Fujifilm FinePix F480 Review

Fujifilm FinePix F480NeoCamera have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F480 - The F480 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens (28 - 112mm equiv) it features a 2.7" screen, digital image stabilistion, ISO upto 800, Xd / SD card support, and 320 x 240 30fps video support. The Fujifilm FinePix F480 is available in black or silver for £97:

"The Fuji Finepix F480 is a very basic point-and-shoot digital camera with a wide-angle lens. Its 8 megapixels sensor and 4X optical zoom are just a bit more than the average ultra-compact, but it offers much less control than most cameras in its class. Even its low resolution movie-mode is quite dated."

Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Review

Fujifilm FinePix F50fdTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F50fd - The F50fd is a 12 megapixel update to the F40fd, F30, and F10, and features a 12 megapixel 1/ 1.6-inch Super CCD HR sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.7" screen, digital and mechanical image stabilistion (CCD sensor shift), ISO upto 1600 (at 12mp), 3200 (at 6mp), and 6400 at 3mp, Xd / SD card support, face detection, infra red port, and VGA 30fps video support. The Fujifilm FinePix F50fd is available for £142

"While the F50fd is by no means a bad camera, and indeed it performs as well as any of the other 12MP compacts on the market while undercutting most of them on price, it has lost the low-light, high-ISO advantage of the F31fd and F40fd."

The Casio Exilim V8 is available for £184:

"The Casio Exilim EX-V8 is a unique camera, packing a 7X zoom lens into a body no larger than your typical Digital ELPH. It has more than its share of flaws, but if you can live with them, it's a pretty good travel camera. While I'm not jumping up and down about it, I definitely think the EX-V8 is worth a look."

"When Nikon announced the D300, the digital photography world stood up and took notice. When people call the D300 a "baby D3", they're not kidding. The D300 has nearly the exact same feature set, but with an APS-C / DX-format sensor instead of a full-frame one. That means you get the super-fast performance of the EXPEED image processor, live view on a brilliant 3-inch LCD display, a 51-point autofocus system, dust reduction, full manual controls, and the expandability that you'd expect on a Nikon SLR."

Olympus SP-560 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-560 UZDPReview have reviewed the new Olympus SP-560 Ultra Zoom - an update to the SP-550UZ - the 8 megapixel digital camera features a wider angle 18x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 27 - 486mm), 2.5" screen, 24 scene modes, digital and optical image stabilisation, VGA video, 1cm macro, built in guide, ISO upto 6400 (ISO3200 at full resolution), BrightCapture and Shadow Adjustment Technology, Face detection focus, and TruePic III image processor. The SP-560 is available for £224:

"We described the Fuji S8000fd as trying to be all things to all people, but that was before we really got to grips with the Olympus SP-560UZ. The number of features and options available on the Olympus is frankly comical. You could use this camera for years without ever finding all the (often fairly pointless) things it can do, so numerous and deeply buried in menus are they."

Canon Powershot A720 IS Review

Canon Powershot A720 ISDCResource have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Canon Powershot A720 IS - an update to the A710 and A700 - it features a 6x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, a 2.5" screen, DIGIC III processor, and ISO upto 1600. The A720 IS is available for £139:

"Overall, I was very pleased with the photo quality on the PowerShot A720. It took well exposed photos, with pleasing saturated colors. Photos are sharp, and details aren't smudged like on some cameras (Canon goes fairly easy on the noise reduction). Noise levels are quite reasonable when the lighting is good, up until ISO 400. I do wish that the A720's low light ISO performance was a bit better, though. Purple fringing was minimal on the camera."

Canon Powershot A460 Review

Canon Powershot A460Wrotniak.net have reviewed the Canon Powershot A460 - an update to the A430 - available in silver/grey, blue and red / pink - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, 5.0 Megapixel sensor, DIGIC II, iSAPS and 5-point AiAF, Wide range of shooting modes, 2.0” LCD, and VGA video recording at 30fps. The A460 is available for £69 from Amazon UK:

"Now the good news. The image quality delivered by the A460 defies any preconceptions about small sensor size, entry-level cameras, or price. Except for the Super Macro mode (which is quite bad), my images from the A-460 were quite pleasing: sharp, well-exposed (especially with a -0.3 EV compensation applied), with good colors. At the wide-angle end, the lens suffers from considerable barrel distortion."

Fujifilm FinePix F50fdThe Online Photographer post a quick look at the new Fujifilm FinePix F50fd and wonder whether more megapixels is actually better? "Here's a first: a digital camera that has appreciated in value. That's right: if you had bought a truck full of new Fuji F30/31 cameras and just parked it in a warehouse for a year before selling them, you'd have no problem paying those holiday bills. Contrary to conventional wisdom ("Digital cameras always decrease in value when the successor model is introduced") those two discontinued Fujis have almost doubled in value since they were current."

