Fujifilm FinePix F31fdTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F31fd – a minor update to the Fujifilm FinePix F30 – it now features face detection. The camera has a 6 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, high ISO settings up to ISO3200, a 2.5″ screen and impressive battery life, lasting 580 shots! The F31fd is available for £189 from Amazon:

“Like its predecessor the F30, the Fujifilm FinePix F31fd has the best high-ISO performance on the market, as well as a number of other useful features, not least of which is class-leading battery duration. Build quality, style, performance and photographic results are also as good as anything else on the market. However the Face Detection technology is probably not enough to justify the relatively high price compared to the outstanding F30.”

Canon Powershot S3 ISTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Canon Powershot S3 IS, a 6 megapixel update to the Canon Powershot S2 IS, the black digital camera features a 12x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, DIGIC II chip, VGA 30fps movie mode, ISO upto 800, and a 2″ swivel screen. The S3 IS is available from £246:

“Image quality is also superb. Despite only having a tiny 1/2.5in sensor, pictures are impressively sharp and detailed, far more than I would expect from a 6MP camera. In fact I’ve seen 8MP models that can’t match the S3 for fine detail, and this is undoubtedly due to the excellent lens. It is pin-sharp from edge to edge at all focal lengths, produces minimal wide-angle barrel distortion, and its fast maximum aperture ensures good shutter speeds at long focal lengths.”

Nikon D40 Digital SLRDigital Camera Review have published their review of the new Nikon D40 Digital SLR, it features a 6 megapixel sensor, a new compact body (although it’s not as small as the Olympus E-400), a 2.5″ screen, ISO 200 – 1600, 2.5fps shooting, a near-instant startup of 0.18 seconds. Available from Amazon UK for £389 with kit lens.

“The Nikon D40 was announced just in time for the holiday buying season. Nikon’s goal with the D40 was to introduce an affordable digital SLR that is easy to use and compact to address a couple of the reasons why people decide against buying a digital SLR. The D40 features a 6.1 megapixel DX format sensor, a 2.5 inch LCD with a nice graphical user interface, and it comes as a kit with an 18-55mm lens for under $600. ”

“The winning combination of the Lumix line’s Leica-branded optical zoom lenses of up to 12x, and Panasonic’s rock-steady MEGA O.I.S. “After testing the SD 800 IS recently I didn’t have particularly high hopes for the SD900, so I was pleased to see that – as compact high resolution models go – it produces superb, reliable output no matter what you throw at it. This, above all, is the mark of a successful ‘point and shoot’ camera – that you can rely on it time after time to produce good results no matter how challenging the photographic situation.”
