Olympus Mju Stylus 1000 Review

Pocket-Lint have reviewed the new top of the range Olympus Mju 1000 - it marks 10 years of Olympus digital cameras - and features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, a stainless steel weatherproof body, and high ISO modes (ISO64 - 1600 at 10 megapixels, and upto ISO6400 at 3mp) to avoid image blur. It also has a new feature called "Perfect Fix" for correction of image blur, backlight (dynamic range), and red eye. The camera is available for £240 from Amazon:

"This is a camera that has an Achilles heel, one it has in common with almost all other 10-megapixel compacts. It is the sensor itself, which is just too small for the number of pixel it contains, cramming so many in means problems with noise, fringing and detail loss. Less is so much more (as evidenced by the recently reviewed Mju 725) in terms of detail and reduced noise problems."

Ricoh GR Digital Firmware Update v2.21

Ricoh have released a new firmware update, version 2.21, for the 8 megapixel Ricoh GR Digital - the firmware updates the following:

• Fixed the phenomenon that a Quick Review will not appear properly at the following case. - When you take a picture with [RAW 3:2], with your setting in both [B & W] in the [IMG SET], and [N640] in the [RAW/JPEG SETTING]. • Improved the AF accuracy in the macro shooting.

Ricoh have released an updated firmware (v1.55) for the new 7 megapixel Ricoh Caplio R5 - an update to the unique Ricoh Caplio R4, the new R5 features a wide-angle 7.1x optical zoom lens, ISO upto 1600, a 2.5" screen, newly designed controls and curvier body, and image stabilisation in an (ultra) compact metal body. The camera is available in Silver, Red, or Black from £235 including VAT. The update provides:

Olympus Mju 725SW Review

Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Olympus Mju 725SW - the camera is an update to the waterproof and shockproof 720SW reviewed here - and now features 3 colours and can be used under water at depths upto 5m meters (the 720SW went upto 3m). The other features are the same: 7.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and high ISO settings to avoid image blur. The 725SW is available in Blue, Cherry Red, and Grey for £225:

"In the official description of the mju 725 the shock-proofing is rated to “MIL Standard (MIL-STD 810F)” a complex and highly specific set of testing criteria published by the US military. I’ve had a look at the relevant section and apparently it means that the mju 725 SW can withstand momentary shocks of at least 1,000 G, about fifty times what the human body can withstand."

Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new top of the FE (Easy) range FE-200 - it features a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens (28mm - 135mm), a 6 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, a metal body and high ISO settings to avoid image blur. The camera should is available £145 from Amazon:

"While the wide angle, 5x optical zoom lens and 6 megapixel resolution is currently a kind of “sweet spot” in the current point and shoot market, the FE-200 doesn’t perform well enough to keep up with the competition. In addition, in my opinion, any price difference between this camera and a competitor, if there is any, is not enough to make the FE-200 any more attractive."

DPInterface have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S9 - the ultra compact digital camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen and a 6 megapixel sensor. The camera is available for £146 from Amazon:

"The Nikon Coolpix S9 is a small, stylish and affordable camera. A 3X zoom lens is self-contained in the camera and the 2.5 inch LCD on the back offers good resolution and viewing. Unfortunately, that LCD previewing won't last long without a viewfinder and below average battery life."

DPInterface have published the first online review of the new 10 megapixel upgrade to the Sony Cybershot DSC-N1, it features a 3" touchscreen, a 3x optical zoom lens, ISO upto 1600, and a 300 shot battery life. The camera is available for £244 from Amazon:

"The Sony Cyber-shot N2 packs 10 megapixels and a huge touchscreen into its small casing. The rather powerful flash, manual controls and great movie mode also add the appeal of the N2 to the crowds. Despite offering more manual controls (over exposure) than your typical compact, the Sony N2 lacks custom white balance and has limited aperture options."

Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Leica Digilux 3 - a 7.5 megapixel digital SLR with realtime preview - it is based on the Panasonic Lumix L1 and uses the Four Thirds Standard - but with additional improvements by Leica.

"You may be thinking that you've seen this camera before. Don't worry, you're not going crazy. The Leica Digilux 3 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 digital cameras were jointly developed by Leica and Panasonic, so the feature sets of the cameras are very similar. Cameras.co.uk have published a video guide to the new Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS (SD800) - it features a wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, face detection, ISO1600, a 7.1 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, and includes a VGA video mode at 30fps. Battery life is rated at 270 shots, the camera is 25mm thick, and weighs 150g. The IXUS 850 IS is available for £239 from Amazon UK.

