Sony has announced the new NEX-3 and NEX-5 as part of the new ilc e-series – both cameras feature a 14.2 megapixel Exmore APS CMOS sensor, new “E-Mount” interchangeable lenses, 7fps shooting, World’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens digital camera (NEX-5), 1080i HD movie recording (NEX-5) with stereo sound (720p on the NEX-3), fast and silent autofocus, Intuitive new interface with Help Guide and Shooting Tips, E-mount lens system compatible with Alpha DSLR lenses (with optional Mount Adaptor), Sweep Panorama with 3D capability, 3″ swivel screen, and ISO200-12800. They will be available in black, silver and red (NEX-3), and the NEX-5 features a Magnesium body. Flash is an optional extra. The NEX-5 will cost £550-£600, while the NEX-3 will cost £450-£500, both with 18-55mm kit lens (Source: AP).

Pentax has announced the new Pentax Optio M90 – available in red or black – it features a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm), 12 megapixel sensor, 2.7″ screen, VGA video mode, SD/SDHC support, ISO100-1600, panoramic mode, and lithium-ion battery.


“Combining a 12.1 megapixels sensor to a high performance PENTAX zoom lens, the Optio M90 delivers high-quality images with sharp details and faithfull colour reproduction. The high resolution 2.7” LCD screen (230,000 dots) offers absolute convenience not only to view captured images but also to make camera settings.”

Ricoh has announced the development and release of the new GXR camera unit RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC*1. Featuring a high-magnification 10.7x (28-300 mm) optical wide-angle zoom (As featured in the Ricoh CX3 – read our review) and high-speed continuous shooting of RAW still images at about 5 frames/second*2, this camera unit has a back-illuminated CMOS sensor and an advanced noise reduction function.

“The Image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine IV and the high-speed image processing capabilities of the CMOS sensor combine to enhance image quality and expand dynamic range. The 10.7x optical zoom expands image-creation possibilities from wide-angle through telephoto. The RAW mode high-speed continuous shooting at about 5 frames/second enables the photographer to catch the desired scene. And the noise reduction function and back-illuminated CMOS sensor together give high imaging performance in low-light shooting.

Also included are a 1280 × 720 pixel HD movie function, the dynamic range double shot mode function, a macro function capable of close-up shooting at 1 cm, and many other enhanced functions for diverse and effortless enjoyment of shooting from 28 mm wide-angle to 300 mm telephoto.

For this model, there are two package types available. The product name “RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC” refers to just the camera unit by itself. Product name “GXR+P10 KIT” refers to the GXR body and the RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC camera unit packaged together. The Ricoh Lens P10 will be available at SRP £249.99 inc”


Play.com (and others) are selling the new Hello Kitty Face Digital Camera – it features a 5 megapixel sensor, LED flash (ouch!), 2″ screen, AAA batteries, VGA video with sound, SD card slot, 64MB built in meow-mory, 4x digital zoom and no optical zoom.

Canon Powershot SX120 IS

Amazon UK are selling the Canon Powershot SX120 IS for £139 – there’s also £20 cashback available from Canon making it only £119 – the 10 megapixel camera has a 10x optical zoom lens (36-360mm), 3″ LCD screen, optical image stabilisation and takes AA batteries. You might also want to have a look at the Panasonic Lumix FS7 which is available for £115 (also available in Pink!). Also worth mentioning is the appearance of the Nikon D3000 with VR kit lens appearing in the bestsellers list at number 15 (was 7) – priced at £340 (from Amazon – also comes with a free Nikon Bag).
