Olympus EVOLT E-330 Guide
Digital SLR Guide have published their guide to the new Olympus EVOLT E-330 Digital SLR with live preview screen. It features a 7.5 megapixel sensor, and a 2.5″ swivel screen:
“It’s strange for an SLR photographer to be freed from the viewfinder, able to compose photos at any angle and still get a well-framed shot. I found it liberating. There are two modes for the live LCD display on the Olympus E-330. In A mode, the LCD displays the preview and you can also look through the viewfinder.”
Canon Digital IXUS 65 SD630 Review
Steves Digicams have posted their review of the new Canon Powershot SD630 / Digital IXUS 65 – the ultra compact 6 megapixel digital camera features a large 3″ screen and a 3x optical zoom lens. The Canon Digital IXUS 65 is available for £227 from Amazon UK:
“One of the most critical aspects when searching for a digital camera is the image quality, and the SD630 brings a lot to the table. When using the 6-megapixel Large/SuperFine mode, I was able to capture great shots both indoors and out. Our outdoor samples are sharp with good overall exposure, and color balance was pleasing for a consumer camera. The Canon 3x optical zoom lens offers versatility in composing your shots, with a 35mm equivalent focal range of approx. 35mm – 105mm.”
Fujifilm FinePix E900 Review
RangeFinder Magazine have published their review of the 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix E900 – it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 2″ screen, manual controls and high ISO settings. The Fujifilm FinePix E900 is available for £259 from Amazon.co.uk
“Now along comes Fujifilm with its fifth generation Super CCD sensor that seems to go a long way to addressing the shortcomings of small sensors with a large number of pixels… All in all the E900 is a nicely finished compact camera that delivers great images at low ISOs and is ideal as a “pocket” camera.”
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 Review
Imaging Resource have published their review of the 8.4 megapixel Panasonic Lumix LX1, it features a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ screen and 16:9 aspect ratio shooting. It’s available from £311 from Amazon UK:
“Among the many unusual aspects of the Panasonic Lumix LX1, one stands out, and that’s the camera’s 16:9 ratio sensor. Unlike most digital cameras with a 4:3 or 3:2 ratio sensor, the LX1′s 16:9 sensor is only at its maximum 8.4 megapixel resolution at that ratio; from there, the sides get cropped off, and the actual total number of pixels falls from 8 to 7.1 megapixels at 3:2 and 6.0 megapixels at 4:3. Leaving it locked to 4:3 for familiarity’s sake would be very much like getting a wide screen TV and watching only old VHS video tapes: you end up wasting much of the screen area left and right.”

Kodak Easyshare Z650 Review
DPReview have published their review of the new 6 megapixel Kodak Easyshare Z650 – it features a 10x optical zoom lens and a 2″ screen. The Kodak Easyshare Z650 is available for £187 at Amazon UK:
“The EasyShare Z650 replaces the Z740 at the top of the Kodak’s affordable super zoom range, and offers a lower cost, lower specified alternative to the ‘professional’ P850. The changes over the previous model are fairly modest; the pixel count increases from 5 to 6MP and the lens is now a Schneider Variogon (as opposed to the Z740′s Kodak Retinar) – though it looks suspiciously similar. The new model also gets a bigger (though lower resolution) LCD screen, a few new scene modes and a live histogram. It may have a budget price, but the Z650 boasts a comprehensive set of shooting options and Kodak’s famous ease of use, though it is one of the few models in this class not to offer any form of image stabilization.”
The predecessor, the Kodak Easyshare Z740, a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens, is probably the cheapest ultra zoom digital camera available, at only £152 including VAT and postage at Amazon UK.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Review
Megapixel.net have reviewed the new Panasonix Lumix TZ1, the world’s smallest 10x optical zoom digital camera, the 5 megapixel camera features a folded optical zoom lens that runs along the inside of the body, with image stabilisation, a 2.5″ screen, a VGA video mode, and high sensitivity mode with ISO800 and ISO1600. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is available for £319 from Amazon UK:
“Unlike any other current digital camera, the DMC-TZ1 is equipped with a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 10X optical zoom with folded optics, a term that Panasonic uses to describe the fact that the greatest part of the optical elements that comprise the lens are mounted horizontally within the camera’s body, while others extend from the camera in the traditional way. This lens configuration allows a 10X zoom to protrude no more than a 3X zoom, making it very practical.”
HP Photosmart R927 Review
Digital Camera Review have published their review of the new 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 – it features a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 3″ screen on the back:
“The HP Photosmart R927 provides a vast array of options and capabilities neatly packaged into an easy to use device. It’s solid enough for advanced use, and easy enough that someone with no prior experience can pick it up and go. All in all, I’d call it a very worthwhile camera for the money, whether you’re looking for a simple and effective means of snapping a few casual pictures, or you’re an hobbyist wanting more powerful equipment without sacrificing usability.”
Ricoh GR Digital Review
SubtleImages have published their informative and entertaining review of the new 8 megapixel Ricoh GR Digital – it features a 28mm wide angle lens, a 2.5″ screen, and manual controls, all in a compact solid metal body:
“No camera is perfect. And when you are speaking of professional capabilities in a small package, that perfection is even harder to achieve. Ricoh has made the step in the right direction with the release of the GR-D, it has the features of the most advanced SLR in a small package without compromising a lot of the quality of the images it produces. No doubt that it has many flaws (with the slow buffer as the biggest), but its shining quailities far outweighs them, and I have nothing but the highest recommendation for GR-D.”

Kodak Easyshare V570 Review
DPExpert have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare V570, it was (until the announcement of the V610) the only digital camera in the world to feature two lenses, one an ultra wide angle lens, the other a normal 3x optical zoom lens. The camera also features a 2.5″ screen and a 5 megapixel sensor. The Kodak Easyshare V570 is available for £219 from Amazon UK
“The dual lens system looks like a gimmick, as though Kodak is straining to create some distinguishing feature for the camera. In fact it works well. For anyone planning a trip that will take in the cramped cities of Europe where it is hard to get back far enough to take in an entire building the V570 will be a boon. We like it!”
