“But first, the camera: The K100D Super is the latest in a slowly evolving line that goes back to the *ist DS of 2004, and as such feels like an old friend. The ergonomics are excellent, the body is pleasantly light but very solid-feeling, and the pentamirror viewfinder is bright, with both Excellent tested accuracy and Excellent (though just barely) tested magnification.”

Panasonic FZ18DCResource have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 – an update to the FZ8, the FZ18 is an ultra zoom digital camera featuring a massive Leica wide-angle 18x optical zoom lens, with the same zoom range as the Olympus SP-550UZ, the FZ18 has an 8 megapixel sensor, a 2.5″ screen and new “Intelligent Auto mode”. It will be available for £269:

“If the 10X or 12X lens on your typical ultra zoom camera just isn’t enough, then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 ($399) might interest you. Based on the DMC-FZ8, the FZ18 packs a whopping 18X zoom lens into a body that’s still relatively compact (by ultra zoom standards). Not only is the zoom powerful, but it has a nice focal range: 28 – 504 mm.”

Canon Powershot G9DCResource have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Canon Powershot G9 – it features a 6x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, a 3″ screen, DIGIC III processor, 1cm macro mode, RAW image support, and ISO upto 1600. The G9 is available for £299:

“The Canon PowerShot G9 ($499) is a high-end fixed-lens camera offering almost every feature you could imagine. It replaces the PowerShot G7, which was a disappointment compared to previous models, in this reviewer’s opinion. The new G9 takes care of many of the issues that people had with the G7, with the most notable change being the addition of RAW image support.”

Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Samsung NV20 – a 12 megapixel digital camera – it features a 2.5″ screen, a 3x optical zoom lens, and metal body, and advanced shake reduction. The camera is available for £173

“The Samsung NV20 is the latest addition to Samsung’s extensive range of compact digital cameras, slotting straight in at the top of the premium NV range. Offering 12.1 megapixels, a 3x zoom lens equivalent to 34-102mm, Advanced Shake Reduction mode and a 2.5 inch LCD screen, on paper the Samsung NV20 looks very similar to a number of other cameras on the market. It has a markedly different user interface to most digicams, however, employing a touch-sensitive smart button system to make its menu system more accessible.”

Canon EOS 1D Mk IIIDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon EOS 1D MKIII – the 10 megapixel Digital SLR features 3″ screen with live view mode, ISO upto 3200 (expandable to 6400), 10 fps continuous shooting for up to 110 frames, EOS Integrated Cleaning System, Dual “DIGIC III” processors. The EOS 1d Mark II is available from Amazon

“The Canon EOS-1D Mark III looked fantastic at the Photo Marketing Association trade show last spring. Its 10 frame-per-second (fps) speed tops the industry, the 3-inch LCD looks like a movie screen, and its live preview puts Olympus and Fujifilm to shame. On the technical side, the Mark III’s electronics amount to a dual-processor computer.”

Sony cybershot DSC-W80DPReview have reviewed the new Sony Cybershot DSC-W80. The camera features a 7 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5″ screen, Super Steady Shot (Optical image stabilisation), ISO upto 3200, and an optical viewfinder, and is available in silver, white, pink and black, and is available for £133 from Amazon.

“Whilst I had no issues with focus or exposure at all when shooting outdoors in sunlight, once I was indoors the W80’s ‘hit rate’ fell dramatically, and friends and family got sick of being blinded by the (very) bright AF assist light and long wait for the picture to be taken. And if I tried to use the zoom at anything but the widest setting I started to get far more focus errors than I would expect from a Sony camera in 2007.”
