Nikon Coolpix P60 Review

Nikon P60Photography BLOG have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P60 - it's part of their "Peformance" range - it features a 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, a 2.5" screen, and is available in Black for £144.

"Still, the Nikon Coolpix P60 is indeed intuitive to use, delivers flattering results under most conditions and offers an outward air of sophistication that few models in its price bracket can muster. So, if you're in the market for an undemanding and relatively frill-free snapshot pocket camera, and given that our complaints are fairly minor and surmountable, it earns a PhotographyBLOG recommendation."

Olympus EVOLT E-3 Digital SLR Review

Olympus EVOLT E-3Buy-n-shoot have published a review of the new top of the range E-3 professional Olympus Digital SLR - the camera features a 10 megapixel LiveMOS / Live view sensor, "World's fastest autofocus* for quick and precise image capture", 5fps sequential shooting with 19 image RAW buffer, built-in image stabiliser, 2.5" swivel screen, Shadow Adjustment Technology, dust reduction system (Supersonic Wave Filter), Splashproof body and lens system, High sensitivity (ISO 100-3200), and 11 point AF. Nikon Coolpix P80 Review

Nikon P80Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P80 Ultra Zoom digital camera - it features a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27-486mm equivalent), 10 megapixel sensor, sensor-shift vibration reduction, 2.7" screen, ISO6400, 1cm macro mode, and Distortion control corrects for barrel distortion. The Nikon Coolpix P80 is available for £233:

"Image and color quality are good, as is shutter lag, but AF acquisition times are average at best. ISO performance is typical for most cameras in the class. Continuous shooting rates at full resolution are typical; speedy rates are only available at reduced image sizes. Flash recycle times look to be average to slightly below average for the class."

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review Online!

Canon A590 ISWe've just published our review of the new Canon Powershot A590 IS - like the A580 it features an 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries - but adds full manual controls, support for optional lens accessories, and optical image stabilisation. The A590 is available for £112 making it the cheapest Canon available with optical image stabilisation, and possibly one of the best budget cameras of 2008 so far.

"The Canon Powershot A590 IS is a robust compact camera that provides an impressive 2.5" LCD screen, 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens and image stabilisation. Image quality is generally very good, and although noise is quite high compared to the competition, images are useable up to ISO400 and tend to maintain good detail. The camera's screen works well and battery life is excellent. Overall this is an appealing camera offering excellent value for money, and a number of features that should suit beginners as well as experts."

Canon EOS 450D Digital Rebel XSi DSLR Review

Canon EOS 450DDCResource have reviewed the new Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi - a 12.2 megapixel update to the 400D - it features 3.5fps shooting, live view shooting, 9 point AF, 3" screen, SD memory card support, and Canon's dust reduction system. The 450D Body only is priced at £429, the EOS 450D with 18-55mm IS kit is £473.

"The Canon EOS Rebel XSi is a very good entry-level digital SLR. It offers very good photo quality (with the appropriate tweaks), lighting fast performance, live view, and a large LCD display. The camera has its share of flaws, though, including soft JPEGs at default settings, redeye, sluggish contrast detect autofocus, and a rather high price. Still, the Rebel XSi is a solid choice for those looking for their first SLR, and thus, it earns my recommendation."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35 Review

Panasonic FX35Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35 - the camera features a wide angle 25mm 4x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 10 megapixel sensor, and 2.5" screen. The camera is available for £189 in silver, black and blue:

"The Panasonic FX35 demonstrates just how much technology can be squeezed into even the tiniest camera bodies. It combines terrific build quality and aesthetic design with a class-leading wide-angle lens, decent performance, exceptionally good low light performance. Only the slightly annoying high-ISO noise prevents it scoring 10/10 in this area."

Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR Review

Sony A350Steves-Digicams have reviewed the new 14.2 megapixel Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR - the camera features a live view 2.7" swivel screen, in body image stabilisation, anti-dust sensor coating, ISO3200, 2.5fps shooting, and dynamic range optimisation. The camera is available now for £439 with lens:

"Sony's "top of the line" entry-level Alpha 350 or DSLR-A350 is an outstanding camera. In this saturated market, consumers really have a lot of great cameras to choose from, all at competitive pricing. At about US$899 or less as tested, I feel the A350 offers a great value for such a well balanced camera. The Live View performance offered by the A350 is way ahead of its competitors."

Ricoh GX200 Review at Photography BLOG

Ricoh GX200Photography BLOG have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Ricoh GX200 - it features a wide angle 24mm 3x optical zoom lens, vibration correction, 1cm macro, ISO1600, and a 2.7" screen. The GX200 with electronic viewfinder included, is available for £399, the GX200 Standard will be available for £349.

"The Ricoh GX200 builds on the success of an already unique and very capable camera, the GX100, adding a small number of significant new features and a larger number of "nice-to-haves". By far the most important improvement is the operational speed of RAW mode. The 6 second file write time and lack of continuous shooting offered by the GX100 has thankfully been replaced by near-instantenous write times in single-shot mode and the ability to shoot up to 5 RAW images at 2fps in continuous mode."

