint review the new Fujifilm FinePix S5600 S5200 - a 5 megapixel digital camera with an impressive 10x optical zoom lens:

"The S5600 easily lives up to the standards set by its forbears with sharp colourful images. A vivid ‘Chrome’ setting allows for extra saturation of shots (there’s a black and white mode too and I’ve included a shot in that mode in this test for you too), ideal for vivid greens and reds. Noise is well controlled as we’ve discussed but highlights become lost quickly if there’s a bright background in a scene for example. All almost identical problems I found with the 5500. Over processing for noise is an issue on this model however, but shooting RAW allows you to control this with even more precision."

Fujifilm FinePix S9500 S9000 Review

Fuji S9500Imaging-Resource review the 9 megapixel Fujifilm Finepix S9000 / S9500 - it features a 10.7x optical zoom lens:

"Replacing the FinePix S7000 at the company's high end, the Fuji S9000's resolution has been upped to a class-leading nine megapixels, and an extremely powerful 10.7x optical zoom lens combines to offer what Fujifilm obviously feels can compete head-on with competitors' digital SLR offerings. ISO sensitivity has been improved to allow ISO 1600 at full resolution, and an articulated LCD display caches in on the main advantage of non-SLR cameras - a live preview image that lets you see what you'll get before you press the shutter button. With a refined user interface and the same great exposure features, autofocus options, and performance as the S7000, the Fuji S9000 could be a hit for the company."

Pentax *ist DL Digital SLR Review

Pentax *ist DLPocket-Lint have reviewed the 6 megapixel Pentax *ist DL - Pentax's budget Digital SLR:

"So, if you’re looking to upgrade from a compact or a first-time digital camera this is a good option. You will produce good images once you’ve set the camera up and you will have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and external flashguns. If you’re looking for a good mid-range digital SLR then maybe you should think about something from the big two – Nikon and Canon - as their models are dropping in price and have better pedigrees, and in my mind are easier to handle despite their comparatively bigger sizes."

Olympus SP-500 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP500DesignTechnica have reviewed the Olympus SP-500 Ultra Zoom, it features a 10x optical zoom lens, a 6 megapixel sensor, and a 2.5" screen:

"Where Olympus really shines is with its Ultra Zoom digicams like the new 6-megapixel SP-500UZ, the company’s latest 10x optical zoom digicam (the ancient 2MP C-700 Ultra Zoom was one of the first in the industry). This equals 38-380mm in 35mm terms, a very nice range. At $379 it’s more expensive than the $299 10x Kodak Z740 with slightly less resolution (5MP). It’s also a bit cheaper than its other ultra zoom competitors, the $499 5MP Sony DSC-H1 and Canon PowerShot S2 IS with 12x optical zooms and image stabilization."

Kodak Easyshare P880 Review

Kodak P880Megapixel.net have published their review of the new Kodak Easyshare P880, an 8 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 5.8x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"The EasyShare P880 is currently at the top of the pyramid for Kodak's consumer camera series. Featuring an 8-megapixel resolution, a super wide — 24 to 140 mm — 5.8 X manual zoom manufactured by Schneider-Kreuznach; a 2.5-inch, 115,000 pixel LCD monitor; and a 237,000 pixel electronic viewfinder, the P880 is aimed at users looking for more flexibility than is available with a point and shoot, short of moving to a dSLR."

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Review

Digital Photography Blog have posted a first impressions review of the new Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 USM Lens with the Canon EOS 20D. They have posted several impressive sample photos.

Ricoh Caplio R3 Review

Ricoh Caplio R3PhotographyBLOG have reviewed the new Ricoh Caplio R3, a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with a 7.1x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and built in image stabilisation:

"Ricoh can always be relied upon to offer something a little different. The Ricoh Caplio R3 is a very compact 5 megapixel digital camera with a massive 7x optical zoom lens that is equivalent to 28-200mm. Most cameras of this size offer a 3x or at best a 4x optical zoom. Ricoh have gone for broke by cramming a 7x zoom lens into a body that is only 26mm thick, thanks to what the Japanese company calls a "Double Retracting LENS System". To help compensate for the effects of handshake, Ricoh have included a Vibration Correction system that should ensure sharper photos at slower shutter speeds than normal. Other highlights of the Ricoh Caplio R3 include a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, ISO range of 64-800, 1cm macro mode and the usual fast responsiveness that you always get with a Ricoh camera."

