Canon Powershot SX10 IS Review

Canon Powershot SX10 ISLetsGoDigital have reviewed the Canon Powershot SX10 IS, it has a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, ISO1600, a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, VGA video recording, and a swivel 2.5" screen. The camera is available for £253

"Other than that, the Canon PowerShot is a strong candidate to be the overall winner of the current Megazoom cameras. For now, the choice is up to the end user. And fair is fair; the technical lab tests merciless show the weak spots of a camera. It doesn’t always have to be like that in practice, since shooting conditions do differ vastly. The overall picture quality is of a high level and the Canon SX10 IS offers excellent users ease, as well as a swift response and is an ideal all-round camera."

"Overall, the Canon A2000 IS is a very good performer. It captures good exposures with sharp details and accurate color under most average shooting conditions. Canon Powershot A1000 IS Review

Canon Powershot A1000 ISDPInterface have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A1000IS - the 10 megapixel camera is an update to the A580 and features a 4x optical zoom with optical IS, 17 shooting modes including Easy Mode, Face Detection Technology, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection Technology, 2.5” LCD and Optical viewfinder, it takes AA batteries and is available in blue, brown or silver for £109:

"The Canon PowerShot A1000 is a nice addition to Canon’s entry-level line of cameras. It’s just like the A2000 I reviewed, with a smaller 4X lens, screen size and the addition of an optical viewfinder. The main features of the camera are its 10 megapixel resolution, 4X zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD and very good battery life."

Canon Powershot A2000 IS Review

Canon Powershot A2000 ISDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A2000 IS - the 10 megapixel camera is an update to the A720 IS and features a 6x optical zoom with optical IS, 17 shooting modes including Easy Mode, Face Detection Technology, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection Technology, 3” LCD, it takes AA batteries and is available for £150

"The Canon PowerShot A2000 IS has a couple of significant factors in its favor. It's inexpensive ($230), has a good zoom ratio for a small point-and-shoot, and did well in our color scoring. On the other hand, there's no manual control to speak of, it struggled in most of our other tests, and the lens is slow, particularly for handheld telephoto shooting in less-than-ideal light. If a long zoom at a low price strikes you as a winning combination, the A2000 is worth considering, but you should keep the downsides in mind."

Canon Powershot Cashback Offer

Canon Powershot SX110 ISCanon are offering £30 cashback on the Canon SX10 IS, A2000 IS, A1000 IS and SX110 IS - the new Canon Powershot SX110 IS - is an update to the SX100 IS - and features a more compact body, 9 megapixel sensor, larger 3" screen, 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, Face Detection, Face Select & Track, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection, 20 shooting modes including Easy Mode, and ISO 1600. The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £175

"The SX110 IS improves on the SX100 with higher resolution, smaller less bulky body, new 3" screen, and better layout of controls, all for roughly the same price. Unfortunately the camera is still missing a wide angle lens, HD video, suffers from purple fringing, and high noise. Apart from these issues, image quality is generally very good, with excellent detail, sharpness, colour, and saturation - as long as you stick to the lower ISO settings."

With 10 megapixels, a 6X optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization and 3 inch LCD, and now a slimmer design than its predecessors, the PowerShot A2000 is certainly appealing to those looking for a capable camera with a low price tag."

Canon Powershot G10 Review

Canon Powershot G10Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new 14.7 megapixel Canon Powershot G10 - an update to the G9 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, RAW support, 3" screen, VGA video recording and ISO1600. The Canon G10 is available for £353:

"The Canon PowerShot G10 is still going to be the benchmark by which all other high-spec compacts are measured, but it's no longer the top dog. It is beaten on picture quality and portability by the smaller, lighter and slightly cheaper Panasonic LX3, and is beaten badly on value for money by most entry-level DSLRs. It's still an impressive camera and can produce excellent results, especially in Raw mode, but the price means its appeal is a little too specialised for some."

"Keep the light levels up and the ISO sensitivity down, and you'll get very nice results from the PowerShot SX10. Photos are well exposed (though there is occasional highlight clipping), with vivid, accurate color. Sharpness is right in the middle of the spectrum -- not too sharp, not too soft."

"The settings are a cinch to navigate due to the excellent control scheme and well designed menu system. The body feels large, but well proportioned, and all the buttons are big and uniquely shaped so that you won't hit the wrong one. It has a decent 10x zoom, good color and video scores, and costs a reasonable $250. It's not the smallest, fastest or prettiest camera that we've ever used, but we like it."

The IXUS 90 IS is available for £167:

"With its chiselled, slightly understated design, the SD790 IS / Ixus 90 is probably the best looking camera in Canon's current Elph lineup, and with its responsive operation and surprisingly good image quality it does exactly what a pocket camera should do; take great pictures with the minimum of fuss."

Canon Powershot A2000 IS Review

Canon Powershot A2000 ISDCResource have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A2000 IS - the 10 megapixel camera is an update to the A720 IS and features a 6x optical zoom with optical IS, 17 shooting modes including Easy Mode, Face Detection Technology, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection Technology, 3” LCD, it takes AA batteries and is available for £155

"The PowerShot A2000 IS has a much slimmer, sleeker look than its predecessor. While it undoubtedly looks better than the PowerShot A720, the A2000 isn't as easy to hold. And, unless you have "micro thumbs", odds are that you'll be smudging the LCD when you hold the camera. Despite being made entirely of plastic, the A2000 is well put together, with sturdy doors and a metal tripod mount."

Budget Digital Camera Test at DPReview

Canon A590 ISDPReview have just reviewed the new Canon Powershot A590 IS in a group test with nine other budget cameras. The A590 IS features an 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries - with full manual controls, support for optional lens accessories, and optical image stabilisation. The A590 is available for £103 making it the cheapest Canon available with optical image stabilisation.