Olympus Mju Stylus 1010 1020 Review

Olympus Mju Stylus 1020Buy-n-shoot have reviewed the new Olympus Mju Stylus 1010 and 1020. The 1020 and 1010 features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 7x optical zoom lens, 2.7" screen, 23 scene modes, VGA 30fps movie mode, and dual image stabilisation featuring both high ISO settings, and an anti-shake sensor. The Mju 1010 is available for £154:

"Overall, operating the Mju 1020 is delightfully straightforward (particularly if you have smaller hands) meaning that taking, reviewing, sorting, editing and deleting photos is a breeze, as too is selecting and using the various modes available. In-built technologies ensure that point-and-shoot operation is virtually failsafe so for those wanting to let the camera do the majority of the work, the Mju 1020 is bound to suit."

Ricoh GX200 Review at Trusted Reviews

Ricoh GX200Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new 12 megapixel Ricoh GX200 - it features a wide angle 24mm 3x optical zoom lens, vibration correction, 1cm macro, ISO1600, and a 2.7" screen. The GX200 with electronic viewfinder included, is available for £399, the GX200 Standard will be available for £349.

"Ricoh has tried to make a camera for the enthusiast photographer, a camera that the pro or enthusiast could slip into his pocket for a day and make sure he can still get a great shot. Design-wise, the company has pulled it off. The tough little camera is a beauty to hold and a joy to use, and I couldn't wait to see the pictures. It's the imaging aspect that's a disappointment though, and really lets the camera and Ricoh's ambitions down. The 12MP sensor and processing combination is frankly poor."

Sony Cybershot DSC-W300 Review

Sony Cybershot DSC-W300DPExpert have reviewed the new 13.6 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-W300 - the W300 has a Scratch-resistant titanium coating, Smile Shutter, improved Face Detection and D-Range Optimiser, a 3x optical zoom lens, ISO 6400, a 2.7-inch (230k dot) screen, and Super Steady Shot, the camera is available for £199:

"At 100 per cent enlargement there is some evidence of noise reduction blurring of fine detail, but it is so well done that it is comparable with the best after-camera noise reduction software. OK, let’s go out on a limb here – this is the best compact that we have tested. The Sony W series has always been good, but this one is amazing."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ50 Review

Panasonic TZ50Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ50 - an update to the TZ5 - the TZ50 adds WIFI, T-Mobile HotSpot, and Picasa support on top of the cameras usual features of a wide angle 28mm 10x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 9 megapixel sensor, and 3.0" screen. The camera will be available soon.

"When everything is said and done, although the TZ50 allows you to wirelessly upload your images to your Picasa web gallery the process isn’t nearly as easy as it might sound. Since the TZ5 can be purchased for a full $100 less than the TZ50, I suspect most average consumers will be happier uploading images the “old fashioned way” directly from their desktop or laptop computers rather than stumbling through the clunky Wi-Fi interface on the TZ50."

Pentax K20D Digital SLR Review

Pentax K20D DSLRDPReview have published their review of the new Pentax K20D Digital SLR - the camera, which shares a lot of DNA with the Samsung GX20, features a 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor, with live-view, Expanded Dynamic Range, Dust Reduction, Shake Reduction, a dust-proof, weather-resistant body, 11 point AF, and ISO upto 6400. The Pentax K20D is available for £669 body only:

"The Pentax K20D could be seen as a K10D Mk2, a camera that attempts to move on while putting right the minor flaws in its predecessor. And in that respect, it's a huge success. The K20D builds on the strengths of its forebear and corrects for the issue that plagued us most."

Digital Camera Makers Create Confusion

Canon IXUS 90 ISDigital Home Thoughts have published an article entitled: "How Digital Camera Makers Create Consumer Confusion" - the article explains that camera manufacturers offer too many variations of the same camera, or so little difference between different camera models, that consumers are confused as to which model is actually best for them.

"Here's a radical idea: how about fewer product choices, released less often (say, only when there's really been an improvement in the technology)? What about releasing new cameras that are actually significantly better than previous generations? It's so crazy, it just might work."

Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd Review

Fuji Z20fdTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new ultra compact Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd - the camera features a 10 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, MPEG-4 VGA video mode, ISO upto 1600, and face detection focus. It is available in Ice Blue, Sable Black, Chrome Green, Champagne Pink and Diablo Red from £108

"The Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd is designed to appeal to a particular demographic, and will probably find itself living in a small fashionable handbag next to a pink Motorola Razr mobile phone. For under £90 it delivers eye-catching style, durable build quality and simplicity of operation, along with reasonable performance and some fun features."

Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Review

Fuji F100fdImaging Resource have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F100fd - the new "top of the range" F series camera features a 12 megapixel sensor, a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.7" screen, Wide Dynamic Range, Dual Image Stabilisation (anti-shake sensor), Face Detection 3.0 Technology, and ISO upto 12800(at 3mp). The Fuji F100fd is available for £160:

"The Fujifilm FinePix F100fd is capable in a variety of situations, typically getting good color and exposure even under harsh lighting conditions. Its performance is limited indoors, however, with poor low light results and limited flash range. Still, as an outdoor camera, the FinePix F100fd records some amazing resolution for such a small camera."

