Olympus Mju Stylus Tough 8000 Review Online!

We've just published our review of the new Olympus Mju Stylus Tough 8000 - a compact 12 megapixel camera, with a wide angle 3.6x optical zoom lens, 2.7" screen, image stabilisation, tap controls and tough credentials, namely it's shockproof to 2m, waterproof to 10m, crushproof, and feezeproof to -10. It is available in blue, black, and silver for £250 from Amazon:

"The camera has quite rich, saturated, pleasing colours. There was good detail, and the camera took a number of pleasing images outside, with good contrast, with little or no chromatic aberations and purple fringing. In general 'normal' quality jpeg artefacts are not easily seen, however areas with strong contrasts benefit from use of the highest quality setting. Images are slightly soft, with some slight corner softness, but nothing too worrying."

Pentax Optio W80 Announced

Pentax Imaging have announced the new Pentax Optio W80 - it features: 12.1 megapixels, is Waterproof, Dustproof, Coldproof and Shockproof, has a Wide-angle 5X internal optical zoom, a 2.5" screen, 720p HD video recording at 30fps. The camera is available in blue, red, or grey from July.

DPExpert have reviewed the new Olympus Mju Stylus Tough 6000 - a compact 10 megapixel camera, with a wide angle 3.6x optical zoom lens, 2.7" screen, image stabilisation, tap controls and tough credentials, namely it's shockproof to 1.5m, waterproof to 3m, and feezeproof to -10. It is available in lime, blue, orange, and silver for £199:

"This 10 megapixel camera with a 28–102mm (film equivalent) lens is the latest version of Olympus’ go-anywhere camera. It is waterproof (to 3 metres), snowproof (to -10c) and shockproof for a drop of 1.5m. We didn’t test it, but it feels robust enough. "The results I got from the IXUS 980IS are good quality, colourful and sharp. Exactly what I expected, but does that mean that it's reliable or predictable? That depends on your own perception of the results. I don't like the portrait shots but I think for the resolution, the noise results are great."

There’s a sizable 3 inch LCD on the back along with backlit buttons and an ISO range which reaches 6400 which makes it SOUND like a good low-light camera. Unfortunately, the reality is that the Mju 1060 produces good quality photos up till ISO 400 (ISO 800 if you’re willing to push it) and struggles to even focus in low-light."
