It’s with some surprise and sadness that I found a post on DCViews, which I thought was celebrating it’s 10 years of being on the web, but instead, it’s a notice explaining that they have decided to close the website, citing market saturation when it comes to digital photography. You can read their message here.

“Today, exactly ten years ago, we launched our DCViews website to support you in finding your way in the uncharted but wonderful world of digital photography. Not only the digital photography was in its infancy then, but the Internet was far from what we see today, in terms of user interface as well as performance.”

DCViews was one of the first dedicated digital photography / digital camera websites on the web, and has always been an invaluable resource when you wanted to find information of cameras, with an excellent database of both new and old cameras. It will surely be missed. We wish the owners all the best for the future.

Sony Cybershot TX55
Sony has announced the new Sony Cybershot TX55 – the world’s slimmest digital camera – measuring just 12.2mm thick – it features a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens, image stabilisation, 16.2 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, and large 3.3 inch OLED touch screen. The camera features 10fps shooting, Full HD video, and sweep panoramic modes. Full details can be found on ePHOTOzine, and the camera will be available in September.

Also announced: the Sony Cybershot WX30 (not available in the UK), and the W550 (available in Japan), a version of the W520/W530, but with a 3inch screen, found via 1001noisycameras.

Panasonic Lumix FX77 FX78
ePHOTOzine has reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix FX77 (FX78) – a new ultra compact camera, it features a 12 megapixel sensor, wide angle 5x optical zoom lens (24-120mm), 3.5″ touch screen (only 230k), 3.7fps shooting, 1920 x 1080 Full-HD Movie Recording, 3D photo mode, intelligent auto mode, optical image stabilisation, SD/SDHC/SDXC support and 200 shot battery life with the provided lithium ion battery. The Panasonic Lumix FX77 should be available at the end of February from Amazon UK.

“The FX77 has plenty of features such as the f/2.5 lens and touch-screen which aren’t found on many compact digital cameras. Images produced are good whether shooting close-up or using the full 5x optical zoom, with the intelligent zoom a welcome addition.”
