The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 is the world’s only premium travel zoom. Not only does it feature advanced photographic controls with dual control-dials and an EVF with Eye-Start sensor, it also matches its 25-250mm equivalent zoom with a large 20 megapixels 1″ CMOS sensor which is making the rounds among premium compacts.

This lets the ZS100 deliver high image quality with good low-light performance in a pocket-size form factor even with a relatively long 10X optical zoom lens. This compact camera records 4K Ultra-HD video at 30 FPS and 1080p ones at 60 FPS.

A in-depth review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 was recently published at Neocamera. Read it to find out how Panasonic managed to deliver this unique product and make it one of the compelling digital cameras of 2016.

Polaroid:
Polaroid announced some cameras too, seemingly mock-ups or prototypes, and whether they’ll actually be released or not is anyone’s guess. For example, last year they announced a number of mirrorless cameras with vague details (one looked like a Nikon 1 series copy, the other a Pentax Q copy), and we’re still waiting for them to be released. Although they did release one, the Polaroid iM1836 (the Nikon 1 look-a-like), it was quickly withdrawn from the market after Nikon sued them for copyright infringement. Anyway, here’s hoping they do release some of these cameras, as the Socialmatic certainly looks interesting:

Polaroid Socialmatic – Android, Zink photo printing, 14mp front camera, 2mp rear camera, 4.5inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, due Fall 2014…
Polaroid Ultra Zoom / Bridge cameras, with Wi-Fi, and 50x, 40x, 35x, 30x, and 15x optical zoom depending on how everyone feels, and due Spring 2014.

Maginon SZ 24

ALDI in the UK, are selling the Maginon SZ 24 (from the same group as TEVION and TRAVELER), a compact camera with a 24x optical zoom lens equivalent to 25-600mm, 16 megapixel CCD sensor, 720p video, 3inch screen, optical image stabilisation, ISO64-ISO1600, pop-up flash, it uses USB charging and a lithium-ion battery and comes with a 4GB SD card, and is priced at £119. Buyers of the Maginon SZ 24 have complained about the short battery life – averaging around 100 shots – although the battery can easily be replaced by a higher power unit from ebay (or elsewhere).

Olympus sell a very similar camera to this, the Olympus SZ-15, with roughly the same specifications, priced at £129 from Amazon UK, although you don’t get a free memory card with it. Or there’s a 14 megapixel version, the Olympus SZ-14, available for £119 from Amazon UK available in a number of different colours, and there’s even a deal where you can get a free case and 8GB SD card all for £119. Most reviews of the Olympus SZ-14 are quite positive, and there is a more detailed Olympus SZ-14 review here. Nice. PS – There’s a Casio version too, the Casio Exilim EX-H50, but that’s only available shipped from Japan.
