Nikon D40 Digital SLRDigital SLR Guide have published their guide to the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it’s not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5″ screen, ISO 200 – 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. It ships next month for $599 / £449(!), which should make it an appealing Christmas Digital SLR. It’s available for pre-order from Amazon UK for £389 with kit lens.

“The Nikon D40 is competitively priced against other 6 megapixel digital SLR cameras, and it’s ease of use is a real advantage relative to the competition. There are a few cameras that are cheaper, including the Olympus E-500 which has a slight advantage when it comes to megapixels: 8 instead of 6.”