Casio Exilim EX-Z500 Review

Casio Z500TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Z500 - an ultra compact digital camera with a 2.7" screen, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"The Z50 has now been replaced in Casio’s extensive model range by this, the new EX-ZX500. With a list price of £279.99, but available for as little as £192 if you shop around, it is cheaper than its predecessor and compares well with rival models in this sector of the market. It is more than just an improvement of an existing camera, it is a completely new design with many new and impressive looking features."

Nikon Coolpix S4 Review

Nikon S4PCMag review the new Nikon Coolpix S4 - it features a swivel 10x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and a 6 megapixel sensor:

"Nikon's latest superzoom, the Nikon Coolpix S4, is designed so that the lens and the body can rotate independently of each other. This swiveling design was first introduced on the Coolpix 900 a number of years ago, and the last Nikon to have it was the 4X optical Coolpix 4500. It's a wonderful design, especially useful for Hail Mary shots or shooting over crowds. Unfortunately, we found the pictures taken with the S4 to be a bit disappointing."

Build your own Macro Lens

Photocritic have posted their guide on how to make a macro lens for a Digital SLR:

"So, you like the idea of doing macro photography, but you think you can’t afford it? Think again - with less than £1 worth of equipment, a little bit of sweat and tears (and blood, if you, like me, are a bit on the clumsy side), and you can build yourself a surprisingly good macro lens. Don’t believe me? Well, have a look at the article, and think again!"

Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 Review

Sony T9DCResource have published their full review of the new 6 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 - Sony's ultra compact digital camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and built in image stabilisation:

"When I first saw photos of the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 ($449), my first thought was "oh good, ANOTHER one of these!". Upon further inspection I found that this is more than another ultra-thin T-series Sony camera. The T9 is the first camera in Sony's ultra-compact lineup to feature an optical image stabilization system, something which is quite uncommon on ultra-thin cameras like this. Image stabilizers help reduce camera shake, allowing you to use slower shutter speeds than on unstabilized cameras. The other features on the T9 are more run-of-the-mill: a 6 Megapixel CCD, 2.5" LCD display, AF-assist lamp, and VGA movie mode."

Olympus SP-500 Review

Olympus SP500PCWorld have reviewed the Olympus SP-500 Ultra Zoom, it features a 10x optical zoom lens, a 6 megapixel sensor, and a 2.5" screen:

"The SP-500 Ultra Zoom is also well priced: At $380, it is significantly cheaper than most of the other models we've seen with long zooms. The resolution of 6 megapixels is a little behind the 7.2- and 8.4-megapixel models that we are seeing now, but the Olympus's resolution is more than adequate for most people. You can easily blow up the images to 8-by-10-inch size and get photos that will look good on the wall."

Olympus Evolt E-500 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E-500PCMag review the new 8 megapixel Olympus Evolt E-500 Digital SLR:

"With so many digital camera manufacturers offering inexpensive digital SLRs, consumers have a lot of options to choose from. The overall quality is generally very high, but careful testing can detect subtle differences. Although our tests turned up some small issues with image quality and performance, we found the 8-megapixel Olympus Evolt E-500 to be a very good camera, but one that still falls shy of unseating our present entry-level D-SLR Editors' Choice, the Nikon D50."

Available for £499 with kit lens or £619 with two lenses.

Nikon D50 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D50Shutterbug review the 6 megapixel Nikon D50 Digital SLR:

"Like the D70s, the D50 benefits from upgrades over the older D70. The best of these includes a larger 2” LCD monitor (vs. 1.8”), newly designed menus, wider built-in flash coverage (for focal lengths as short as 18mm), and improved autofocus performance. The five-area autofocus system continues to feature a cross-type sensor in the center as well as reliable low-light detection. The primary improvement for both cameras was in the continuous autofocus system. Like the D70s, the D50 provides faster, more consistent subject acquisition and improved focus tracking. The D50 is also said to be faster to acquire focus with static subjects in outdoor shooting."

Nikon Coolpix P1 Review

Nikon P1LetsGoDigital review the new Nikon Coolpix P1 - the 8 megapixel digital camera features a 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and built in wi-fi support:

"The convincing sales argument of the Nikon Coolpix P1 is of course the possibility of transferring your photos through Wi-Fi. The Nikon P1 is the first camera available with this option together with the Nikon Coolpix P2. But the competing brands have not sat still and will soon introduce some Wi-Fi models. Working with Wi-Fi is great fun and the Nikon Coolpix P1 makes it very easy too, even though at this moment the possibilities are still rather limited. If you think you can just mail a photo directly from the camera, you will be disappointed. Moreover, you can't just log in to any network. You will still have to make the physical connection by means of a cable for creating a profile in order to have the camera function with the device. The Wi-Fi option's only purpose is to transfer images."

