It’s available for £212 from Amazon UK:
Introduction from Fuji: “Even without its revolutionary face-detection technology, the FinePix S6500fd is a formidable package. Combining the highly-acclaimed 28-300mm (equiv) Fujinon zoom lens and the award-winning picture quality of the 6.3 million pixel 6th Generation Super CCD, this is a camera capable of stunning picture quality in all shooting conditions. However what really makes the S6500fd stand out from the crowd is its ultra-fast face detection technology. For families, portraiture and any other form of people photography, this camera can tell the difference between a vase of flowers and a human face, meaning that your people photos will be sure-fire winners every time.”

I have had this camera for 4 months now. First reason for choosing it was image quality and about that I’m quite satisfied. I think this 6MP sensor delivers the best image quality in its class and beats many 7 and 8MP digicams too.
Most important feature is the 28-300 mm (35mm eq.) lens with a really nice working manual zoom. Noise wise it behaves very well up to iso 400, iso 800 is still good, iso 1600 is very usable (more so shooting RAW), and iso 3200 is still usable.
With its full manual features this digicam is a really nice tool in the hands of any photo enthusiast who needs a zoom range like this. Performance (AF, shutter lag, shot to shot time, and flash range) is generally good and in line with other digicams in its class. A pack of 4 AA NIMH batteries is good for over 300 pictures before recharging.
Pros: excellent image quality, nice zoom range 28-300 mm, no red eye, manual zoom, low noise even at higher iso, RAW
Cons: lack of optical image stabilisation, xD memory cards
Overall rating: Very Good