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review

Canon A590 ISPhotography BLOG have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A590 IS - like the A580 it features an 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries - but adds full manual controls, support for optional lens accessories, and optical image stabilisation. The A590 is available for £112 making it the cheapest Canon available with optical image stabilisation:

"Also, for a model aimed at beginners, features are surprisingly comprehensive, its response times – save for that rather sluggish zoom – pretty good, and it's nice to see true optical image stabilisation included as standard on a camera that costs what it does. The mainly plastic build is well disguised by a more professional looking finish overall, while, once batteries and card are inserted, the whole thing feels reassuringly solid and robust."

Pentax Optio V20 Review

Pentax Optio V20Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Pentax Optio V20 - a compact slim bodied 8 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens, 3" screen and face detection focus. The camera is available for £152:

"The Optio V20 is an attractively designed and well made ultra-compact camera, and the 5x zoom, large wide-view monitor screen and simple control interface make it versatile and pleasant to use, although it lacks a number of useful features, including effective image stabilisation. Image quality is generally good, although the limited low-light performance is a disadvantage."

Canon Digital IXUS 85 IS SD770 IS Review

Canon Digital IXUS 85 ISDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon Digital IXUS 85 IS / Powershot SD770 IS - the ultra compact camera features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, and a 2.5" screen, and an optical viewfinder, it will be available in silver or silver and black and promises 300 shots with the screen on, or 700 shots with the screen off. The camera is available for £162:

"I like the SD770 in no small part because I feel like it does arguably the best job of getting back to what Canon's whole ELPH compact camera concept was about in the first place: simplicity, style, and nice snapshots at a (compared to the higher-end SDs, at least) moderate price. And who can't get on board with that? The upgrades are logical, the price is right, and the styling is plenty chic."

"Overall, the Kodak Z1012 IS usually succeeds in producing nice pictures, but some parts of the camera just get in the way. At the end of the day for me, judging a camera comes down to its ability to produce a good image. On this score, this camera is generally a success."

Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E-420DPReview have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR - the E-420 is an update to the E-410 - it features a new live view auto focus mode, face detection focus, a new 2.7" screen, and is the world's most compact Digital SLR, especially when used with the new f2.8 25mm pancake lens. It is available for £339 body only, £404 with kit lens, £485 with double zoom kit, and £500 with 25mm lens kit.

"Olympus claims the E-420 is the smallest and lightest (only its predecessor is a few grams lighter) DSLR on the market and there is no doubt that this is true. The E-420 - especially in combination with the new 25mm F2.8 pancake lens - makes an extremely compact package. If you want a truly pocketable camera without losing DSLR image quality the E-420 should be right at the top of your shortlist."

Nikon D60 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D60Photoxels have reviewed the new Nikon D60 Digital SLR - an update to the D40x - it features a new dust reduction system, Eye-Sensor, a 10 megapixel sensor, 3fps shooting, takes SD cards, 520 shots battery life, 2.5" screen, however still has the same limitations, in that it doesn't feature exposure braketing, and requires AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR lenses. However, one of the main benefits of the D60 is that it's now available with a new Nikkor AF-S 18-55 DX II VR lens for only £419.

"The Nikon D60 DSLR is an excellent Family DSLR for photographers tired of the limitations of Point-and-Shoot digital cameras. It is a compact and lightweight DSLR with the performance and responsiveness characteristic of much more expensive digital SLRs."

Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom Review

"Bottom Line - the Olympus SP-570 UZ is a very capable 10.1-megapixel Ultra-zoom camera that offers a variety of very nice features, including an awesome 20x Wide optical zoom lens. The image quality was excellent both indoors and out. The one disappointment is that the performance has not gotten any better from the previous model."

Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 Review

Sony H50Imaging Resource have reviewed the new 9.1 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot H50 - which features a 15x optical zoom lens, a 3" screen which can tilt up and down, ISO up to 3200, and SD card support. The Cyber-shot DSC-H50 digital camera is available for £239

"There's a lot to like about the Sony H50. It fits the hand very well and isn't heavy enough to fatigue even a delicate wrist. It has a number of shooting modes to capitalize on its 15x optical zoom and fast shutter. Its one-button access to its slideshow mode is handy, especially considering how good the slideshows can be."

"The picture quality is very good and the full feature list is truly impressive. Other makers tend to leave functions out in order to distance the entry level cameras from their posher units – Olympus doesn’t do that. The live view arrangement is almost refined. At least the auto focus works reasonably quickly, but it is not something we would use often."

Nikon Coolpix S550 Review

Nikon S550Photodoto have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S550 - it's part of their "Style" range - it features a 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and is available in Titanium Silver, Urban Black and blue. The Nikon Coolpix S550 is available for £149

"Overall I would certainly recommend this camera to a friend, it’s a good all round camera with plenty of features for those who want to experiment or the option to just point and shoot for those who like to keep it simple. The battery charged quickly and has yet to require a re-charge, the LCD screen is a good size (2.5 inches diagonally) to see what you’re photographing, and the lack of sliders, knobs, or other twiddly bits means it’s a reasonably easy camera for someone like me with reduced fine motor skills to use."

