Nikon Coolpix L6 Review
Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix L6 – it offers an amazing battery life of 1000 shots when used with Lithium batteries – it takes two AA batteries and will last 400 shots with Alkaline batteries. The camera features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ screen with 115k pixels, and ISO upto 800. The Nikon Coolpix L6 is available for £123 from Amazon
“Overall, I’m very impressed with the Nikon Coolpix L6 – the camera is clearly designed to appeal to a specific target audience and it does a very good job of meeting the needs of that demographic. The camera is very user friendly and it consistently delivers surprisingly good images. It’s an excellent choice for busy folks and casual photographers who want a camera that’s compact enough to drop in a pocket and take along everywhere they go, tough enough to stand up to the rigors of modern life, cheap enough to be a real bargain, and if all that’s not enough, the L6 has the best battery life of any digicam in its class.”
Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 DSLR Review
Digital Camera Review have posted their review of the new 7.5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix L1 Digital SLR, it features a live-view, and a new Leica lens.
“The 7.5 megapixel Lumix DMC-L1 is Panasonic’s first digital SLR – The camera uses a Four Thirds lens mount, as seen on Olympus’ digital SLRs. The 7.5 megapixel Live MOS sensor that is used in the L1 has also been seen on the Olympus E-330. Like the Olympus, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 has a “Live View” mode that allows image preview on the LCD and the Supersonic Wave Filter dust-reduction system. The L1 also ships with a very nice Leica lens (Leica D Vario Elmarit 14-50mm/f2.8-3.5).”

Olympus Mju Stylus 1000 Review
Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new top of the range Olympus Mju 1000 – it marks 10 years of Olympus digital cameras – and features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ screen, a stainless steel weatherproof body, and high ISO modes (ISO64 – 1600 at 10 megapixels, and upto ISO6400 at 3mp) to avoid image blur. It also has a new feature called “Perfect Fix” for correction of image blur, backlight (dynamic range), and red eye. The camera is available for £230 from Amazon:
“If you’re looking for a weatherproof (water resistant and dustproof) camera for taking snapshots at the beach or on a camping trip, and you don’t need any manual exposure modes, an Olympus Stylus is always a good choice. Even with a 10 megapixel “overkill” resolution with this camera – it still takes good pictures (and leaves plenty of room for cropping).”

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi 400D Review
Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Enthusiast Kit – it features a new dust reduction system, similar to the one featured on all Olympus Digital SLRs, 3fps shooting, ISO100 to ISO1600, 500 shot battery life, and a 2.5″ screen. “The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi is an update of the Rebel XT with a 10.1-megapixel sensor, a dust removal system and a 2.5-inch 230,000-pixel LCD, along with a number of other improvements. At a list price of $699.99 with an 18-55mm kit lens, or $599.99 for the body only, the Rebel XTi picks up much of the image processing architecture of current pro and prosumer Canons with the same Picture Styles system.”

Nikon D40 Digital SLR Review
ePhotoZine have reviewed the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it’s not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5″ screen, ISO 200 – 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. It ships next month for $599 / £449(!), which should make it an appealing Christmas Digital SLR. It’s available for pre-order from Amazon UK for £449 with kit lens.
“As an entry-level camera, the improvements over the D50 are all in the right areas. Sticking with the 6.1MP sensor is a sensible move, as most folk do not need the resolution offered by higher pixel counts and the saving in both hard disc storage and processing speed will be appreciated by many, even if they don’t know it. The image quality from it is good enough to beat most compacts anyway. The size and weight will appeal too, as there is virtually no weight penalty over the larger bridge cameras and, for the first time with an SLR, I could actually get it in a coat pocket comfortably.”
Olympus E-400 Digital SLR Review
CameraLabs have published their review of the world’s smallest and lightest 10 megapixel Digital SLR, the E-400, it’s based on the 4/3rds Standard, and introduced two new smaller lenses: a Zuiko Digital 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 ED and a Zuiko Digital 40-150mm 1:4-5.6 ED. The camera features a 2.5″ screen with 215,000 pixels, up to 3fps with a five image RAW buffer in burst mode shooting, anti-dust sensor, XD and CF memory card slots, 95% frame coverage, 0.92x magnification, ISO100 – 1600, measures 129.5mm (W) x 91mm (H) x 53mm (D) and weighs 380g (body only). The camera is currently only available in Europe and Asia. The E-400 with twin kit lens is available for around £799.
“Ultimately while the E-400’s key rivals can work out cheaper from some dealers, it still easily earns itself a Highly Recommended rating. The quality and controls are very good, the compact body is extremely portable without compromising handling, and the SSWF remains the only anti-dust system we’ve tested which seems genuinely effective. The E-400 will equally appeal to first-time DSLR buyers and experienced photographers who want a compact body with decent creative control.”

Canon Powershot A530 vs Canon 5D DSLR
Ken Rockwell has reviewed the new Canon Powershot A530, and compared it to a Canon 5D Digital SLR costing 40x as much! The A530 features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 5 megapixel sensor, and a 2.5″ screen. The Canon Powershot A530 is excellent value for money, available for £99 from Amazon UK:
“You can take the image from the $150 camera and put it on a billboard, since people see those from hundreds of feet away. What’s important? Lightness (tone) and color. Talk to any painter or artist and they’ll concur: details are just details, they’re not critical to the success of a color image. Note that the sharper image from the 5D, even blown up this far, still has obviously suckier color.”

Olympus FE-190 X-750 Review at DCRP
DCResource have reviewed the new ultra-slim FE-190 – the FE-190 is just 18.8mm thick, and features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5″ screen. It uses high ISO settings to avoid image blur. The FE-190 is available for £130:
“Photo quality on the FE-190 was not great. The good news is that photos were well-exposed, with minimal purple fringing. If you’re in “normal light” that the camera’s auto white balance system can figure out, then colors should be very nice as well. However, I took quite a few shots in what I’d call standard indoor lighting and ended up with a strong color cast. Since there’s no way to adjust white balance on the camera, you’re out of luck when this happens.”
Canon Powershot A640 Review
Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A640 – it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ swivel screen, optical viewfinder, ISO upto 800, take 4 AA batteries, new smart zoom and a 10 megapixel sensor. The Canon Powershot A640 is available for £215 from Amazon
“The Canon Powershot A640 is a 10 megapixel compact digital camera with a 2.5 inch vari-angle LCD screen and optical viewfinder. The 4x optical zoom lens offers an effective focal length of 35-140mm, whilst under the surface the Canon A640 uses the same advanced DIGIC II processor as the company’s digital SLR cameras for faster performance and image processing. The ISO range is 80-800 and there is a new high-speed ISO 800 setting which allows you to shoot correctly exposed images in low light conditions without using a flash.”

Nikon Coolpix S7c Review at PB
Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S7c camera – an upgrade to the Nikon Coolpix S6 reviewed here. It feature a 3x optical zoom lens, a 7 megapixel sensor, a 3″ screen, Vibration Reduction, black body and wireless support. The Coolpix S7c is available for £273 from Amazon
“The Nikon Coolpix S7c is is best described as an incremental upgrade of the older 6 megapixel S6 camera, adding a few new features, some of which are more beneficial than others. The upgrade to a 7 megapixel sensor is more important to the Nikon marketing team than to the general consumer, allowing them to keep up to speed in the great megapixel race. More significant for you is the expansion of the ISO range and the addition of the Electronic Vibration Reduction mode. They combine well to allow you to take sharp photos in much lower light conditions than the S7c’s predecessor, although the EVR system isn’t as effective as a true optical-based anti-shake system.”
