Fujifilm FinePix S5600 S5200 Review!

Fujifilm S5600 S5200I've just posted my full review of the new Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200 - a 5 megapixel ultra zoom from Fuji, it features a 10x optical zoom lens, a 1.8" screen, and ISO upto 1600:

"Announced on the 28th of July 05, the Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200 is a new 5 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens - an update to the popular 4 megapixel Fujifilm S5500 / S5100, and 3 megapixel Fujifilm S5000. The cameras 10x optical zoom lens has a 38mm - 380mm film equivalent. The camera features an 'Anti-blur' mode using high ISOs upto ISO1600 in order to avoid blur in photos. The Fujifilm FinePix S5600 is available from £206, this makes it good value for money for an ultra zoom digital camera."

I agree with the results of ISO testing that at 800 and 1600, there is too much loss of picture details because of aggressive noise reduction by the camera. However, this only happens to JPEG format, and the camera does have RAW format - when you open the RAW in Photoshop (with 3.4 RAW plugin update to support the S5600 (S5200 in Canada)), the image sharpness is completely preserved. You can remove a lot of noise with software like Noise Ninja. Yes you are still left with a lot of grains (noise) but the images are perfectly usable even up to 3MP (the grains are not any worse than ISO 800 or 1600 non-digital films). Only the RAW format shows how the Fuji's sensor really performs.

I really love the overall performance of this camera. The optical quality is better than average (but not as good as my Pana Lumix FZ5 Leica lens). The zoom range is adequate (but I also have a 0.7X WA and 1.4X tele converter made by Kodak, which fit the 55mm filter threads and work well on both my S5200(/5600) and FZ5). The low light performance is far better than most other megazoom non-DSLR cameras. I cannot find anything else at the price range to beat the S5600's quality!