"The Panasonic FX35 is a well-built digicam with an impressive piece of glass, the Leica DC-Vario Elmarit that starts at a very wide 25mm equivalent and extends 4x to 100mm. Unfortunately that was where the fun stopped. The Panasonic FX35's menu system is painful to use, and basic functions like digital zoom are awkward or simply not functional."

Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-570UZLetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom. It features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, a 10 megapixel sensor, 23 scene modes, 2.7" screen, 1cm macro mode, dual image stabilisation (high ISO and anti-shake sensor), and full manual controls. The SP-570 is available for £255

"The Olympus SP-570 UZ is a mature digital Megazoom camera with many setting possibilities. The camera has all-round features and will certainly also appeal to the more enhanced photographer. The concept is well thought-out and is supported by the experiences of several camera generations. Still Olympus seem to have reached their limits with what's possible at the present in relation to lens and high resolution, and I must admit that the concessions made in relation to the lens and signal/noise ratio are asking just a tad too much."

Nikon Coolpix S550 Review

Nikon S550Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S550 - it's part of their "Style" range - it features a 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, and is available in Titanium Silver, Urban Black and blue. The Nikon Coolpix S550 is available for £149

"The CoolPix S550 is a likeable little camera, very simple to operate and producing good results in most normal situations. It is solidly made and sensibly designed, and has very good handling despite its small size. The 5x zoom range gives it greater versatility than typical pocket compacts, and the electronic vibration reduction helps to cope with the longer telephoto end."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Review

Panasonic LZ10Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 - the cameras features a wide angle 32mm 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 8 megapixel sensor, and 2.5" screen. The camera is available for £129

"The Panasonic Lumix LZ8 is your standard entry-level point-and-shoot with a little twist: manual controls. It has solid basic specs: 8 megapixels, a 2.5-inch LCD screen with clear 230,000-pixel resolution. It handles well for a fairly small point-and-shoot, and has a wealth of Scene modes to cover nearly every shooting situation. In addition, it features face detection and optical image stabilization, a feature not often found on budget-models."

Sigma DP1 Review at Cameralabs

Sigma DP1Cameralabs have reviewed the new Sigma DP1. The Sigma DP1, first shown at Photokina, features the same full size 14 Megapixel Foveon sensor (2652 × 1768 × 3 layers) as featured in the Sigma SD14 Digital SLR, the camera has a 16.6mm lens, equivalent to 28mm, a 2.5" screen and a pop-up flash. The camera is available for £459:

"Detailed images, sharp lens and manual control – sounds great so far, right? Well it is, but now for those caveats. We hoped that having a DSLR-sized sensor would allow the DP1 to deliver DSLR-type quality at higher sensitivities. Sadly not. While the output at 400 and 800 ISO is considerably superior to modern compacts, it’s marred by significant chroma noise that’s below what you’d expect from a DSLR."

Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd Review

Fuji S1000fdDigital Camera Review have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd at Focus on Imaging 2008 - shown above with the lens set to telephoto - the new camera is the World's smallest 12x optical zoom lens digital camera - and features a 10 megapixel sensor, manual controls, ISO 1600 at full resolution, and a 2.7" screen. It takes 4 AA batteries and is available for £139:

"The S1000fd is obviously aimed at serious shooters, but it lacks some of the basic features that a photography enthusiast would expect – manual color, saturation, and contrast adjustments, for instance – plus it doesn't provide image stabilization."

Pentax K20D Digital SLR Review

Pentax K20D DSLRThinkCamera have published their review of the new Pentax K20D Digital SLR - the camera, which shares a lot of DNA with the Samsung GX20, features a 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor, with live-view, Expanded Dynamic Range, Dust Reduction, Shake Reduction, a dust-proof, weather-resistant body, 11 point AF, and ISO upto 6400. The Pentax K20D is available for £669 body only:

"All in all, the Pentax K20D is a decent camera with enough features to keep top-end enthusiasts, travel photographers and possibly even some pros happy. It's not the 14.6megapixel sensor that makes this the camera what it is, that almost doesn't matter - it's the combination of intuitive layout, functions and relative ease of use."

The Pentax Optio S12 is available for £163 in silver or black:

"Like its predecessors the Optio S12 is a very well made and easy to use camera, with a nice simple design that continues to look good even five years after its initial launch. Although it lacks image stabilisation, it makes up for it with numerous other fun and useful features. Performance is very good and it works well in low light, making it a good choice for a night out, as well as an excellent general snapshot camera."

Sony Alpha A200 Digital SLR Review

Sony Alpha A200 DSLRDigital Camera Review have reviewed the new Sony Alpha A200 Digital SLR, an update to the A100, the A200 features a 10.2 megapixel sensor, High sensitivity up to ISO3200, Enhanced Super SteadyShot, Large 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD, Faster, more accurate Auto Focus, and Optional vertical grip for portraits. The camera is available for £347 with kit lens.