Nikon D40 Digital SLR Review at DPReview

DPReview have reviewed the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it's not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5" screen, ISO 200 - 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. It ships next month for $599 / £449(!), which should make it an appealing Christmas Digital SLR. It's available for pre-order from Amazon UK for £439 with kit lens.

"The Nikon D40 is an all new affordable, compact, point-and-shoot digital SLR from Nikon, it follows on from the D50 but at a significantly lower price point and with a subtly different feature set. The biggest news however is probably fact that Nikon resisted the temptation to keep chasing megapixels (hooray for that) and instead appear to have concentrated on what makes a good camera, a decent viewfinder, short shutter lag, very short viewfinder blackout."

Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new Pentax Optio M20 - a 7 megapixel update to the Pentax Optio M10 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, VGA video at 30fps, and takes AA batteries:

The Digimax D103 features: 10.1 Megapixel sensor, 3x Optical Zoom, Large 2.5" LCD, Easy Grip, ISO 1000, Powerful movie functions (MPEG-4 VGA 30fps), 4cm Macro & Auto macro, Manual Functions, User-friendly “Effect” button, Quick Print button

"The Digimax D103 is a high resolution digital camera equipped with a true-colour filtered 10.1megapixel CCD and a 30x total zoom (3x optical, 10x digital), allowing you to produce high-quality, detailed photos for printing up to poster size."

Nb. It looks like an updated version of the Samsung Digimax S1000, with a larger screen.

Epson PictureMate 280 Photo Review

Photography BLOG have recently put several photo printers through their paces. The Epson PictureMate 280 (pictured), the HP Photosmart A618 and the Lexmark P350, they find the HP Photosmart A618 comes out on top, despite being the cheapest printer on test:

"If you can live with the over-saturated colours then the HP Photosmart A618 makes a great choice as a printer for all your family photos. Although the time taken per print is quite slow at around 1min 50 secs, the A618 works equally well in stand-alone mode or connected to a PC, unlike the Lexmark P350 that we recently reviewed."

Pentax Release Firmware Updates

Pentax have released firmware updates for their Digital SLR cameras, including the new K100D, K110D, *ist DL and others, to support the new larger SDHC memory card.

Read our review of the new 6 megapixel Pentax K100D Digital SLR, it features a built in anti-shake CCD sensor, as found on the Konica Minolta Maxxum Dynax 5D and 7D, and the new Sony A100, this allows any lens used on the Digital SLR to benefit from anti-shake, allowing blur free low light or long zoom photos. The camera features a 2.5" screen. The K100D with kit lens is available for only £369 making it excellent value for money!

Olympus Release SP Firmware Updates

Olympus have released updated firmware for the following digital cameras: Olympus SP-310 / SP-320, SP-350, SP-500UZ, SP-700 and FE-200.

We reviewed the SP-320 recently - it's a compact 7 megapixel digital camera with a 2.5" screen and a 3x optical zoom lens. The camera features numerous features, including full manual controls, 25 scene modes, a built in guide, digital image stabilisation. Canon Powershot A640 Review at DPReview

DPReview have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A640 - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" swivel screen, optical viewfinder, ISO upto 800, take 4 AA batteries, new smart zoom and a 10 megapixel sensor. The Canon Powershot A640 is available for £215 from Amazon

Olympus SP-510 Ultra Zoom Review

Cameras.co.uk have reviewed the new Olympus SP-510UZ - a 7.1 megapixel update to the Olympus SP-500UZ reviewed here. It features a silver body, a 10x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen. It features new high ISO modes, a feature that was lacking in the SP-500, the ISO range is ISO50 upto ISO1600 at 7.1 megapixels, and upto ISO2500 / ISO4000 at 3mp. This should help avoid image shake when using the camera in low light or at the longer end of the zoom. Battery life if also improved. The camera is available for only £169 from Amazon

"In my view the Olympus SP-510 is let down by its picture quality. There are plenty of similar super zoom cameras to choose from and to be honest I would spend my money elsewhere."

Pentax K100D Digital SLR Review On-Line!

We've just published our review of the new 6 megapixel Pentax K100D Digital SLR, it features a built in anti-shake CCD sensor, as found on the Konica Minolta Maxxum Dynax 5D and 7D, and the new Sony A100, this allows any lens used on the Digital SLR to benefit from anti-shake, allowing blur free low light or long zoom photos. The camera features a 2.5" screen. The K100D with kit lens is available for only £369 making it excellent value for money!

