Olympus E-600 Digital SLR Announced

Olympus E-600 DSLR

Olympus has announced the new Olympus E-600, it sits underneath the Olympus E-620 as their new entry level Digital SLR. It features the same ultra small DSLR body with anti-shake sensor, a 12 megapixel live view sensor, 2.7" swivel screen, 7 point AF, 4fps shooting, dust reduction, ISO3200, and art filters, but does not feature backlit buttons, looses 3 of the art filters, multiple exposures, and aspect ratios. This makes it easier to photograph young children on their own level or shoot high above a crowd. Olympus EVOLT E-1 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E1 DSLRThew's Reviews have reviewed the Olympus EVOLT E-1 Digital SLR - a 5 megapixel weather sealed digital SLR from 2003, based on the 4/3rds standard it features a Magnesium alloy body, Unique dust protection filter (SSWF), Dust & Splashproof protective body, USB2, and a 1.8" screen.

"The E-1 turned out to be a really good camera. Apparently when Olympus says "pro" they mean build quality and reliability, which is always reserved for the top-tier models no matter which camera brand you choose. It just happens that Olympus's top is at an affordable and accessible price. This is the main reason why I use Olympus cameras today: a weather-sealed lens and body for $2500 simply had no competitors."

Olympus EVOLT E-P1 M43 Camera Announced

Olympus E-P1

Update: Olympus have officially announced the new Olympus E-P1 a new micro four thirds Digital camera, it's the world's smallest digital camera with changeable lens, it features the same size sensor as other Olympus Digital SLRs (meaning much better image quality with all the low-noise benefits of a DSLR), but with a camera body and lens size much more in like with a compact point and shoot such as the Canon G10! It will be available with a compact 17mm lens (34mm equivalent, UK Price with viewfinder £749), and 14-42mm 3x zoom lens (28 - 84mm equivalent, UK Price £699). More pics at Engadget. The camera will feature dust reduction, a 12.3 megapixel live view sensor, 720p video recording (1280x720) with stereo sound and HDMI out, anti-shake sensor, 3" screen, 3fps, takes SD cards (finally!), and ISO100 - 6400.

Olympus E-P1 Back

"With the release of the E-P1, the digital era’s next generation Olympus Pen has arrived: mirrors are no longer a necessary component for digital cameras with interchangeable lenses. The first groundbreaking Olympus Micro Four Thirds model impresses with its incredibly small size, retro style, and ease of use – without giving up any of the benefits of D-SLR quality. This new ultra-compact hybrid device can even record HD quality movies with depth of field and Art Filter effects familiar from still photography. Naturally, the E-P1 packs all the advantages of Olympus imaging technology e.g. image stabilisation, a dust reduction system, and bright interchangeable lenses. It will be available for purchase in July 2009 at a retail price of €800."

"The Olympus E-30 is a very good digital SLR, and arguably one of the best they've ever made. It offers very good photo quality, image stabilization, generally snappy performance, live view on a rotating 2.7" LCD display, plenty of manual controls, and built-in support for wireless flashes. Olympus E30 DSLRPhotography BLOG have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-30 Digital SLR - the new camera features a 12.3 megapixel sensor, 2.7" swivel screen with live view, 5fps shooting, built in image stabilisation, 11 point AF, ISO100 - 3200, face detection, level gauge, shadow adjustment, and supersonic wave filter (for dust reduction). The Olympus E30 will be available from Amazon

"The E-30 is a brave attempt by Olympus to offer something different in the mid-range DSLR market, with a strong emphasis on in-camera creative effects that actually prove to be fun to use. The Multiple Exposure mode in particular is a great example of making a traditional photographic technique easier. Sure, you can replicate most of the E-30's artistic filters on a computer, but there's something to be said for being able to do it instantly and even preview the effect before you press the shutter button."

Olympus E30 DSLRBiofos.com have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-30 Digital SLR - the new camera features a 12.3 megapixel sensor, 2.7" swivel screen with live view, 5fps shooting, built in image stabilisation, 11 point AF, ISO100 - 3200, face detection, level gauge, shadow adjustment, and supersonic wave filter (for dust reduction). The Olympus E30 will be available from Amazon

"However, the E-30 is better to handle, the controls have been slightly relocated and adjusted to deliver more pleasing ergonomics. Unlike the E-3, the camera doesn't seem to get in the way of itself. To me it is a definite notch up on the E-3 in the handling stakes. For folks upgrading from the E-4 & 5XX models the handling will seem strange to start with but will soon prove a revelation as it is well thought out and delivered."

"Where the E-520 truly shines is in collecting all of the features available on the current entry-level dSLR market in a single device, and in doing many of them better than the competition. Where it stumbles is in the basics: image sharpness, detail, and noise control. The Olympus does those things well, but the competition generally does them better."

For around $600 you get a camera that has features for both beginners and enthusiasts, good photo quality (in most situations), image stabilization, and responsive performance -- plus one of the better kit lenses on the market. The E-520 does have its flaws, though, including soft images, high ISO performance that's just fair, and the tendency to clip highlights."

