Slim Shot Design

A while ago I drew this sketch for a digital camera design that is in two parts, one part is the screen, and the other part is the lens and flash, using this design with a central hinge, it’s possible to fold the camera screen and lens away to protect it while it’s in your pocket, and then open it for use as a normal camera, and also fold the lens and screen towards you for self portrait photos. Click the image to enlarge. Have you ever sketched or designed a camera? Or wished a camera had a certain feature? If so, please post a comment or link to your design!

Ricoh GR Digital III

Ricoh has announced the new Ricoh GR Digital III, an update to the GR Digital II, it features a new wide angle f1.9 28mm lens, a 10 megapixel sensor, 1cm macro mode, ISO1600, 3″ VGA screen, and 370 shot battery life, double range double shot, RAW support, 1:1 aspect ratio photos, electronnic level, exposure bracketing, 30fps VGA video recording. It also has a new “pixel output interpolation algorithm” to prevent overexposed areas (see below), and a full press snap shutter release that takes the photo instantly at a set focal distance. The new GR Digital III will be available at £529.99 inc from the middle of August.

“Ricoh today announced the release of the GR DIGITAL III camera. A Successor model to the GR DIGITAL II, The GR Digital III achieves a whole new level of image quality. The new GR DIGITAL III takes the GR line’s traditional high image quality to an even higher level with a new image processing engine, a new CCD, and the newly developed 28 mm/F1.9 GR Lens. Performance has also been enhanced in areas such as quick shooting, operability, and power of expression. In order to fully respond to the needs of our customers for the GR DIGITAL III, Ricoh will continue to offer the customization services (fine tuning of shutter release button sensitivity, AE/AWB, etc.) that we have provided since the introduction of the GR DIGITAL.”

Ricoh GR Digital III Back

“Control whiteout with the pixel output interpolation algorithm, Ricoh’s original image processing technique. Comparing the output of each pixel, the algorithm interpolates image data in whiteout areas. This expands dynamic range by up to +1 EV equivalent. Using this extensive data to generate the JPEG, even for 8-bit (256-tone) images, it is possible to create a more “real” look with less whiteout than in the past.”

Pentax K7

Photography BLOG has reviewed the new Pentax K7 Digital SLR – the new weather resistant camera features a 14.6mp sensor with HD video recording at 720p, HDMI output, AF assist, electronic level, HDR mode, 5.2fps shooting and 3″ live view screen. The camera is available from Amazon UK body only:

“The Pentax K-7 is the best-ever Pentax DSLR camera and a real challenger to the relative giants of Canon and Nikon. Pentax have seemingly decided to include every “must-have” feature in one camera, with the K-7′s specifications reading like a keen photographer’s wish list. Thankfully most of those features are very well-realised, with only a few duds to spoil the party. Bearing an uncanny resemblance to the older K20D, the new K-7 improves on its sibling in a lot of ways that add up to make it a really compelling DSLR camera. The combination of 100% viewfinder coverage and large, high-res LCD screen make the K-7 a joy to use in terms of image composition.”

Fujifilm has officially announced the new Fujifilm Real 3D W1 camera, and V1 3D photoframe. The camera features two 3x optical zoom lenses, two 10 megapixel sensors, 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratio, 3D VGA video recording (zoom is not available whilst recording), ISO1600, 8cm macro in 2D mode, and a 2.8″ screen. “Fujifilm are extremely proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new imaging technology: the “FinePix Real 3D System”. The World’s first three dimensional (3D) digital imaging system that lets you enjoy three dimensional images without the need to wear special 3D glasses. Fuji 3D V1 Back

“The Real 3D W1 camera features the newly developed “Real 3D Lens System.” To achieve a natural, 3D image, it was necessary to flawlessly layer together two images, so two Fujinon lenses, renowned for their high resolution and exquisite rendering, were installed. A robust aluminum die-cast frame has been used to protect the lenses from vibration and impact. A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align two lenses, is also possible.”