"Image quality is excellent, the images have very good colour, with good contrast and detail, with low noise except at the highest ISO settings (ISO1600 and ISO3200). Images were slightly smoothed but this is adjustable within the camera, and detail was very good. Purple fringing was very low with the kit lens, and red-eye was not a problem. The camera was very competent at focusing (except on very plain or dark surfaces)."

Nikon D40 Digital SLR Review at IR

Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it's not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5" screen, ISO 200 - 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. It ships next month for $599 / £449(!), which should make it an appealing Christmas Digital SLR. It's available for pre-order from Amazon UK for £439 with kit lens.

"The Nikon D40 is a natural fit in most hands. Its controls are where they should be for easy use, and the D40 is a well-behaved guest at parties with its pleasantly soft shutter sound. A big, bright LCD is great for reviewing photos from a wide variety of angles; though we do wish they'd put some kind of eye detection method to prevent glare while you're looking through the viewfinder."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 Review

Trusted Reviews have reviewed the six megapixel Panasonic DMC FX01. This compact digital camera has a 3.2x optical zoom but what makes it stand out is that it is one of the few digital cameras to offer an ultra wide angle lens and this means the camera can shoot using 16:9 and 3:2 aspect ratios. This is great for photos of landscapes, buildings, interiors and groups of people as it lets you fit in that little bit more into the frame. The FX01 is available for £172 from Amazon

Canon Digital IXUS i7 Zoom First Thoughts

The Canon Digital IXUS i7 Zoom (aka Powershot SD40) - pictured above* in Blue - only £166 from Amazon UK - it seems to be excellent value for money. The camera has 7.1 megapixels, a 2.4x optical zoom lens, a 1.8" screen, VGA video at 30fps, is ultra compact and made out of metal, it comes with a docking station, a remote control, and is available in four colours. However it doesn't come with a case, so I bought the Leather Hama Arezzo Photo DF10 Camera bag (pictured behind the i7) from Asda for £10. It was the smallest camera case they had!

The Digital IXUS i7 Zoom is, in my opinion, the modern day version of the Sony Cybershot DSC-L1, which Sony discontinued in favour of ultra-slim digital cameras with large 2.5 or 3-inch screens (they can't fit screens this big on cameras the size of the i7 Zoom). When it comes to ultra-compact digital cameras, I'm a BIG fan of these "chocolate bar" sized digital cameras such as the Canon Digital IXUS i7 Zoom, and Sony DSC-L1 (even though mine broke).

I remember paying £125 in March 2004 (less than 3 years ago) for a 3 megapixel Canon Powershot A300 that featured no optical zoom, a 1.5" screen, and a bulky body that's probably twice the size of the IXUS i7 Zoom. You get a lot for your money these days, although you still don't get a case with the camera - some things never change :)

Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon Powershot G7 - a 10 megapixel digital camera, it features a 6x optical zoom lens (35 mm film equivalent 35–210 mm) with optical image stabilisation (much like the recently announced Canon Powershot A710 IS), a 2.5" screen, face detection, ISO1600/3200, sound recording, an optical viewfinder, and a high resolution 1024 x 768 pixels (15 frames/sec.) video mode, as well as VGA / 30fps video mode. Battery life is rated as 220 shots, the camera measures 106.4 x 71.9 x 42.5 mm (4.2 x 2.8 x 1.7 in.) and weighs Approx. 320 g (11.3 oz.). The Canon Powershot G7 is available for £309 at Amazon

"I was very pleased with this latest addition to Canon's legendary "G" series line. While we miss the Vari-Angle LCD, the new 6x IS lens is a definite plus. The only negative issues we found were the problem with the optical viewfinder and the higher image noise at ISO 800 and 1600. That said, the G7 is a good choice for the beginner, novice, or enthusiast that wants a less bulky alternative to carrying around a dSLR and a bag of lenses."

Digital Cameras in 2006 at DPExpert

DPExpert have published a look back at the year 2006 - looking back at the progress made, and looking at the best digital cameras and digital camera accessories released. My vote goes to the 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F30 (pictured) - the best performing compact digital camera for low-light or indoor shots:

"Most camera companies appear to be in the grip of pixel madness and this year we have seen compact cameras that have had too many pixels for their own good. If there is one piece of advice that we can give from testing the 2006 crop it is this: 7 megapixels is enough for any compact camera. Above the pixel density image quality deteriorates."