"Image and color quality are good and there's a host of inputs available to customize image parameters if the default shots don't suit your fancy. The shutter is "DSLR quick" and auto focus performance is good in normal to marginal light, and acceptable in dim light. The camera posed a few annoying ergonomic quirks for my medium-sized hands, but overall it's well thought out and designed from a handling standpoint."

The W150 is available for £155:

Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder Field Test

Leica M8 Rangefinder in BlackMichael Kamber has tested the 10 megapixel Leica M8 Digital Rangefinder in Iraq. The M8 is available in Black or Black and Silver, the Leica M8 is Leica's first digital rangefinder. It features a 2.5" screen, and has a number of lenses and accessories available for it. The M8 is available from Amazon:

"When I put my 28mm lens (37mm equivalent) on the M8, the frame lines are quite loose. The image takes in considerably more than is shown in the frame lines. Of course rangefinders were never meant to frame as accurately as SLR’s. Yet the M8 frame lines are simply inaccurate."

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review

Nikon P80Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P80 Ultra Zoom digital camera - it features a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27-486mm equivalent), 10 megapixel sensor, sensor-shift vibration reduction, 2.7" screen, ISO6400, 1cm macro mode, and Distortion control corrects for barrel distortion. The Nikon Coolpix P80 is available for £233:

"The Coolpix P80 is an excellent first attempt at a super-zoom camera by Nikon, but it's ultimately let down by image quality that is worse than some of its main rivals. Nikon have worked hard to ensure that the P80 is competing on a level playing field, and the P80 looks and feels very similar to the offerings from Olympus, Fujifilm and Panasonic, with a near-identical feature-set."

Fujifilm FinePix S100fs Review

Fuji S100fsPhotoxels have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S100FS - an update to the S9600 / S9100 - the FS stands for Film Simulation. The camera features a wide angle 14.3x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation and 28mm-400mm equivalent range, an 11 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" tilt screen, ISO upto 6400 (at 6mp), extended dynamic range, RAW support, multi-bracketing, manual controls, and VGA 30fps video mode. The camera is available for £399:

"The Fujifilm FinePix S100fs is the "almost DSLR" Super Zoom. Not only does it handle and feel like a DSLR, it is also easy enough in point-and-shoot mode to obtain high quality images that are properly exposed and with pleasant colors. Two brand new features help with that: Extended Dynamic Range bracketing takes 3 shots with one click to retain detail in highlights; and, Film Simulation bracketing takes 3 shots with one click to simulate the type of attractive colors that Fujifilm 35mm films are famous for."

Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR Review

Sony A350Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new 14.2 megapixel Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR - the camera features a live view 2.7" swivel screen, in body image stabilisation, anti-dust sensor coating, ISO3200, 2.5fps shooting, and dynamic range optimisation. The camera is available now for £479 with lens:

"The Sony Alpha A350 is a superb camera, but anyone who was expecting a full professional DSLR like the A700 will be disappointed. Instead you get an A200 with the addition of live view and a massive 14.2-megapixel sensor. The live view system with fully-functioning AF and tilting monitor is much better than all its competitors, although its usefulness is limited by a sensor too dark for daylight use, and the annoying exposure preview that can't be turned off."

Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS SD890 IS Review

Canon IXUS 970Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS / Powershot SD890 IS - the camera features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, an optical viewfinder, and battery life of 320 shots with the screen on, or 800 shots with the screen off. The IXUS 970 is available for £205:

"A plastic body gives the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH a slightly different look and feel from any other ELPH model so far. On the inside, however, not much has changed. The camera is still incredibly easy to operate, and the quality is what you would expect from a high-end consumer model. The 5x optical zoom and the 10-megapixel imaging sensor are the largest you will find so far on an ELPH."

The camera is available will be available for £479 body only from June.

"In terms of overall approach, the E-520 may well be the most flexible consumer DSLR we've reviewed this year: whereas the Nikon D60 proved to be an excellent first SLR, and new models from Canon and Pentax have aimed to appeal to a slightly more advanced audience, the E-520 does both at once."

Sony Cybershot DSC-T300 Review

Sony T300Cameras.co.uk have reviewed the new Sony Cybershot DSC-T300 - an ultra compact 10 megapixel digital camera, it features a 5x optical zoom lens, Advanced Face Detection and Smile Shutter, Dual Anti-blur with Super SteadyShot image stabilisation and High Sensitivity ISO 3200, Intelligent Scene Recognition, and a wide 3.5-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus touchscreen. The T300 is available for £220:

"On the positive side, the T300 has a lot of features that will benefit its target audience. Image stabilization and dynamic range optimization will help produce better photographs for the user that is thinking more about capturing the moment rather than assessing the implications of the scene's lighting. There are also some useful post-processing effects (In-camera unsharp masking), as well as the flagrantly gimmicky ones (Apply 'Happy faces')."

Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-570UZPhotography BLOG have reviewed the new Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom. The SP-570 is available for £259

"The main selling point of the camera is the huge zoom, and this is one area where the SP-570UZ doesn't disappoint. So long as you steer clear of f/8, the lens delivers excellent sharpness across its entire range. The zoom action can be jerky at times, but ditching the zoom lever in favour of a zoom ring was definitely a step in the right direction."

Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E420Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR and pancake lens - the E-420 is an update to the E-410 - it features a new live view auto focus mode, face detection focus, a new 2.7" screen, and is the world's most compact Digital SLR, especially when used with the new f2.8 25mm pancake lens. It is available for £339 body only, £404 with kit lens, £485 with double zoom kit, and £449 with 25mm lens kit.

"With plenty of detail on offer in the images, and even the natural colour setting providing more 'pep' than we're used to seeing from Olympus, the E-420 maintains the good work laid down by its predecessors. So while existing owners don't have quite a compelling enough reason to upgrade, those buying into the Olympus Four Thirds system now will get a reliable performer at a bargain price. Beginners will also relish the ease of use and the lack of bulk and weight normally associated with a DSLR."

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review

Canon A590 ISTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A590 IS - like the A580 it features an 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries - but adds full manual controls, support for optional lens accessories, and optical image stabilisation. The A590 is available for £115 making it the cheapest Canon available with optical image stabilisation:

"Considering its low price, the PowerShot A590 IS offers an amazingly complete list of features, with high-performance optical image stabilisation, a useful range of manual controls and exceptionally good performance, especially in low light conditions. Build quality and handling are also well above the average for this price bracket."

Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR Review

Sony A350DPReview have reviewed the new 14.2 megapixel Sony Alpha A350 Digital SLR - the camera features a live view 2.7" swivel screen, in body image stabilisation, anti-dust sensor coating, ISO3200, 2.5fps shooting, and dynamic range optimisation. The camera is available now for £479 with lens:

"The biggest reservations we have about this camera, though, relate to its image quality. On paper and when shooting resolution charts, the A350 is an impressive performer but that prowess doesn't always hold up when you step outside the studio. The default JPEG output from the A350 is distinctly soft (and this is exacerbated when coupled with the rather below-par 18-70 kit lens), though detail is being recorded and can be recovered if you're willing to shoot in RAW and post-process."

Sony Cybershot W300 Samsung NV24HD Review

Sony Cybershot DSC-W300Luminous Landscape have reviewed the new 13.6 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-W300, and compared it to the Samsung NV24HD - the W300 has a Scratch-resistant titanium coating, Smile Shutter, improved Face Detection and D-Range Optimiser, a 3x optical zoom lens, ISO 6400, a 2.7-inch (230k dot) screen, and Super Steady Shot, the camera is available for £209:

"But then, after just a few hours of shooting with the W300 my thoughts were – How come nobody is talking about how astonishingly good this little camera is? Image quality is really fine up to ISO 400 on Super A3 sized prints, or even larger. Quite remarkable."

Polaroid Pogo Mini Zink Printer Review

Polaroid PogoGizmodo have reviewed the new Polaroid Pogo mini Zink printer - it prints small 3 inch by 2 inch stickers that dry instantly using Zink paper with built in ink and can print from USB and Bluetooth devices, such as a digital camera or mobile phone.

"Though, like you, I wasn't totally sure about the PoGo, after using it, I was surprised at how promising and unique the little gadget is. It solves the biggest problem with taking pictures on cellphones, the fact that you can't look at them anywhere besides your phone. The credit-card size prints look decent enough for what they are."

Sigma DP1 Review at ThinkCamera

Sigma DP1ThinkCamera have reviewed the new Sigma DP1. The camera is available for £535:

"The Sigma DP1 is not a pleasant camera to use. In many ways it feels like a throw-back to the bad old days when compacts were in their infancy. Responsive is not a word you would use for this unit. But then, just as you are ready to throw the camera away you see the picture and you love it. RAW files have astonishing latitude for post camera processing and the included software does a good job of turning RAW into TIFF or JPEG files."

Nikon Coolpix S600 Review

Nikon S600NeoCamera have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S600 - it's part of their "Style" range - it features a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, a 2.7" screen, and is available in Titanium Silver and Urban Black. The Nikon Coolpix S600 is available for £209

"Overall, this ultra-compact delivers a performance which is good on image quality but behind in terms of speed. Good sharpness and a fine noise pattern deliver quite usable images up to ISO 800. Beyond that, noise and noise-reduction destroys colors and details. Speed is on the slow side when we look at the most important aspects: shutter-lag, focusing and shot-to-shot speeds."

Ricoh R8 Review at DPExpert

Ricoh Caplio R8DPExpert have reviewed the new Ricoh Caplio R8. The R8 is a 10 megapixel update to the R7 - it features a newly designed body available in black or silver, a wide angle 7.1x optical zoom lens (28 - 200mm equivalent), image stabilisation, ISO 1600, 2.7" screen with 460k pixels, and a 1cm macro mode. The camera is available in Silver, Two-tone Silver and Black or Black for £225:

"We subjected the Ricoh R8 to the tourist test – taking it around town snapping the sorts of things that any traveller might photograph in a foreign city. The results are consistently good, helped in no small part by the outstanding, distortion-free lens. There are plenty of noise reduction artefacts visible at full image size, so this is not a camera for making A3 prints or for severe cropping of the picture."

