Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 Camera Review

Fuji 3D V1 Front

Pocket Lint have reviewed the new Fujifilm Real 3D W1 camera. The camera features two 3x optical zoom lenses, two 10 megapixel sensors, 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratio, 3D VGA video recording (zoom is not available whilst recording), ISO1600, 8cm macro in 2D mode, and a 2.8" screen. The camera should be available in September

"Snapping 3D images is great fun and the W1 gives you plenty of scope to explore 3D photography. But there is a slight stumbling block at the moment: viewing your images. Sure, the screen on the back gives you an instant viewing option, but beyond this you might find yourself too far ahead of the curve. Fujifilm also sell the V1 viewer (£370) which will act as a photo frame for showing off your images, but it's an expensive option. Fujifilm will also be offering an option to print your images, but that currently requires them to be printed in Japan and sent to you (at a yet-to-be-determined price for the UK). "

FinePix Real 3D W1 3D Camera Announced

Fuji 3D V1 Front

Fujifilm has officially announced the new Fujifilm Real 3D W1 camera, and V1 3D photoframe.

"Fujifilm are extremely proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new imaging technology: the "FinePix Real 3D System". The World's first three dimensional (3D) digital imaging system that lets you enjoy three dimensional images without the need to wear special 3D glasses. The FinePix Real 3D system incorporates a 3D digital camera "FinePix Real 3D W1", a 3D picture viewer "FinePix Real 3D V1", and 3D prints."

Fuji 3D V1 Back

"The Real 3D W1 camera features the newly developed "Real 3D Lens System." To achieve a natural, 3D image, it was necessary to flawlessly layer together two images, so two Fujinon lenses, renowned for their high resolution and exquisite rendering, were installed. A robust aluminum die-cast frame has been used to protect the lenses from vibration and impact. A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align two lenses, is also possible."

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D System

Fujifilm Real 3D Digital CameraTime Magazine has more details of the new Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D System, we had a look at the prototype at Photokina last year. The new prototype is looking much more polished, featuring two 10 megapixel sensors, stereo sound, and an expected retail price of $600, and should be available in September.

"I got a look at Fujifilm's prototype 3-D camera last month at the company's Tokyo headquarters, and was pleasantly surprised that it was not much bigger or heavier than some conventional digicams. The most obvious difference is that Fuji's 10-megapixel shooter employs two lenses, spaced about the same distance apart as human eyes, which allow for the taking of simultaneous photos of the same scene from different angles. This is where the 3-D magic originates. When two slightly different images are presented discretely to the right and left eyes of a viewer, that person's brain combines them into a single image, resulting in a stereoscopic illusion of depth."