Sony Alpha A700 Digital SLR Review

Sony Alpha A700DPReview have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Sony Alpha A700 Digital SLR - it's the second model released by Sony, after the A100 was released after the take-over of the Konica Minolta digital SLR division, and as such is the new version of the 7D. The A700 features a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, alpha lens mount, a weather resistant body, super steady shot (anti-shake sensor), dust reduction system, 5fps, 11 point focus, 3" screen, and dynamic range optimiser. The A700 is available for £889 with kit lens:

"One thing that is clear when you start shooting with the A700 is that Sony has worked hard on performance; it feels very responsive, button presses for menus or image playback occurring instantly and there's no feeling of lag when changing settings. Other performance criteria such as continuous shooting speed, buffering and write speeds were all very good, with a pretty blazing 34 MB/sec write speed with SanDisk Extreme IV cards."

Leica M8 Rangefinder Review

Leica M8 Rangefinder in BlackLuminous Landscape have published another review of the new 10 megapixel Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder. The M8 is available in Black or Black and Silver, the Leica M8 is Leica's first digital rangefinder. It features a 2.5" screen, and has a number of lenses and accessories available for it. The M8 is available from Amazon:

"Still, even though I would be limited in my profession if I could only shoot my P30, or my Canons, or my Nikons, there really is room in my work for this quirky little Leica. I love cameras that are strange and force me to see the world just a little bit differently than I did yesterday, because that’s what photography is all about, seeing the world just a little bit differently."

The A700 is available for £889 with kit lens:

"The images the A700 produces have a lovely tonality. With DRO Advanced set to mid-level - I switched between 2 and 3 setting depending on subject matter - the contrast and saturation for most situations is just outstanding with impressively wide dynamic range. And I find the white balance in challenging lighting situations to be very effective."

The Z100fd is available for £148 in satin silver, tuxedo black, cappucino brown, and shell pink:

"The Fujifilm Finepix Z100fd is a surprisingly good point-and-shoot digital camera. It's stylish enough to appeal to the fashion-conscious, built well enough to survive a few bumps and scrapes, and offers enough features to appeal to both beginners and more experienced photographers alike. The 5x zoom lens in particular sets the Z100fd apart from the vast majority of affordable compacts, which usually offer a bog-standard 3x zoom."

Olympus EVOLT E-3 Digital SLR Review

Olympus EVOLT E-3Photoreview have reviewed of the new Olympus E-3 Digital SLR. Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Review

Fujifilm FinePix S8000fdDPReview have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd - an 8 megapixel digital camera with a huge wide angle 18x optical zoom lens, much like the SP-550UZ and FZ18, however with a slightly wider zoom range (27 - 486mm equiv), the digital camera features a 2.5" screen, digital and mechanical image stabilistion (CCD sensor shift), ISO upto 1600 (at full resolution), 3200 and 6400 (at 4mp), Xd / SD card support, face detection, and VGA 30fps video support. Nikon D300 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D300PopPhoto have reviewed the new Nikon D300 Digital SLR - it features a 12.3 megapixel sensor, 6 fps (8 fps with optional battery) shooting, dust reduction, live view modes, 3" screen, weather resistant seals, and ISO upto 3200. The D300 is available from Amazon for £1220:

"A major factor in the D300's stellar image quality is the new Sony-made 12.3MP (effective) CMOS sensor that captures RAW data with up to 14 bits of color per red, green, and blue channels. Most other DSLRs in this class only provide 12 bits per channel. This gives the D300 an advantage in reproducing fine color gradations, shadow details, and wider dynamic range. But it also increases the file size of images recorded in the 14-bit mode (selectable over normal 12-bit RAW)."

Pentax K10D Digital SLR Review

The feature-laden K10D introduces Sensitivity Priority, adds a dedicated RAW button near the lens mount, captures direct DNG files, and allows users to process RAW files in the camera. Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Review

Fujifilm FinePix S8000fdDigital Camera Review have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd - an 8 megapixel digital camera with a huge wide angle 18x optical zoom lens, much like the SP-550UZ and FZ18, however with a slightly wider zoom range (27 - 486mm equiv), the digital camera features a 2.5" screen, digital and mechanical image stabilistion (CCD sensor shift), ISO upto 1600 (at full resolution), 3200 and 6400 (at 4mp), Xd / SD card support, face detection, and VGA 30fps video support. The S8000fd is available for £189:

"The Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd offers an amazing focal range in a relatively compact and lightweight digital camera package. The standard auto and programmed scene options make this a camera that any novice can operate with a high degree of probability to produce technically good images, while at the same time providing full manual controls to allow more experienced users to set more defined shooting parameters. Image quality looks good at smaller sizes, but seems to drop off a bit as enlargements approach 100%"

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 Review Online!

