Panasonic GF1 vs Olympus E-P1

Which43.com is a new blog about the new Panasonic Lumix GF1 and Olympus PEN E-P1 Micro Four Thirds cameras and compares features, lenses, plus more. The Panasonic GF1 is available for £714 with kit lens, while the Olympus PEN E-P1 is available for £630 with kit lens.

“The Olympus 17mm f2.8. Contrast-wise it’s a little bit flat, it’s really not that sharp and it has quite a bit of distortion. However, it gives a great field of view that is both narrow enough to be intimate yet wide enough to allow busier compositions. Thankfully, RAW files stand up to a good bit of prodding, so you can still get some impressive results out of it. For day-to-day snapshots, I prefer it over the 20mm f1.7.”

Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Review

Nikon D3000DCResource has reviewed the new Nikon D3000 – an update to the D60 – it features a 10 megapixel sensor, 3fps shooting, 11 point focus, 3″ LCD, SD support, new Guide mode, and ISO 100-1600. The Nikon D3000 is available for £429 with VR kit lens.

“The Nikon D3000 is an easy-to-use, compact digital SLR that won’t break the bank. It offers very good photo quality, impressive point-and-shoot guides and help screens, responsive performance, full manual controls and, of course, the expandability that you come to expect from a D-SLR. There thing that separates the D3000 from more expensive D-SLRs is its lack of live view support. While live view can certainly be handy at times, I don’t think that the vast majority of people will miss that feature.”

“This is an extremely slim digital camera. It scores highly for ease of use and can also shoot High Definition movies. Picture quality is below top level, but it should get you by for most snapshot opportunities.”

Panasonic Lumix FZ35

Cameralabs have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix FZ35 / FZ38 – the new camera features a 27mm wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27 – 486mm), new Power Optical Image Stabilisation (O.I.S.), ultra high-speed start-up of approx. 1.2 seconds, a 2.7″ screen, HD 720p Video at 30fps, 12 megapixel sensor, and manual operation. The camera will be available in black from September, for £265.

“The optical range of course remains the highlight here, and even though Panasonic has now become the ‘shortest’ super-zoom in the current pack, it remains extremely flexible in use. It starts with decent 27mm wide-angle coverage, and 18x later ends up at an equivalent of 486mm. Sure, that’s shorter than the industry-leading 26x range (26-676mm) of the Olympus SP-590UZ, but 486mm is still very serious telephoto and we never found any situations where it wasn’t long enough.”

Canon EOS 500DBobAtkins has reviewed the new Canon EOS 500D / Rebel T1i Digital SLR – a new 15.1 megapixel digital SLR with 3″ screen, ISO12800, 3.4fps shooting, live view, and 1080p HD video shooting at 20fps. The 500D is available for £579 with kit lens from Amazon UK

“Compared with the XSi, the sensor of the T1i adds another 2.9 MP, increasing the count from 12.2MP to 15.1MP. The 15.1 MP sensor of the Digital Rebel T1i now matches the 15.1MP sensor of the “prosumer” EOS 50D in pixel count, though it may not be exactly the same sensor. The T1i also adds a number of new features of which the most significant may be the ability to shoot HD video.”

Sony Cybershot HX1Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new Sony Cybershot HX1 with “G” 28mm wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, 9.1 megapixel ‘Exmor’ CMOS sensor for high-speed shooting (10fps) and reduced image noise, 1080/30p HD videos, 3″ tilt screen, and is available for £308

“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is a powerful, but expensive ultrazoom camera that shoots decent pictures and good looking video, as well as being able to take very attractive night shots and panoramas without the usual hassle. These features were also very easy to use: we found that the Hand-held twighlight and sweeping panorama features were both simple and straightfoward to shoot with and took good quality images. At around $500, It is expensive, but it does offer a lot of features for the money.”

Samsung ST550 Review at DPExpert

Samsung ST550DPExpert have reviewed the new Samsung ST550 (TL225) it features dual LCDs – a touch screen at the back, and a 1.5″ screen at the front for self-portraits etc. The ST550 features the same 3.5″ 1,152k pixel touch screen as the ST1000, a 12 megapixel sensor, a wide angle 4.6x optical zoom lens (27mm – 124mm), 720p HD video recording, optical image stabilisation, and 18.9mm thin body. The ST550 is available for £259

“The front LCD has two functions – framing self portraits and amusing young subjects. When the camera is in Child Scene mode the front LCD plays a clown animation to make the little tackers smile. Generally image quality is good. It passes the tourist test well, delivering sharp, well exposed, punchy images straight from the camera, provided the subject is stationary.”