Fujifilm FinePix E900 Review

Fuji E900Steves-Digicams have reviewed the new 9 megapixel Fuji FinePix E900 - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, and a 2" screen:

"The Fujifilm FinePix E900 features a 9-megapixel 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor Which makes it the highest resolution available in a consumer digital camera at the time of this review. The compact and lightweight FinePix E900 is the current flagship of Fujifilm’s E-series. The fully automatic features of the E900 provide point and shoot simplicity, while manual and customizable feature settings provide additional control, particularly when combined with the power of optional lenses."

The lens cannot be detached, but will accept conversion lenses when increased magnification or viewing angle are sought. The SP-500 UZ packs 6 megapixels and 27 shooting modes, ranging from fully manual to specific scene modes into its compact SLR-shaped body. The 4.15 x 2.93 x 2.8-inch digital camera applies a 2.5-inch LCD screen with 115,000 pixels as well as an electronic viewfinder, providing users with multiple means of composition and image review. Nikon Coolpix P2 Review

Nikon P2Cameras.co.uk have reviewed the new 5 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P2 - it features a 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and built in wi-fi:

"The Nikon Coolpix P2 is a five megapixel digital camera with a 3.5x optical zoom lens. In terms of features this is a fairly standard digital camera, but with one significant difference. The Coolpix P2 has technology built into it that allows you to transmit your images directly to your computer. There is no need to connect your camera using cables. This technology is called wi-fi. For the process to work the computer you use must also be wi-fi compatible. If you are not sure your computer is wi-fi compatible you will need to check with your computer supplier."

Nikon Coolpix S4 Review

Nikon S4DCResource have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S4 - a 6 megapixel camera featuring a swivel 10x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and face-priority auto-focus:

"The Coolpix S4 ($400) marks Nikon's return to the swivel-body camera design. Back in the early days of digital photography Nikon had quite a hit on their hands with the Coolpix 900 series cameras, and later the CP4500. That was the last "true" swivel-body Nikon camera, unless you count the ill-fated Coolpix SQ."

Olympus IR-500 Review

Olympus IR-500CNET have reviewed the Olympus IR-500, a 4 megapixel digital camera with a 2.5" swivel screen and various compatible options, such as a printer, hard drive etc:

"The Olympus IR-500 wants to be the iPod of digital cameras: cool, convenient, and especially versatile in playback mode. Although it's a competent enough 4-megapixel snapshot camera, with 17 scene modes--but only a limited 2.8X 40mm-to-112mm (35mm-camera equivalent) zoom lens--it really excels as a playback device. Nestled in the bundled docking station, it can display any of 12 different slide shows, each with as many as 100 voice-narrated pictures. Lengthy shows are most practical when you link the dock to the optional 16-ounce 40GB S-HD-100 hard drive. The IR-500 has nine PowerPoint-like transition effects, including zoom up and down, checkerboards, faders, swivels, and Venetian blinds. It can also display your images sorted by shooting date, as a sort of visual diary. The slide show and "diary" modes have their own easy-access positions on the mode dial."

Sanyo Xacti E6 Review

Sanyo E6LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Sanyo Xacti E6 - a unique looking 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 3" screen:

"The Sanyo Xacti E6 is a marvellously designed digital camera with nicely rounded off corners. The housing feels solid and shows its quality. The designers of the Xacti E6 have applied various new techniques like the new size 3-inch format LCD monitor with improved G.U.I. (Graphics User Interface) structure and the so-called Touch sensor. The compact size of the camera requires a small memory card such as the Secure Digital (SD) memory card. This card has to be inserted at the bottom of the camera which holds the compartment that also contains the battery. Sanyo has gained a lot of experience on the field of video functions and speed improvements concerning focus and release button. Sanyo shows its best behaviour again with the Xacti E6, on the video area (MPEG4) as well as on the speed area by integrating the Touch sensor."

Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 Review

Sony R1New site Cameralabs have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Sony Cybershot R1, it features a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens and a 2" swivel screen:

"The R1 is unlike any all-in-one so far released. It's the first to employ a large APS-sized CMOS sensor which is roughly the same size as those found in budget digital SLRs. This means the R1 should enjoy low noise levels and high sensitivities even with its high resolution of 10.8 Megapixels."

