Nokia N86 8mp

Wired.com say that new cellphones with cameras are beginning to impact on sales of low-end digital cameras – more so with the ever increasing focus on camera quality and features in mobile phones – such as the f2.4 lens in the Nokia N86 8mp shown above, and Xenon flash in the Sony Satio.

“Handsets soon may begin to cannibalize the low end of the digital still camera market as they incorporate higher megapixels and flash capabilities,” says Pam Tufegdzic, consumer electronics analyst at iSuppli in a statement. “This is likely to occur first in Asia and Europe as consumers in these regions seem to be more comfortable with taking pictures using camera phones.”

Olympus E-600 DSLR

Currys are selling the new Olympus E-600 for only £329 (or less via HotUKDeals), it sits underneath the Olympus E-620 as their new entry level Digital SLR. It features the same ultra small DSLR body with anti-shake sensor, a 12 megapixel live view sensor, 2.7″ swivel screen, 7 point AF, 4fps shooting, dust reduction, ISO3200, and art filters, but does not feature backlit buttons, looses 3 of the art filters, multiple exposures, and aspect ratios. The camera is available normally priced at $599/£399 with 14-42mm kit lens.

“The E-600’s 100 percent accurate 270 degree swivel 2.7-inch Live View HyperCrystal III LCD can be rotated freely so photographers can compose at any angle, including overhead and down low, without getting bent out of shape. This makes it easier to photograph young children on their own level or shoot high above a crowd. E-600 photographers can compose a subject right on the Live View LCD and see the results of the various creative features – live as they’re happening, before the shot is taken.”

Product Photos

Whether you’ve got a shop, or whether you just want to take photos of something you’re selling on ebay, this guide on how to take great product photos (by Ray Dobbins) should help you. They explain how to get the best results using ordinary (aka cheap) building lighting. You can also read our guide on how to take great product photos where we show how we take photos of cameras (useful for small items as well!). (via BoingBoing.net)

“I use a tripod for 99% of my shots. I only take hand-held shots when I can’t place the camera where I need to with the tripod (usually only in certain close-ups). But it is extremely difficult to take a good hand-held close-up shot. That’s where the extra optical zoom capability of the Kodak camera really comes in handy – you don’t have to get the camera in as close when you have a good zoom lens, so you can keep the camera on the tripod.”
