Top 10 Digital Camera Hits of 2008 So Far...

Fujifilm FinePix S9600 S9100We're half way through 2008 so I thought it would be interesting to have a look back at the 10 most popular digital cameras reviewed on this site. Here's the top 10 most read digital camera reviews from 2008 (so far), with a breakdown on what makes them special. Why not leave a comment letting us know your favourite digital camera of 2008, and why you think it's so great?

1 - Fujifilm FinePix S9600 S9100 - Fuji's digital camera proves you don't have to be a DSLR to be popular, but looking like one, and offering a powerful wide angle 10.7x optical zoom lens with manual controls sure helps. Especially when this costs less than half the price of a basic 10 megapixel Digital SLR. Available for £199. Updated by the S100fs.

2 - Panasonic Lumix FZ18 - an update to the FZ8, the FZ18 is an ultra zoom digital camera featuring a massive wide-angle 18x optical zoom lens, the FZ18 has an 8 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, new "Intelligent Auto mode", and ISO upto 1600. It's available for £199.

3 - Sony Ericsson K800i - when this mobile phone was released it had a 3 megapixel Sony "Cybershot" digital camera - the first "Cybershot" on a mobile phone. But more importantly, it had a proper flash, which meant it was able to take photos of people indoors, something most mobile phones still cant do properly. The K800i is still available on pay as you go for £89 or Sim Free.

Fuji F40fd4 - Fujifilm FinePix F40fd - Fuji upped the megapixels to 8, and made this camera smaller and more stylish than the F30, and we're still wondering whether it's as good as the F30, however, the price definitely makes this camera appealling, especially when the F30 is no longer available. Available for £96 at Amazon.

5 - Canon Digital IXUS 70 SD1000 - Canon made the smallest IXUS camera yet, and still packed in a 7 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen, all in a stylish body. The price is good as well, being one of the cheapest IXUS cameras available, only £126 from Amazon.

6 - Panasonic Lumix FX30 - a compact 7 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 3.6x optical zoom lens, image stabilisation, and a 2.5" screen, made this an appealling camera, especially when it was much cheaper than most of the competition. Available for £148 from Amazon.

7 - Fujifilm FinePix F480 - a compact 8 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens, and a 2.7" screen, the low price made this an appealling camera, however it's image quality didn't. Available for £87 from Amazon.

8 - Fujifilm FinePix F30 - Fuji showed us that less equals more, by putting a slightly larger 6 megapixel sensor in this camera, and using Fuji's SuperCCD technology, they were able to offer great low light performance, and low noise at nearly all ISO settings. No longer available, but updated by the F100fd.

9 - Olympus EVOLT E-510 - the digital SLR of 2007 - it has it all, 10 megapixels, live view, in body anti-shake sensor, dust reduction, excellent kit lenses, and above all, produces excellent images. Available for £384 with kit lens, or £455 with the twin lens kit.

10 - Canon EOS 400D DSLR - Canon's entry level 10 megapixel digital camera is one of the most popular Digital SLRs currently available, with a 2.5" screen, and bargain prices, Highly Recommended. Available for £394 with kit lens.