Kodak Easyshare P880 Review

Kodak P880DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Kodak Easyshare P880 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"Kodak is currently the fastest growing digital camera brand and the folks in Rochester are confident they can now challenge Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony for dominance in the highly profitable prosumer digicam marketing niche. The newly introduced EasyShare P880 is meant to accomplish just that goal. The P880 was designed to combine the sophisticated performance options and advanced creative capabilities of a dSLR with Kodak's signature user-friendly philosophy and legendary operational simplicity. The P880 features 8 Megapixel resolution, an ultra-wide f/2.8-f4.1/24-140mm (35mm equivalent) SCHNEIDER-Kreuznach Variogon zoom (with manual zoom and focus rings), a large 2.5" LCD screen, RAW image file support, a 25 point hybrid AF system, a hot shoe for dedicated external flash units (like Kodak's new P20), ISO 50 sensitivity, a 1/4000th of a second top shutter speed, and a full range of exposure options (Auto, Program, Scene Modes, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and full Manual modes)."

It's targeted at enthusiasts and boasts a lot of 'world firsts' including the largest LCD on a digital camera (3.5 inches), world's longest zoom on a high-end camera and world's largest capacity lithium-ion battery. The Pro815 sports a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and boasts a color data LCD screen for waist-level shooting, 2.5fps continuous mode and a wealth of photographic features."

HP Photosmart R717 Review

HP Photosmart R717PCWorld have ranked the HP Photosmart R717 as the number 1 Point and Shooot digital camera:

"The quality of the R717's photos impressed us, as it produced some of the sharpest images we've seen from a point-and-shoot. Colors looked attractive, though a bit more oversaturated than the actual hues. We also saw a little speckling--possibly the result of oversharpening--on our color-distortion tests. These were minor weaknesses, however, and we gave the R717 an overall image-quality rating of Very Good."

Casio Exilim EX-Z110 Review

Casio Z110Cameras.co.uk have reviewed the new 6 megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z110 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen:

"The Casio Exilim EX-Z110 is a six megapixel digital camera with a three times optical zoom lens. It can be used as a simple point and shoot camera or you can take more control over the final image by using the manual exposure controls available. This type of camera can appeal to couples or families where one person is looking for ease of use and someone else would like something more advanced. The Exilim EX-Z110 offers a fairly inexpensive option if you would like a camera with some advanced features."

Casio Exilim EX-Z110 Review

Casio Z110DPExpert have reviewed the new 6 megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z110 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen:

"The Casio Exilim EX-Z110 immediately endeared itself to us by having an optical viewfinder. It is a very small affair but it has reasonable image area coverage of about 80 per cent of what the sensor will capture. Exposure was generally good. Focus was a little soft, needing a touch of sharpening in Photoshop. We turned a sequence of images taken with this camera into a slide show for display on a large television set and the results were excellent."

Nikon D50 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D50TrustedReviews have reviewed the Nikon D50 Digital SLR - it features a 6 megapixel sensor and is available with a kit lens:

"For about two years now there has been a race going on between Canon, Pentax, Konica Minolta, Olympus and Nikon to produce the first truly mass-market digital SLR. The price point that they have all been trying to beat is £500 for a camera and a lens, and the competing models all have 6 megapixel sensors. Pentax has come close with the *ist DL plus an 18-55mm lens available for £599. Canon has come closer still, pricing the EOS 350D kit at £579, and Konica Minolta’s Dynax 5D can be found for £524.49 if you shop around. However Nikon has finally done it. You can buy a D50 complete with 18-55mm lens for just £474.94, a price which compares well to the current crop of high-end fixed lens cameras, making the D50 a real low-cost alternative to and an ideal entry-level D-SLR. That £474.94 is the High Street price; if you shop around online you can find the same package for as little as £460, although of course the usual caveats about grey imports and long delivery times apply."

Canon Powershot A620 Review

Canon A620Megapixel.net review the new Canon Powershot A620 - a 7 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens, and a 2" swivel screen:

"The new PowerShot A620 — and the A610, which has a similar body — are the latest additions to Canon's economical A-Series cameras. The A620 offers a 7.1 megapixel resolution — the A610 is equipped with a 5-megapixel CCD — a 2-inch hinged LCD monitor, and a 4X optical zoom."

