Megapixel Race Over?

Canon Powershot A620NYTimes have an interesting article suggesting that the megapixel race is over, now that cameras are at 7 and 8 megapixels. They also talk about new digital camera technologies, such as image stabilisation, wi-fi, and digital camera design:

“In compact cameras, I think that the megapixel race is pretty much over,” says Chuck Westfall, director of media for Canon’s camera marketing group. “Seven- and eight-megapixel cameras seem to be more than adequate. We can easily go up to a 13-by-19 (A3) print and see very, very clear detail.”

Personally, I’m still happy with my 3 megapixel Panasonic Lumix FZ3, and 4 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-L1, one provides a decent amount of zoom, and the other is ultra compact so allows me to have a camera with me at all times. Although saying that, I hardly ever print any of my photos, and expect I’ll probably upgrade one of them before my next holiday.

  2. Hello JoshuaIs it supid to imagine, for small digital cameras, a 12, 14 I don’t know captor, a fix optical and the zoom optained by decreasing the size of the photo – exemple without any real calculation:14 mégas = 25 mm8 mégas = 120 mm5 megas = 200 mm??????????????
