Kodak have announced the new Kodak Easyshare M380 - featuring a 10MP sensor, 5x optical zoom, and 2.7” LCD, the M340 - with 10MP sensor, 3x optical zoom, 2.7” LCD, in a slim body design; available in blue, blue-green, silver, and red, and M320 - with 9MP sensor, 3x optical zoom, 2.7” LCD; available in black, silver, red and blue:

Kodak have announced the new Kodak Easyshare Z980 - it features a 26mm wide angle 24x Optical Zoom Lens with optical image stabilisation, HD picture and video capture, Vertical shutter release and detachable vertical grip, for shooting scenes vertically, a hot shoe, 12 megapixel sensor, and 3" screen.

Both the V1073 and V1273 are beautiful to look at, and the touch-screen interface, while a problem for some people, is well designed and operates fairly smoothly. However both cameras suffer from slow overall performance and serious image quality issues."

Kodak Easyshare C913 Announced

Kodak have (quietly) announced the new Kodak Easyshare C913 - a budget 9 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.4" screen, VGA video at 15fps, digital blur reduction mode, and ISO upto 1000. The camera will be available in black, silver, pink and purple. The camera's predecessor, the C813, is available for £59 from Amazon.

Buying a Digital Camera for Children?

Photodoto have written an excellent guide on introducing your children to photography. They suggest starting off with an older 2 megapixel camera and seeing how it goes from there, if they like it, then move on to a better camera, such as the Kodak Easyshare C613 or C713 (£49 at Amazon).

"Don’t rush out and buy a new camera for your child’s first attempt. You’ve probably got an old camera somewhere, it doesn’t matter if it’s a film camera or an early digital camera with 2 MP, as long as it works it’ll do. If your child shows interest for more than a week or so then the chances are a new camera just for him will be used and appreciated."

My only concern with this is the the extending lens could be easily damaged, and while the Olympus 1030SW would survive rough treatment, it's price is a little too much for small kids. Are there any new cameras available that don't have an extending lens, but are still budget friendly?