Panasonic Lumix LX1 Review

Panasonic Lumix LX1PhotographyBLOG have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix LX1, it features a 8.4 megapixel wide-aspect ratio CCD sensor, a wide angle Leica 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a difference - it's the first compact digicam to feature a 16:9 ratio CCD sensor, perfect for viewing on your widescreen TV or just for a more panoramic effect. The DMC-LX1 also offers more conventional 3:2 and 4:3 ratio images via a switch on the lens barrel, achieving these sizes by removing 1 megapixel and 2 megapixels respectively. In addition to the unique widescreen image format, the Panasonic DMC-LX1 has a wealth of options that will appeal to the more serious photographer. A 4x optical zoom lens from Leica which starts at a wide-angle 28mm, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, optical image stabilizer, full range of manual exposure controls, compact all-metal body and RAW, TIFF and JPEG image formats are all on offer."

Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 Review

Sony R1DPReview have reviewed the new Sony Cybershot DSC-R1, it features a large APS sized 10 megapixel sensor with high ISO settings, a 2" swivel screen, and a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens:

"This is the first all-in-one digital camera to utilize a large (APS size) sensor, to be precise a 10.3 megapixel CMOS unit measuring 21.5 x 14.4 mm which is essentially a slightly smaller version of the sensor used in the Nikon D2X. It's also the first APS size sensor to provide full time live preview to the camera's LCD monitor or EVF (electronic viewfinder). This means that there's no mirror box or prism making the camera more compact and allowing the lens to be positioned much closer to the sensor. Equally as important and interesting is the lens which provides a 24 - 120 mm (equivalent) five times zoom with a maximum aperture of F2.8 - F4.8."

Olympus Evolt E-500 Review

Olympus E-500Imaging-Resource have reviewed the new Olympus Evolt E-500 - 8 megapixel digital SLR:

"The Olympus EVOLT E-500 is the latest entry in a line of digital SLRs based on the "Four Thirds" standard developed jointly by Olympus and Kodak, first announced in fall of 2002. The first Four Thirds camera was the Olympus E-1 SLR, aimed at the professional market, and was followed up by the E-300, which brought the Four Thirds system down to a price range accessible to amateur and "enthusiast" shooters. The E-300 used the same lenses and sensor format as the original E-1, but offered an impressive eight-megapixel resolution, and shipped with a new ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-45mm lens."

Polaroid Digital Camera Phone with Printer

Polaroid Camera PhoneEngadget have details of a new (prototype?) Polaroid Digital Camera Phone - it prints directly from the phone:

"The phone is labeled HS-RSS, and seems quite small for being a mini photo printer, much less the added camera phoning and media playing the device is supposedly capable of."

More details, and another picture, at Mobile Korea: "It is literally a multiplayer model that has MP3 player, digital camera, PMP and of course, mobile handset in a single device."

Fujifilm FinePix E900 Preview

Fuji E900LetsGoDigital have previewed the new 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix E900 - it features a 2.5" screen and a 4x optical zoom lens:

"Some time ago Fujifilm introduced a new series of FinePix digital cameras. Among them the new Fujifilm FinePix E900. This new compact digital camera is one of the first cameras to deliver an amazingly high resolution of 9 Megapixels. Like the DIWA Gold Award rewarded Fujifilm FinePix S9500, the E900 is equipped with the powerful 5th generation Super CCD HR image sensor. Combined with Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology, a powerful 4x optical zoom lens and a sensitivity range of ISO 80 to ISO 800, the black coloured Fujifilm FinePix E900 is an interesting digital camera, pioneering the high resolution class for compact digital cameras."

Olympus Mju 600Photoxels have reviewed the new weather-proof Olympus Mju Digital / Stylus 600, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen:

"The Olympus Stylus 600 starts up in about 2 sec. and there is no practical shutter lag. An extra large 2.5 in. LCD with Olympus' exclusive Bright Capture Technology makes it extremely easy to view and compose shots in low levels of ambient light. It is, in fact, the best LCD "gain up" implementation we've seen so far."

Pentax Optio S6 Review

Pentax Optio S6CNET have reviewed the new 6 megapixel Pentax Optio S6 - the ultra compact digital camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and MPEG4/DIVX video recording:

"The aluminum-alloy, 6-megapixel Pentax Optio S6--which the company bills as small enough to fit inside a tin of Altoids (it will also fit inside a pack of cigarettes, if that's your weakness)--is a well-designed digital camera that will please casual shooters with its ease of use and build quality. Though some photo-quality shortcomings and sluggish shooting mar its overall value, Pentax's slimmest offering is a good choice for anyone looking for a pocketable camera that produces decent snapshots and looks great while doing it."