Olympus EA1 DSLR PrototypeOlympus have announced plans to release a new E series Digital SLR - designed to fit in between the E-520 and E-3 - the camera will feature high speed 11 point AF, and image stabilisation:

"In terms of quality and performance, however, there is nothing mid-level about this model. It will inherit all the outstanding features of the E-3 such as the high-speed AF system using an 11-point full twin-cross sensor and the built-in image stabilisation mechanism with a correction effect of up to 5 EV steps*. Other highlights will include a new and updated feature to replace the current splash and dustproof function of the E-3."

Olympus EVOLT E-520 DSLR Review

Olympus E-520Buy N Shoot have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-520 Digital SLR - an update to the Olympus EVOLT E-510 - it features a 10 megapixel sensor, image stabilisation, face detection, shadow adjustment, dust protection, autofocus live view, 3.5 fps shooting, ISO1600, and a larger 2.7" screen. The E-520 is available for £497 with kit lens or £553 with twin lens kit.

"Overall image quality was rated very high with fine colour reproduction, while noise among the higher range of ISO does become obvious. 20 scene modes are included – again, to help buff the transition from compact to DSLR - while manual, program, shutter and aperture priority modes expand shooting possibilities for the more advanced user."

Olympus EVOLT E-520 DSLR Review

Olympus E-520DPReview have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-520 Digital SLR - an update to the Olympus EVOLT E-510 - it features a 10 megapixel sensor, image stabilisation, face detection, shadow adjustment, dust protection, autofocus live view, 3.5 fps shooting, ISO1600, and a larger 2.7" screen. The E-520 is available for £497 with kit lens or £553 with twin lens kit.

"The good news is that the Olympus does a better job of optimizing its JPEGs than just about any other DSLR we can think of - just about all the detail and dynamic range the sensor is capable of is visible in the JPEG. Unfortunately, it's an inescapable conclusion that the sensor simply isn't capturing the detail and range of tones that its peers are capable of."

Olympus EVOLT E-3 Digital SLR Review

Olympus EVOLT E-3Megapixel.net have published their review of the new top of the range E-3 professional Olympus Digital SLR - the camera features a 10 megapixel LiveMOS / Live view sensor, "World's fastest autofocus", 5fps sequential shooting with 19 image RAW buffer, built-in image stabiliser, 2.5" swivel screen, Shadow Adjustment Technology, dust reduction system (Supersonic Wave Filter), Splashproof body and lens system, High sensitivity (ISO 100-3200), and 11 point AF. The E-3 is available for £945.

"The Olympus E-3 takes outstanding photographs indoors as well as out. Its exposure system does an excellent job of analyzing the lighting in a scene and producing arresting photographs. On most occasions, I found the 12-60mm telephoto lens (24-120mm approximate equivalent) very versatile in nabbing the shot that I wanted when I wanted it."

Olympus EVOLT E-520 DSLR Review

Olympus E-520Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-520 Digital SLR - an update to the Olympus EVOLT E-510 - it features a 10 megapixel sensor, image stabilisation, face detection, shadow adjustment, dust protection, autofocus live view, 3.5 fps shooting, ISO1600, and a larger 2.7" screen. The E-520 is available for £497 with kit lens or £553 with twin lens kit.

"The E-520 is a camera that manages to package a significant number of excellent features and solid controls into a great body, but really let itself down in our performance testing. There’s one of the best Live View modes on the market (with auto focus), a good image stabilization system that’s built into the body, comprehensive presets and a high degree of customizability and control."

Olympus EVOLT E-520 Digital SLR Review

Olympus E-520LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-520 Digital SLR - an update to the Olympus EVOLT E-510 - it features a 10 megapixel sensor, image stabilisation, face detection, shadow adjustment, dust protection, autofocus live view, 3.5 fps shooting, ISO1600, and a larger 2.7" screen. The E-520 is available for £540 with kit lens or £599 with twin lens kit.

"If you look solely at the camera's specifications, you might want to classify the E-520 as a minor update of the E-510. However, in addition to the number of features that have been added, for example, improvement of Live View or the application of the Shadow Adjustment technology, the image sensor and, with it, the image quality have been improved tremendously."

Olympus EVOLT E-3 Digital SLR Review

Olympus EVOLT E-3The Online Photographer have published a six-part review and guide to the new top of the range E-3 professional Olympus Digital SLR - the camera features a 10 megapixel LiveMOS / Live view sensor, "World's fastest autofocus", 5fps sequential shooting with 19 image RAW buffer, built-in image stabiliser, 2.5" swivel screen, Shadow Adjustment Technology, dust reduction system (Supersonic Wave Filter), Splashproof body and lens system, High sensitivity (ISO 100-3200), and 11 point AF. The E-3 is available for £945.

"On the strength side, the E-3 offers good performance across what has become the usual range of SLR technologies, including some, like autofocus and wireless flash, where Olympus had previously lagged significantly behind the leaders. Importantly, it also collects together cool and useful new technologies like in-camera image stabilization and a decent (for today) implementation of Live View."