"If you're looking for a simple point and shoot camera - or take a lot of pictures in the evening with flash - the A590 IS certainly wouldn't be high on our list of recommendations. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a camera with extensive photographic control that will allow you to learn about the craft of picture taking without breaking the bank, this is an absolute bargain."

"The G10 is a camera you don't want to put down once you have picked it up. It encourages users to take pictures, and turn the dials: to experiment and have fun. This is one heck of a fun camera to use. In the hand, it inspires confidence with solid construction and secure and comfortable hand grip. The G10 quickly becomes second nature to use, which is not something that can be said of many compacts."

"A sturdy plastic brick of a camera, the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS builds on its S5 predecessor chiefly with that bigger and better lens range, though ease of use has also been improved. What's been kept is the tilt-and-swivel LCD and dedicated record button for instant video clips – sensible, as both help this Canon stand out from the 'superzoom' crowd."

Canon Powershot A2000 IS Review

Canon Powershot A2000 ISCameralabs have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A2000 IS - the 10 megapixel camera is an update to the A720 IS and features a 6x optical zoom with optical IS, 17 shooting modes including Easy Mode, Face Detection Technology, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection Technology, 3” LCD, it takes AA batteries and is available for £155

"Canon’s PowerShot A2000 IS is a good value compact with a longer than average optical zoom range and very effective image stabilisation. It may be lacking the 28mm wide angle coverage of Panasonic’s models or Canon’s own IXUS 870IS / SD 880IS, but it’ll outgun most at the price in the telephoto stakes, zooming into an equivalent of 216mm. This is ideal if you find yourself frustrated with the maximum reach of other compacts."

It’s built like a brick yet comfortable to use, boasts full manual control along with a flash hotshoe and RAW recording, has an excellent looking screen, a flexible zoom range with wide angle capabilities and decent stabilisation, and the potential to deliver images packed with detail – again so long as you stick to the lowest sensitivities and largest apertures."

Canon Powershot E1 Review

It is available in white, pink, and blue for £130

"Inside, the Canon E1 is essentially a PowerShot A580 with two million extra – if largely superfluous – pixels, slightly improved macro and movie modes, plus infinity focus and image stabilisation thrown in. So if you like the quirky design and colours, and can get over the soapbox-like build, you may realise that this is a fairly decent point-and-shoot model after all."

Canon G10 Nikon P6000 Panasonic LX3 Review

Canon Powershot G10ByThom have reviewed the new 14.7 megapixel Canon Powershot G10 and compared it to the Nikon Coolpix P6000 and Panasonic Lumix LX3. The G10 is an update to the G9 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, RAW support, 3" screen, VGA video recording and ISO1600. The Canon G10 is available for £372:

"Unfortunately, no single camera quite hits the nail fully on the head. For my mark, the Canon comes the closest for my types of use, though the Panasonic provides capabilities that I sometimes need and stays in the bag, too. The Nikon will get sold off and I'll go back to waiting for Nikon to design a decent compact."

Canon Powershot G10 vs Nikon Coolpix P6000

Canon Powershot G10Photography BLOG have reviewed the new 14.7 megapixel Canon Powershot G10 and compared it to the Nikon Coolpix P6000. The G10 is an update to the G9 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, RAW support, 3" screen, VGA video recording and ISO1600. The Canon G10 is available for £380:

"The Nikon Coolpix P6000 is a good camera, but the Canon PowerShot G10 is better - it's as simple as that. In terms of both features and handling, the G10 has the edge, and it was invariably the camera that I reached for first. The contest would be a lot closer if the P6000's unique features - GPS and LAN connectivity - had actually lived up to expectations, but they are both rather weak in their current implementation."

The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £182

"Canon has created yet another appealing super-zoom model, with an affordable price tag. While I did have an issue with the amount of noise at higher ISO settings, the camera does have the ability to capture beautiful images; just keep the ISO at 200 and below."

Canon Powershot G10 vs Nikon Coolpix P6000

Canon Powershot G10Luminous Landscape have reviewed the new 14.7 megapixel Canon Powershot G10 and compared it to the Nikon Coolpix P6000. The G10 is an update to the G9 - it features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, RAW support, 3" screen, VGA video recording and ISO1600. The Canon G10 is available for £380:

"The net of this comparison is that while the Nikon P6000 is a fine little camera, it finds itself in the unfortunate position of being released at the same time as the Canon G10, which it would appear is an attempt by Canon to produce a full-featured pocket camera with the highest quality that they are capable of. In this they appear to have succeeded, unlike with last year's G9, which was a decent camera, but which didn't seem to be a whole-hearted effort on Canon's part."

"I'd buy a Canon G10 and use it for landscapes, travel, nature and the weird stuff I shoot instead of dragging along an SLR. Even if I was carrying an SLR, I'd rather grab a G10 than change lenses on an SLR. The G10 is that good."

"The G10 is undoubtedly the best ever Canon G-Series camera, and is a serious alternative to both an entry-level DSLR and other similar compacts (most notably the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 and the Nikon Coolpix P6000). It ultimately fails to gain our whole-hearted recommendation, however, principally because of the noisy images at slow ISO speeds, and the rather prohibitive price-tag of £449 / $499"

Canon Powershot A470DPInterface have reviewed the new Canon Powershot A470 - it features a 7 megapixel sensor, a 3.4x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, takes 2 AA batteries, face detection focus, and will be available in grey, orange, green, red and blue. The Canon Powershot A470 is available for £72:

"While the camera’s performance was excellent (even more so when you consider this is an entry-level camera), the A470’s 20 FPS movie frame rate wasn’t too impressive. Then again, the main purpose you’re getting a camera is to take photos, and the PowerShot A470 does take good photos."