Lensbaby 3G Review at TOP

The Online Photographer have published their review of the Lensbaby 3G - a unique SLR lens designed to give your photos a creative and artistic look.

"The new Lensbaby 3G is essentially a Lensbaby 2.0 that allows you to lock and finely adjust the focus and sweet spot orientation. There is a button on the top right that locks the lens into position, and two knobs on the bottom that act as a release. Olympus FE-190 Compact Digicam Review

Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new ultra-slim FE-190 - the FE-190 is just 18.8mm thick, and features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen. It uses high ISO settings to avoid image blur. The FE-190 is available for £130:

"The Olympus FE-190 is an easy to use, good looking, affordable camera. However, I don’t quite agree with all of the decisions that Olympus made to “strip down” the camera. For instance, you can’t adjust the sensitivity (ISO) or white balance, and you can’t even disable the digital zoom. Another area in which manufacturers like to cater to beginner users is to have features that allow you to do “fun” things with your images, like add frames, change colors, etc. With the FE-190, you can playback the images in a slideshow, but the only editing/enhancing things that you can do is to resize or rotate your image."

Pocket Lint have reviewed the world's smallest and lightest 10 megapixel Digital SLR, the E-400, it's based on the 4/3rds Standard, and introduced two new smaller lenses: a Zuiko Digital 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 ED and a Zuiko Digital 40-150mm 1:4-5.6 ED. The camera features a 2.5" screen with 215,000 pixels, up to 3fps with a five image RAW buffer in burst mode shooting, anti-dust sensor, XD and CF memory card slots, 95% frame coverage, 0.92x magnification, ISO100 - 1600, measures 129.5mm (W) x 91mm (H) x 53mm (D) and weighs 380g (body only). The camera is currently only available in Europe and Asia. The E-400 with twin kit lens is available for around £750.

"In a camera replete with so much clever stuff, you’d be forgiven for expecting a much bigger device. Until you hold the camera however, it is not immediately apparent just how svelte the E400 really is. But one worry I have is the price; it is not svelte by any standard. The E400 twin lens kit it is to be sold in includes the lens tested here plus a very compact 40 to 150mm (80 to 300mm in 35mm terms) lens for around £850."

Canon Powershot A710 IS Review

DPReview have reviewed the new 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710 IS - an update to the Canon Powershot A700 - the A710 IS features the same 6x optical zoom lens and 2.5" screen, ISO upto 800, takes 2 AA batteries, but upgrades the sensor to 7 megapixels and adds optical image stabilisation. Other features include a smart zoom that makes sure image quality is maintined with using digital zoom. The A710 IS is available for £208 from Amazon UK:

"Even in the 'blink and you'll miss it' world of compact digital cameras the budget-priced 6x zoom lensed Canon PowerShot A700 was a short-lived model; announced late February and replaced in August by the camera on test here, the PowerShot A710 IS. Imaging Resource have published their review of the new Mju / Stylus 740 - the camera is an ultra-compact, weatherproof, digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens (36mm - 180mm equiv.), a 2.5" screen, a 7.1 megapixel sensor and built in digital image stabilisation using high ISO modes (the 750 adds an anti-shake CCD sensor). The 740 is available in Pink / Red, Silver, and Blue, (for £196) and the 750 is available in Silver and Black (for around £215):

"While the Olympus Stylus 740's LCD menu system seems scattered (in nine positions, just like the control buttons) and hard to follow, the built-in help system is a good idea, even a great one. An option on the Mode dial, it lists situations and solutions as if they were options. As you dig through the menus, you find just the thing you want the camera to do -- and the OK button actually sets the camera up."

Wired have reviewed the new 6 megapixel digital SLR, the Pentax K100D, it features a built in anti-shake CCD sensor, as found on the Konica Minolta Maxxum Dynax 5D and 7D (and the new Sony A100), this allows any lens used on the Digital SLR to benefit from anti-shake, allowing blur free low light or long zoom photos. The camera features a 2.5" screen. The K100D with kit lens is available for £369!

"Pentax’s retro-cool K100D offers professional single-lens-reflex quality at a price any cub photographer can afford. In our tests, images shot at up to ISO 1600 were as blemish-free in low light as those produced by more-expensive SLRs. Color fidelity was excellent, too, except photos became reddish in very dark environments. And for beginners with a Spidey sensibility, the image sensor actually moves to counteract camera shake, making image-stabilizing lenses a thing of the past."

Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder Review

The Online Photographer have posted an early review of the new 10 megapixel Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder, available in Black or Black and Silver, the Leica M8 is Leica's first digital rangefinder. It features a 2.5" screen, and has a number of lenses and accessories available for it.

"On a tripod, writing to a raw file and converted in Phase One Capture One, the files are revealing themselves to be among the best I’ve ever worked with. They require little in the way of tonality adjustments, and way less sharpening than my Canon 1Ds Mk. II files. The only work so far is all color related. Color balance out of the box is not as guaranteed bulletproof as the Canon 5D. This will change with time and updates. I can live with it easily."

"The Olympus mju 1000 is a camera with some very good points offset by some rather bad ones. It is about average for 10MP compacts in terms of picture quality, with good colour and exposure but poor noise control and some optical problems. "I really like the Panasonic DMC FX50. It has some useful features (image stabilisation, extra large LCD screen, wide angle lens). Even more importantly it takes excellent photos and is easy to use. Recommended."

Kodak Easyshare Z710 Review

Pocket-Lint have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare Z710 - the camera features a 10x optical zoom lens, a 7.1 megapixel sensor, and a 2.0" screen. The camera is available for 200GBP.

"The camera’s resolution should allow prints up to A3 but there simply is not enough detail to support such a size, add to that some barrel distortion at the wide end of the zoom and purple fringing around high-contrast areas and I have to say that I cannot recommend this camera."

The new camera replaces the Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200 - and features a 6 megapixel Super CCD sensor with ISO upto 3200, a wide-angle 10.7x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28 - 300mm), a 2.5" screen, face-detection focus, and a rubberised black body. The camera is available for £249

"If I wanted to buy a bridge camera right now I'd get a Fujifilm S6500fd. If I wanted to buy a budget DSLR with a travel zoom then I'd also think long and hard about whether the S6500fd wasn't a better choice. It's between £50 and £100 cheaper than the S9600 and unless you need the extra pixels I think it's a better buy. It will also save you £100 - £200 off the price of an entry level DSLR and be somewhat easier to live with."

The new camera replaces the Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200 reviewed here - and features a 6 megapixel Super CCD sensor with ISO upto 3200, a wide-angle 10.7x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28 - 300mm), a 2.5" screen, face-detection focus, and a rubberised black body. The camera is available for £249

"The new model has several key features of interest; top of the list being the 6.3MP, 1/1.7" Super CCD sensor used to wide acclaim in the F30 and F31fd and offering 'full resolution' shooting at up to ISO 3200. The S6000fd (known as the S6500fd in Europe) also has a different lens to its recent predecessors, sporting what appears to be the same 28-300mm equivalent 10.7x zoom as the S9100/9600."

Nikon Coolpix S10 Review at IR

Imaging Resource have published their review of the new Nikon Coolpix S10 - an update to the Nikon Coolpix S4 - it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a swivelling body/lens design, a 10x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, ISO upto 800, and newly developed vibration reduction CCD sensor. The Coolpix S10 is available for £223 from Amazon:

"The 10x Nikkor zoom lens makes the Nikon Coolpix S10 an exceptional swivel. It does exhibit some chromatic aberration at both wide and telephoto ends of the zoom range, but we thought it was kept under control, probably thanks to Nikon's use of ED glass in the Coolpix S10. ISO 800 shots were only usable at 4x6, but the ISO 50 shots were quite good at 11x14."

Olympus FE-190 Review at Steves Digicams

Steves-Digicams have reviewed the new ultra-slim FE-190 - the FE-190 is just 18.8mm thick, and features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" screen. It uses high ISO settings to avoid image blur. The FE-190 is available for £130:

"Like we saw with the FE-140, the quality of our SHQ images isn't quite up to par with similar 6-megapixel entry-level models. While the majority of our outdoor samples show good exposure and have good center sharpness, there's above average edge softness and image noise."

Ken Rockwell has reviewed the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it's not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5" screen, ISO 200 - 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. Pentax K100D Digital SLR Review

The new camera replaces the Fujifilm FinePix S5600 / S5200 reviewed here - and features a 6 megapixel Super CCD sensor with ISO upto 3200, a wide-angle 10.7x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28 - 300mm), a 2.5" screen, face-detection focus, and a rubberised black body. "For users who are considering a digital SLR but aren't quite ready to take the plunge, the Fujifilm Finepix S6000fd offers a compelling argument for staying with an all-in-one. Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 DSLR Review

PopPhoto have posted their review of the new 7.5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix L1 Digital SLR, it features a live-view, and a new Leica lens. The DMC-L1 is available for £1197 from Amazon.

