Olympus has announced the new Olympus Mju / Stylus Tough 6020 - a compact waterproof, tough camera, it is shockproof (from 1.5 metres), waterproof (upto 5 metres), dustproof, freezeproof, and crushproof. It also features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens, 14 megapixel sensor, anti-shake sensor, 2.7" screen, 720p HD video recording, SD / SDHC card support, and will be available in a number of colours. "The Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 competes well in many areas against other rugged/waterproof camera models. We think our sample had a tilted sensor chip, as its images were very soft in one corner, the softness extending far into the frame. Were it not for that particular defect, its image quality was competitive in the category. It's also stylish, combines ruggedness with a waterproof rating of 10 feet, and it offers optical image stabilization as well."

"It's rated to 10 meters, or 33 feet, without a case, making it just as pressure resistant as the Powershot D10. And there's a 30 meter case, optional, for deeper excursions, too, which the Canon doesn't have. It is the only periscoping internal zoom lens with a mechanized metal cover."

"The camera has quite rich, saturated, pleasing colours. There was good detail, and the camera took a number of pleasing images outside, with good contrast, with little or no chromatic aberations and purple fringing. In general 'normal' quality jpeg artefacts are not easily seen, however areas with strong contrasts benefit from use of the highest quality setting. Images are slightly soft, with some slight corner softness, but nothing too worrying."

"This 10 megapixel camera with a 28–102mm (film equivalent) lens is the latest version of Olympus’ go-anywhere camera. It is waterproof (to 3 metres), snowproof (to -10c) and shockproof for a drop of 1.5m. We didn’t test it, but it feels robust enough. The lens is folded in the body and doesn’t extend for focus or zoom. Manual controls are limited, but there is a “beauty” setting on the mode dial."
