Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR Review

Canon EOS 50DDigital Photography School have reviewed the new Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR - an update to the 40D - it features a new 15.1 megapixel sensor, 6.3fps shooting, Canon’s latest DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO upto 12800, 3" screen with live view, sensor cleaning, 9 point AF, and face detection. Body only is available for £875:

"Is there anything that I didn’t like about the Canon 50D? I honestly don’t think so. It takes an amazing photo, It’s a great size for my hands and the way I handle a camera - I am very big on that one, lots of people may have narrowed a new camera choice down to “this Canon or that Nikon…etc” but one thing I find that people don’t do is to go into a shop and physically hold the cameras in this, the day and age of “online shopping”."

"Canon will likely sell a lot of Rebel XS kits. It's a pretty good SLR at a pretty astonishingly low price, and that's what it was designed to be. Most consumers will be very happy with the Canon Rebel XS, thanks to the high quality, image-stabilized lens, the well-rounded feature-set, and impressive print quality. But there are a few technical foibles that enthusiasts will do well to take note of."

Canon EOS 50DSteves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR - an update to the 40D - it features a new 15.1 megapixel sensor, 6.3fps shooting, Canon’s latest DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO upto 12800, 3" screen with live view, sensor cleaning, 9 point AF, and face detection. Body only is available for £875:

"Blurring the line between amateur and professional dSLR cameras, Canon has introduced the EOS 50D, as an upgrade to the 40D released last year. This new model is expected to be the camera body of choice for amateur photographers this holiday season. What really makes it stand out from the 40D is the APS-C sized, 15.1-Megapixel CMOS sensor (4752x3168), the new DIGIC 4 image processor, 3-inch Clear View LCD monitor with 920,000 dots, ISO settings from 100-12800 and Live View with Face Detection. One thing that has carried over from the 40D is the 14-bit per channel color space, allowing for incredibly smooth tonal gradation."

Canon EOS 5D MK2Cameratown have reviewed the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR - the new flagship camera features a 21.1MP full frame CMOS sensor, ISO upto 25600, Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording, 3" VGA LCD with Live View, 3.9fps JPEG shooting, 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points, and Magnesium alloy body. "Whereas most new camera introductions are evolutionary, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is truly a revolutionary camera for Canon as well as for photography in general. After using the EOS 5D Mark II for a few days you cannot help but to feel that you're holding the future of photography right in your hand - even if it is just an infant. The ability to shoot at virtually any ISO without much concern for image noise is creating a remarkable shift in the way photographer's shoot."

Canon EOS 5D MK2Cameralabs have reviewed the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR - the new flagship camera features a 21.1MP full frame CMOS sensor, ISO upto 25600, Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording, 3" VGA LCD with Live View, 3.9fps JPEG shooting, 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points, and Magnesium alloy body. The Canon 5D Mark II is available from Amazon UK:

"Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II is a powerful and feature-packed DSLR that represents a significant upgrade over the original 5D, and a tough rival in the growing ‘affordable’ full-frame market. We’re becoming used to seeing new models released every 18 or even 12 months, with often gradual improvements, but a lot has changed in the three years since the EOS 5D was launched."

Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR Review

Canon EOS 5D MK2Ken Rockwell has reviewed the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR - the new flagship camera features a 21.1MP full frame CMOS sensor, ISO upto 25600, Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording, 3" VGA LCD with Live View, 3.9fps JPEG shooting, 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points, and Magnesium alloy body. The Canon 5D Mark II is available from Amazon UK:

"The 5D Mark II, as I write this, is the world's highest-image-qualty 35mm-based DSLR. Any image defects you see are most likely due to your own lack of expertise, and you had better have some extraordinarily good lenses to take advantage of the resolution. Few lenses are as good as the 5D Mark II."

The Canon 5D Mark II is available from Amazon UK:

"In reality though at this price point, even with the limitations of the HD video mode, it's still an amazing deal. I've already shot footage that I could not shoot with rigs that cost me 3x the price of this camera and in higher quality no less."

Canon EOS 5D MK2Photography BLOG have reviewed the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR - the new flagship camera features a 21.1MP full frame CMOS sensor, ISO upto 25600, Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording, 3" VGA LCD with Live View, 3.9fps JPEG shooting, 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points, and Magnesium alloy body. The Canon 5D Mark II is available from Amazon UK:

"Much more successful, and I think where the real strength of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II lies, is the amazing combination of high-resolution images with low-light performance. The new 21 megapixel CMOS sensor and expanded ISO range thankfully haven't compromised image quality in any way, quite the opposite in fact. There's virtually no visible noise at all from ISO 50 all the way up to ISO 3200."

Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR Review

Canon EOS 50DBob Atkins has reviewed the new Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR - an update to the 40D - it features a new 15.1 megapixel sensor, 6.3fps shooting, Canon’s latest DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO upto 12800, 3" screen with live view, sensor cleaning, 9 point AF, and face detection. Body only is available for £839:

"Of course you can't have everything and increasing the pixel count from 10MP to 15MP means that the pixels have to be 1/3 smaller (22 sq. microns vs. 33 sq. microns), and as we all know, smaller pixels typically mean higher noise levels, especially at high ISO settings. So Canon had their work cut out in trying to make a high pixel count sensor which retained high quality."

Canon EOS 450D Rebel XSi DSLR Review

Canon EOS 450DBob Atkins has reviewed the new Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi - a 12.2 megapixel update to the 400D - it features 3.5fps shooting, live view shooting, 9 point AF, 3" screen, SD memory card support, and Canon's dust reduction system. The 450D Body only is priced at £389, the EOS 450D with 18-55mm IS kit is £438.