It is incredibly easy to use with several automatic shooting modes to assist you in difficult situations (not to mention a very handy Smile Shutter mode). The quality of our images was very good, as was the video. At about US$230 or less, this is not a bad deal for what you are getting."

Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E420LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR and pancake lens - the E-420 is an update to the E-410 - it features a new live view auto focus mode, face detection focus, a new 2.7" screen, and is the world's most compact Digital SLR, especially when used with the new f2.8 25mm pancake lens. It is available for £339 body only, £404 with kit lens, £485 with double zoom kit, and £449 with 25mm lens kit.

"However, if we look solely at what we discovered in practice with the addition of the technical DIWA test results, we can only conclude that the Olympus E-420 is very close to the E-3 as far as image quality is concerned, an excellent performance."

Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS SD890 IS Review

Canon IXUS 970Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS / Powershot SD890 IS - the camera features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, an optical viewfinder, and battery life of 320 shots with the screen on, or 800 shots with the screen off. The IXUS 970 is available for £205:

"Overall, it was a pleasure to shoot the Canon SD890 IS. It's an attractive little camera that makes a great companion wherever you go. If you need a quality pocket digital camera with a long zoom, the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS is a fine choice, and a Dave's Pick."

Nikon D60 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D60Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new Nikon D60 Digital SLR - an update to the D40x - it features a new dust reduction system, Eye-Sensor, a 10 megapixel sensor, 3fps shooting, takes SD cards, 520 shots battery life, 2.5" screen, however still has the same limitations, in that it doesn't feature exposure braketing, and requires AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR lenses. However, one of the main benefits of the D60 is that it's now available with a new Nikkor AF-S 18-55 DX II VR lens for only £419.

"The VR lens is a big step up from previous inexpensive Nikons, but the competition is selling cameras with anti-shake technology built into the camera body at roughly the same price (including the Sony A200 at $600 and the Pentax K200D at $799). Imaging performance shines when it comes to noise, and the responsiveness while shooting is exceptional for a camera in this class."

Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-570UZPhotoReview have reviewed the new Olympus SP-570 Ultra Zoom. It features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, a 10 megapixel sensor, 23 scene modes, 2.7" screen, 1cm macro mode, dual image stabilisation (high ISO and anti-shake sensor), and full manual controls. The SP-570 is available for £246

"Test shots taken with the SP570 UZ showed the same slightly warm colour cast as we found in our tests of the E-420. JPEG images looked bright and detailed and, aside from the warm bias, most colours were natural looking and contrast was not overly high. Edge softening was not obvious but corner softening was visible in some test shots (and picked up in Imatest testing)."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 Review

Casio F1Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 - the camera features a 6 megapixel CMOS sensor, CMOS shift anti-shake, 12x optical zoom lens, 2.8" screen, ISO 100 - 1600, 60fps shooting at full resolution, a slow motion view, rapid flash allowing 7fps shooting with flash on, RAW shooting, stereo microphone, Full HD 1920 × 1080 video recording, and 300 fps, 600 fps or 1,200 fps movie recording!

"The Casio Exilim EX-F1 is a unique camera, and one which may herald a new generation of hybrid still/video cameras. It has several unique abilities which some users will find extremely useful, however it also has some problems. Its still image quality, while good, is no match for the best of the current high spec super-zooms, and its alarmingly high price will also discourage potential buyers."

Olympus FE-340 Review at TR

Olympus FE-340Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Olympus FE-340 - an ultra slim 8 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens, 2.7" screen, 18 scene modes, and VGA movie mode at 30fps. It is available in pink, blue, black and silver from £119:

"The Olympus FE-340 may be very cheap, but it lacks a number of features that would be considered standard on most other cameras, such as continuous shooting, colour adjustment and image stabilisation. The build quality is good, and the LCD monitor is outstanding, but the styling is awkward and ungainly and the handling could be better."

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 Review

Casio Z80DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z80 - an 8 megapixel digital cameras with a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.7" screen, auto shutter function, and face detection. The Casio Z80 is available for £97

"Slotted into the middle of the Exilim "zoom" line of cameras, at least price-wise, the EX-Z80 appears competitive in image quality with other brands in this class. Whether this will be enough to draw buyers from more established names in the field remains to be seen, but for a camera that carries a suggested price under $200, the EX-Z80 generally acquits itself pretty well."

Canon EOS 450D Rebel XSi DSLR Review

Canon EOS 450DDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi - a 12.2 megapixel update to the 400D - it features 3.5fps shooting, live view shooting, 9 point AF, 3" screen, SD memory card support, and Canon's dust reduction system. The 450D Body only is priced at £439, the EOS 450D with 18-55mm IS kit is £499.