Panasonic FZ18We've just published our review of the new Panasonic Lumix FZ18 - an update to the FZ8, the FZ18 is an ultra zoom digital camera featuring a massive Leica wide-angle 18x optical zoom lens, with the same zoom range as the Olympus SP-550UZ, the FZ18 has an 8 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, new "Intelligent Auto mode", and ISO upto 1600. It is available for £265:

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 is an impressive ultra zoom digital camera - and probably the best of the latest ultra zoom cameras thanks to the Leica wide angle 18x optical zoom lens - I didn't notice any vignetting or distortion and image quality is very good with great colour and detail although noise and lack of detail at the higher ISO settings causes some concern."

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 also allows you to shoot RAW files should you wish to do so, something that many super-zooms fail to offer alongside JPEG, so its features can't really be faulted. Plus, unless going for a particular mood whereby you'll want to override settings, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18's 'auto everything' Intelligent Auto Mode arguably produces results as good as, if not better, than most of us could achieve via hands-on adjustment."

Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Review

Fujifilm FinePix S8000fdDPReview have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd - an 8 megapixel digital camera with a huge wide angle 18x optical zoom lens, much like the Olympus SP-550UZ, however with a slightly wider zoom range (27 - 486mm equiv), the digital camera features a 2.5" screen, digital and mechanical image stabilistion (CCD sensor shift), ISO upto 1600 (at full resolution), 3200 and 6400 (at 4mp), Xd / SD card support, face detection, and VGA 30fps video support. "In all, the S8000fd an interesting attempt at a do-everything camera - with a lens that is usefully wide-angle as well as incredibly long, a good flash and everything from useable manual controls to 'auction mode.' And it does everything reasonably well, even if it doesn't excel in any particular area."

Canon EOS 1Ds MKIII Digital SLR Review

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark IIILuminous Landscape have tested the new Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III Digital SLR in Madagascar - the camera features a full frame 21.1 megapixel CMOS Sensor and dual DIGIC III image processors, 5fps shooting, 19 point AF, EOS sensor cleaning, two Live view modes, a dustproof and waterproof body, it takes compact flash and SDHC memory cards and has a 3" screen:

"The 1Ds MKIII continues Canon's deserved reputation for ruggedness. If you can take it, the camera likely can as well. I experienced no bugs, hiccups or anything else that prevented me from ever getting a shot. If I didn't get it it was my fault, not the camera's. Battery life is phenomenal. High ISO image quality is as good as I've seen from any other camera, and better than most."

Sony Alpha A700 Digital SLR Review

Sony Alpha A700DCResource have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Sony Alpha A700 Digital SLR - it's the second model released by Sony, after the A100 was released after the take-over of the Konica Minolta digital SLR division, and as such is the new version of the 7D.

"Photo quality was excellent in most respects. The A700 took photos with pleasing, saturated colors. Photos are a bit on the soft side, which is typical of D-SLRs, though that's easy enough to fix if it bothers you. Noise isn't really a problem when you're shooting JPEGs -- instead, you'll get noise reduction artifacting, but not until ISO 1600 and above. If you're shooting at those sensitivities, you will get more detail out of your photos by shooting RAW instead."

Pentax Optio E40 Review

Pentax Optio E40Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Pentax Optio E40 - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.4" screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries. The Pentax Optio E40 is available for £73

"The Pentax Optio E40 comes fairly equipped and for a good price. It's simple to shoot - with 8.1 megapixel resolution, a 2.4 inch LCD, and 3x optical zoom. It's powered by AA batteries, which provide good life, and it even has a face detection AF/AE system. And, it's available for under $150. Image quality with the E40 was what you'll find in a lot of cheaper cameras - they do ok with outdoor shots, but not great with indoor shots."

Nikon Coolpix S510 Review

Nikon Coolpix S510Pocket Lint have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S510, a compact stainless steel 8 megapixel digital camera, with a 3x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, 2.5" screen, ISO2000 and face-priority focus. The S510 is available for £161, in silver, or black.

"Overall, the S510 marks a small step up in terms of performance, image quality, resolution and processing but it is also a step down in terms of user control but there’s an ace in the hole that I’ve not mentioned yet. And is its price. At £199.99, it is £50 cheaper than the introductory price of the S500 and makes it a very competitive camera indeed."

Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS SD870 Review

IXUS 860 ISTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS / Powershot SD870 IS Digital Elph - an update to the 850 IS / SD800 - it's a compact 8 megapixel digital camera, and features a 3.8x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, a 3" screen, and DIGIC III processor. The IXUS 860 is available for £203:

"The Canon IXUS 860 IS is an expensive camera for an 8MP pocket compact, but it justifies it with stylish design, exceptional build quality, class-leading performance and outstanding picture quality. Its wide zoom range provides greater versatility than most other compacts, and it turns in excellent results in virtually any situation."

"The Canon PowerShot G9 is not the perfect compact camera but getting close. Maybe the Canon G10 will be it. We would like larger wide angle, less pixels (indeed you read it correctly!), improved RAW support and additional features such as wireless operation. Other than these items not much else has to be altered. For now I am very pleased with the Canon G9 and it's about time to go out again and start photographing with this camera."