"The Rebel XSi could be looked at as both a "baby brother" to the EOS 40D and the new EOS 50D as well as an upgrade of the Rebel XTi. It has the basic size and shape of the XTi with the same shutter speed range, the same flash sync speed and the same ISO range, but it has a new, higher pixel count sensor, Live View, Highlight Tone Priority, High ISO Noise reduction, Spot metering, a 14-bit A/D converter and viewfinder ISO display first found on the EOS 40D."

The Canon 5D Mark II is available from Amazon UK:

"The Canon 5D Mark II is a remarkable instrument. Not only is it a 21-megapixel camera that takes amazing photographs, but it is also one of the first of the "hybrid" cameras. It takes full 1080p High Definition video. As more and more photojournalists find themselves confronted with "multi-tasking" in their jobs, providing both stills and video, this is a major step that points the way to the future of the industry."

Power on is as good as instant, the camera is always ready when you need it and it is quite impressive at what speed the huge 15 megapixel files are being written, processed and transferred through the imaging pipeline. Canon's new DIGIC IV processor certainly pulls its weight."

Canon EOS 50DDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR - an update to the 40D - it features a new 15.1 megapixel sensor, 6.3fps shooting, Canon’s latest DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO upto 12800, 3" screen with live view, sensor cleaning, 9 point AF, and face detection. Body only will be available for £899:

"The Canon EOS-50D is a solid incremental upgrade from the 40D. It doesn't have any dramatic new features, delivers a gorgeous LCD, 15-megapixel resolution, an improved live view mode, and burst mode at a speedy 6.3 frames per second. However, we were unimpressed by the merely average results in our lab testing, where the 50D consistently scored on par or worse than both its predecessor and the much less expensive Canon XSi."

As such it’s a very impressive specification, and one which on the whole lives up to its promise."

Canon EOS 1000D Rebel XS DSLR Review

Canon EOS 1000DDCResource have reviewed the new Canon EOS 1000D, it features a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, Up to 3fps, 7-point wide-area AF, Self-Cleaning Image Sensor, 2.5” LCD with Live View mode, DIGIC III processor, auto lighting optimizer, SD/SDHC card slot. The Canon EOS 1000D is available for pre-order for £375 with IS kit lens, or £328 body only:

"The Canon EOS Rebel XS (also known as the EOS-1000D) is a very competent entry-level digital SLR. It takes photos of excellent quality, it's responsive, and it offers a host of useful features. It's biggest problem is that its big brother, the Rebel XSi, costs just $70 more. Upgrading to the XSi doesn't buy you better photo quality (you just get large images), but it does get you a larger LCD and viewfinder, faster continuous shooting speeds (especially in RAW mode), spot metering, and more."

"Released just one year after the 40D, the new EOS 50D DSLR is Canon's answer to its main rival, the Nikon D300. The EOS 50D is both a worthy upgrade for current 40D owners and a real challenger to the D300, mainly thanks to the larger 15 megapixel sensor, new Digic 4 processor and expanded ISO range, which thankfully haven't compromised image quality in any way."

"The Canon EOS 1000D is Canon's response to competitors' models - think Sony A200 or Nikon D60 and you're on the right track. However, a response is one thing, but it's certainly not the conclusive answer that Canon should provide. The so-so kit lens, the odd price-point and the toy-esque plastic build quality just don't do the EOS 1000D justice. Stump up an extra £70 and you could be the proud owner of the superior Canon EOS 450D."

"The EOS Rebel XS is Canon's newest entry-level SLR. Based on the Rebel XSi, it’s marginally cheaper and less powerful, with a resolution of 10 megapixels versus 12 for the XSi, a smaller 2.5” LCD screen. It arrives into an already crowded marketplace, full of affordable, starter SLRs. Our first acquaintance with the camera was accompanied by comparable sayings. Notably; the Canon 1000D looks exactly like an EOS 450D and; the EOS 1000D is the offspring of the EOS 400D. "Stupid gimmicks apart, this is a good way to buy into a system than will grow with the user’s expertise. And when the time comes to move up to a better body the Canon lenses will still be in the bag to use on the new camera. And as decent lenses generally cost more than the price of the EOS 1000D camera body this is an important consideration. So the two good reasons to buy this camera are Canon’s outstanding image quality and their extensive range of options and accessories."

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark IIIDPReview has reviewed the new Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III Digital SLR in Madagascar - the camera features a full frame 21.1 megapixel CMOS Sensor and dual DIGIC III image processors, 5fps shooting, 19 point AF, EOS sensor cleaning, two Live view modes, a dustproof and waterproof body, it takes compact flash and SDHC memory cards and has a 3" screen. The 1Ds Mark III is available from Amazon:

"If you need resolution, the Mark III - as long as you choose your glass carefully - has it by the bucket load. From here the only way to get more resolution is to go medium format, which brings a whole new set of considerations (not the least the need to sell your house - or at least a kidney - to afford the body and lenses)."

Canon EOS 1000D Rebel XS DSLR Review

Canon EOS 1000DCameralabs have reviewed the new Canon EOS 1000D, it features a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, Up to 3fps, 7-point wide-area AF, Self-Cleaning Image Sensor, 2.5” LCD with Live View mode, DIGIC III processor, auto lighting optimizer, SD/SDHC card slot. The Canon EOS 1000D is available for pre-order for £429 with IS kit lens, or £384 body only:

"Once you’ve made your peace with these downgrades, it’s easy to like the 1000D / XS. It’s a decent performer and sports all the features most new buyers will look for. The only real problem is its launch price, which at the time of writing in mid-2008 was higher than most rivals, and too close to the 450D / XSi for anyone to seriously consider it."