"The XSi is more of an evolution than a revolution; the new features it adds over previous Digital Rebels are useful (and generally well executed), but none of them add that much to the experience of using the camera. The live view makes point-and-shooters feel more at home, but focusing in that mode is a pain, as the camera has to flip the mirror back up to meter. The increase in resolution is also nice, but 10 to 12 megapixels is not a huge leap. And the optical image stabilization on the kit lens is definitely a good addition, but there are plenty of other SLRs that offer similar features."

Nikon D60 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D60DCResource have reviewed the new Nikon D60 Digital SLR - an update to the D40x - it features a new dust reduction system, Eye-Sensor, a 10 megapixel sensor, 3fps shooting, takes SD cards, 520 shots battery life, 2.5" screen, however still has the same limitations, in that it doesn't feature exposure braketing, and requires AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR lenses. However, one of the main benefits of the D60 is that it's now available with a new Nikkor AF-S 18-55 DX II VR lens for only £419.

"The Nikon D60 is an entry-level digital SLR aimed squarely at consumers. It has a friendly interface with numerous help screens, in-camera photo editing, and very vivid color that borders on unrealistic. You also get a dust reduction system, snappy performance, Active D-Lighting, and solid build quality. There are quite a few downsides, though, including a limited selection of autofocus lenses, a small viewfinder, no live view, and poor bundled RAW editing software. The Nikon D60 isn't my favorite entry-level digital SLR -- mainly due to its soft, over-saturated photos -- but it's certainly worth a look."

Sigma DP1 Review at DPExpert

Sigma DP1DPExpert have reviewed the new Sigma DP1.

Fujifilm FinePix E900 Review

Fuji E900Serious Compacts have published their review of the 9 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix E900 - it features a 4x optical zoom lens, a 2" screen, RAW mode, manual controls and high ISO settings. The Fujifilm FinePix E900 is available for £110 / £99 from Amazon UK, and may be available for less on ebay.

"The good news is, the JPEGs from the E900 are good and sturdy - straight from the camera on 9M Fine setting, 'Chrome' colour setting (Fuji's version of 'Vivid' on other manufacturer's cameras) and Standard sharpness, they're good for a bit of Levels adjustment, a little USM and done. For Black & White, I tend to Channel Mix and then play with Curves to get things the way I like, and then just some sharpening."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 Review

Panasonic Lumix FX500Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 - the 10 megapixel camera features an ultra wide angle 25mm 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, a 3" touch screen, HD video recording and face detection focus. The FX500 is now available for £279

"The FX500 offers some serious power where exposure and processing control are concerned, and this fact alone largely puts to rest the idea that this camera can be written off as an object of PR hype. If an FX35 with full manual control and DSLR-style JPEG processing options appeals to you, here it is. Even without the touch screen, the FX500 would be breaking new ground."

Fujifilm FinePix J10 Review

Fuji J10Digital Camera Review have reviewed the new Fujifilm Finepix J10 - it is part of a new budget range of Fuji cameras - it features a 3x optical zoom lens, an 8 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, ISO upto 800, digital image stabilisation and VGA video mode. The camera is available in silver or black from £89:

"For the target market it is apparently aimed at, I think it hit the mark. This is an inexpensive camera that includes most of the needed features, without a lot of extra bells and whistles. I would not ponder whether to carry it or not: I would just pocket it. Also, as a beginner camera you would be hard pressed to beat it."

Fujifilm FinePix S100FS Review

Fuji S100fsOutbackphoto have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S100FS - an update to the S9600 / S9100 - the FS stands for Film Simulation.

"Coming from a DSLR background we are quite critical here. On the other side this camera features an amazing zoom range without switching lenses. If you learn to handle the CA and can live with the very slow write speed the S100FS can be a nice travel camera with a strong reach in the tele range."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 Review

Casio F1ePhotoZine have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 - the camera features a 6 megapixel CMOS sensor, CMOS shift anti-shake, 12x optical zoom lens, 2.8" screen, ISO 100 - 1600, 60fps shooting at full resolution, a slow motion view, rapid flash allowing 7fps shooting with flash on, RAW shooting, stereo microphone, Full HD 1920 × 1080 video recording, and 300 fps, 600 fps or 1,200 fps movie recording!

"With the cameras that Casio are now producing I think they're on their way to being a major contender in the hardware circuit sooner than we think. If you're looking for a backup prosumer with stupidly fast fps and want to mess around with slow motion film, take a look at the Casio EX-F1."

The IXUS 90 IS is available for £192:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 Review

Panasonic Lumix FX500Cameralabs have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 - the 10 megapixel camera features an ultra wide angle 25mm 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, a 3" touch screen, HD video recording and face detection focus. The FX500 is now available for £279

"The Panasonic Lumix FX500 is certainly a classy and feature-packed compact. The zoom range with unusually wide angle and decent telephoto capabilities is very flexible and the optical stabilisation is effective. The touch screen is fun and useful without becoming a novelty or slowing you down. The manual control is a welcome addition for enthusiasts and the Intelligent Auto is sufficiently good for many to trust it for most day-to-day shots."