"With its excellent stabilized zoom lens, live preview, and bright-image DOF capability, the L1 offers some significant benefits over most other DSLRs. Is it worth the $1,900 price tag? If you subtract the value of the Leica 14-50mm stabilized lens, you're getting a well-built DSLR with a dual-position pop-up flash, tons of controls, and Extremely High image quality at most ISO speeds for only about $600. Try to beat that!"

The camera features a 2.5" screen with 215,000 pixels, up to 3fps with a five image RAW buffer in burst mode shooting, anti-dust sensor, XD and CF memory card slots, 95% frame coverage, 0.92x magnification, ISO100 - 1600, measures 129.5mm (W) x 91mm (H) x 53mm (D) and weighs 380g (body only). The camera is currently only available in Europe and Asia. The E-400 with twin kit lens is available for around £750.

"With lots of picture modes and a generally simplified body control system, this is a DSLR that beginners can pick up and use. It produces very good results, and with a high 10Mp resolution can equally be used for landscapes and portraits. The autofocus is fast and accurate, but lacks sophisticated tracking and selection options. The ISO range is decent, but gets very noisy at 1600, even with noise reduction."

We've updated our review of the world's smallest and lightest 10 megapixel Digital SLR, the E-400, to include pictures of the E-400 next to the Pentax K100D. The E-400 is based on the 4/3rds Standard, and introduced two new smaller lenses: a Zuiko Digital 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 ED and a Zuiko Digital 40-150mm 1:4-5.6 ED - we've tested both in our review.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Review

Digital Camera Info have published their review of the new 10 megapixel Panasonic Lumix LX2 - it's an update to the Panasonic Lumix LX1 (read our review here) - and features a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, ISO upto 1600, and a new larger 2.8" 16:9 wide LCD screen. "Coming on the heels of its release of the LX1, the first digital camera to shoot 16:9 wide-angle aspect ratio natively in addition to 4:3 and 3:2, Panasonic brought the DMC-LX2 into the market earlier this year with a few notable improvements over its predecessor. Panasonic put an improved Venus Engine III processor in this camera in an attempt to battle noise concerns that arose with the LX1. This processor is also being credited with cutting down on battery consumption, with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 purportedly capable of attaining 300 shots on a single battery charge."

Canon Powershot G7 Review at DPExpert

DPExpert have reviewed the new Canon Powershot G7 - a 10 megapixel digital camera, it features a 6x optical zoom lens (35 mm film equivalent 35–210 mm) with optical image stabilisation (much like the recently announced Canon Powershot A710 IS), a 2.5" screen, face detection, ISO1600/3200, sound recording, an optical viewfinder, and a high resolution 1024 x 768 pixels (15 frames/sec.) video mode, as well as VGA / 30fps video mode. Battery life is rated as 220 shots, the camera measures 106.4 x 71.9 x 42.5 mm (4.2 x 2.8 x 1.7 in.) and weighs Approx. 320 g (11.3 oz.). The Canon Powershot G7 is available for £309 at Amazon

"This camera is a joy to use, except for the absence of the swivelling LCD screen which is incredibly useful. But the images are disappointing. The pixel madness has Canon in its grip -- this is the second camera from the company that has disappointed by its excess pixel-induced image degradation. And to think that nine months ago Canon announced that the pixel race was over."

Ricoh GR Digital Special Edition in the UK

Ricoh UK have announced the availability of the new special edition Ricoh GR Digital to mark the 1st anniversary of the GR Digital and the 10 year anniversary of the Ricoh GR1 - apart from the stylish design and limited availability, it features a 28mm wide angle lens, a 2.5" screen, and manual controls, all in a compact solid metal body:

"Ricoh is commemorating the 1st anniversary of the award winning GR Digital camera and the 10th anniversary of its successful GR Series of 35mm compact film cameras with a special edition of the GR Digital camera. This GR Digital 1st Anniversary Commemorative model was designed by renowned Japanese illustrator Katsuya Terada and features a blue sky and clouds as the base colours of the camera with figures of angels besides the lens and on the top of the camera body. It comes with its own matching strap and lens cloth to complete the package. This model is strictly limited – only 1000 units will be made. The camera will be on sale in December at £499.99 inc Vat. Limited number available."