Nikon D200 Digital SLR Review

Ken Rockwell has reviewed the new Nikon D200 Digital SLR - Nikon's new 10.2 megapixel digital SLR:

"The D200 is Nikon's latest DSLR. It's a semi-pro camera positioned between the hugely popular D70s and the full-time professional D2X. It has absolutely nothing to do with the 3-1/2 year old D100. The D200 is similar in size to the D70s and a little heavier. It's very similar in size and weight to the F100 and similar in feel and features to the D2X and adds a built-in flash."

The P850 (reviewed here) features a 12X stabilized zoom lens, while its sibling the P880 (review to come) features a 24 mm wide-angle lens. The P850 is Kodak's first ultra zoom with image stabilization, a feature which is becoming more and more popular in the ultra zoom category. Other features include a 5 Megapixel CCD, full manual controls, large 2.5" LCD, hot shoe, and VGA movie mode."

Sanyo Xacti C6 Review

AkihabaraNews have reviewed the Sanyo Xacti C6 - a 6 megapixel digital camera / camcorder, with a 5x optical zoom lens:

"The Xacti C6, a hybrid digital video/photo camera, has come on stage to replace the C1, C4 and C5! Sanyo has really reaped the benefits of the first Xacti, and despite the fact that they were not the first on the market with such a device (that honour goes to Panasonic's D-Snap), the company is proud to announce that they are the market leader in this domain, way ahead of Sony's DSC-M1 and its successor the M2."

The Barbie-size SP-350 is not only one of the most affordable 8-megapixel cameras on the market but also one of the smallest. Its 24 scene modes will appeal to snapshooters, while enthusiasts will appreciate this pocketful's manual controls, raw-capture and custom settings, and optional conversion lenses, external flash, and underwater housing."

Canon Digital IXUS 750 / SD550 Review

IXUS 750BIOSMagazine have reviewed the new 7 megapixel Canon Digital IXUS 750 / Powershot SD550:

"There are three things that strike you about the IXUS 750 (PowerShot ELPH SD550 in the US): its compact size; solid and robust design; and the large 2.5-inch screen which occupies most of the camera's rear. The fact that the camera offers a capture resolution of 7.1-Megapixels (3072x2304 pixels) is also impressive."

"The Pentax Optio S60 is a straightforward six megapixel digital camera. It is a stylish model with an aluminium body. One of its biggest attractions is the fact that it is easy to use. The Optio S60 is likely to suit anybody who is looking for a point and shoot digital camera and who is prepared to pay a bit extra for the better build quality this camera offers. It is priced to allow anyone who sees photography as a hobby or would like to experiment with photography the chance to buy digital. Fujifilm FinePix S5200 / S5600 Review

Fuji S5600DigitalCameraInfo review the new Fujifilm FinePix S5200 / S5600 - it features a 10x optical zoom lens, a 1.8" screen and a 5 megapixel sensor:

"The SLR-like Fujifilm FinePix S5200 is a 5.1 megapixel (effective) 10x ultra zoom camera with the typical priorities of a long zoom Fuji: it lacks optical image stabilization, but attempts to compensate with extended ISO settings up to 1600 and a pretty wide maximum aperture to allow fast shutter speeds, minimizing the need for image stabilization. Its images are captured with a 1/2.5” CCD and will appear on a 1.8” LCD monitor, as will its 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 video clips in AVI (Motion JPEG) format. The S5200 is a light, compact camera that offers manual control options, high sensitivity settings and a long telephoto lens to a range of consumers at a list price of $399.95 – going as low as $320 online."

Ricoh Caplio R3 Review

Ricoh Caplio R3DPExpert have published their review of the new Ricoh Caplio R3 - a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with a 2" screen and an impressive wide-angle 7.1x optical zoom lens:

"The low-down: Ricoh’s Caplio R3 is a little 5 megapixel point and shoot camera with a zoom range from 28mm to 200mm film equivalent. This is a long range for a compact camera, making it ideal for the tourist who doesn’t want to carry a digital SLR and a bag of lenses. 5 megapixels is not a lot these days, but 5 million clean pixels can deliver better pictures than 8 million noisy ones -- and these are very clean pixels indeed."

Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 Review

Sony P200IT Analysis have posted customer reviews of the Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 - a compact 7 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2" screen:

"Have had mine about 9 months & have been pleased with the results, its capable of excellent pictures, both viewed on-screen & printed. I was surprised by the quality of the video its capable of, easily good enough to edit/title & watch on your DVD player. Mine is currently under repair after a drop, which shattered the LCD screen, but amazingly it still took pictures! so must have a fairly robust construction. I got the black one but don't be fooled.... it's not black, its Grey!"
