Panasonic has announced the new 14 megapixel Panasonic Lumix FP1 with 3.0" touch screen, 14 megapixel FP2 with 2.7" screen, and 12 megapixel FP3 with 2.7" screen. The ultra compact cameras all feature a 4x optical zoom lens, 720p HD video recording, face detection, and optical image stabilisation. Kodak has announced the new Kodak Slice Touchscreen camera - it has a large 3.5" 16:9 touchscreen that is designed to be used as a "digital photoframe" for viewing photos (like everyone elses screen to date so far) - and features an internal 5x optical zoom lens, 14 megapixel sensor, HD 720p at 30 fps video recording, panoramic stitching, face detection, 2GB internal memory, and it will be available in Black, "Nickel" (Silver), and "Radish" (Pink!). The Worst Digital Cameras of 2009

Digital Camera HQ has brought to us another list, this time the Worst Digital Cameras of 2009, featuring mostly low-end budget digital cameras, with the Olympus FE-45 named as the worst - it features a 10 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5" screen. It is available for £97, however, we think you would be much better off spending a little more on the Panasonic Lumix FS7.

"Last and definitely least is the Olympus FE-45. We can confidently say that this is the worst camera of the year. We haven't received enough user ratings to assign it a letter grade, but the reviews we have seen give it the lowest ranking of the 100 or so cameras we've added to DCHQ in the past year."

Best and Worst Digital Gadgets of 2009

It's that time of the year again, the time for hundred of lists that tell you what's the best, and what's the worst, this one from Business Week is quite entertaining, it names the Samsung ST550 (shown above), as one of the best digital cameras of the year, along with the Panasonic Lumix GF1. The Samsung ST550 is available for £212 from Amazon UK. They also name the Polaroid Two - Instant Digital Camera (shown below) as one of the worst:

At £149 the Polaroid Instant Digital Camera seems expensive as it only has a 5 megapixel camera (with no optical zoom and dubious image quality), and you'd probably be much better buying any budget camera, and buying the Poloroid Pogo Instant Printer instead, priced at only £23!

Nikon Coolpix S640 Review

Photography BLOG has reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S640 - the 12 megapixel camera features ultra fast focus and start up time, wide angle 5x optical zoom lens (28mm - 140mm), optical image stabilisation, HD video, 2cm macro mode, a 2.7" screen, and USB charging. It will be available in five different colours: black, white, silver, pink, red, for £199.

"Nikon are pushing the speed of the S640, and it certainly doesn't disappoint in this regard. Focusing is on a par with most entry-level DSLRs, quickly locking onto the subject without too many misses. The S640 also bursts into life very quickly, although it's best to leave the camera turned on to avoid that puzzling 5 second "freeze". Other features are a little more mundane, with the versatile 5x optical zoom the pick of the bunch."

The camera is made almost entirely of plastic but doesn’t have many ‘weak’ spots except the memory/battery compartment door. This SD940 actually is easier to use: it has better ergonomics and a much better and bigger LCD (the SD980's LCD is chopped on the top and bottom, so it actually has fewer usable pixels and smaller effective image size)."
