Kodak Easyshare Z915 Review

Kodak Easyshare Z915The Register have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare Z915 - a compact 10x optical zoom digital camera, it features optical image stabilisation, 10 megapixel sensor, AA batteries, 2.5" screen, and will be available in red, blue, black and grey for £179 from May:

"When it comes to performance, there’s no doubt that the 10x optical zoom is a bonus, although its specification is disappointing at the wide angle end. However, the optical image stabilisation system ensures you get rock-steady images when shooting at the extreme end of the telephoto setting. We also liked the panoramic mode, which was easy to use, and stitches up to three images in-camera."

Sony Cybershot H20 Review at DPReview

Sony H20

DPReview have reviewed the new Sony Cybershot DSC-H20 as part of their super zoom group test. The H20 is a compact ultra zoom camera with a 10x optical zoom lens, 10 megapixel sensor, optical image stabilisation, 720p HD Video recording, 3" screen, and face and smile detection. The Sony H20 is available for £223

"As we've mentioned above the Sony H20 differentiates itself from the rest of the pack by its 38-380mm zoom range which doesn't really give you anything you could call a wide-angle but at the same time offers plenty of reach at the long end of the zoom. If this is a good or bad thing entirely depends on you photographic needs but for general use some more wide-angle would certainly be recommendable."

Olympus Mju Stylus 9000 Review

Olympus Mju 9000

Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new pocket zoom Olympus Mju Stylus 9000 - a compact camera with a wide angle 10x optical zoom lens, 12 megapixel sensor, 2.7" screen, image stabilisation, 1cm macro mode, and face detection. It is available in black and blue for £238.

"The Olympus Mju 9000 is a sensibly designed and well made camera with a very useful zoom range. It is easy to use, performs well and produces good results in most situations. However the lack of some important features such as an AF assist lamp or any colour adjustments limit its appeal somewhat, especially considering the relatively high price."

Panasonic Lumix TZ7 (ZS3) Review

Panasonic TZ7DPExpert have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix TZ7 - it features a 25mm Ultra Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, 3" screen, 12 megapixel sensor, HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Lite with Dolby Stereo Digital Creator, and intelligent auto mode. The Panasonic Lumix TZ7 is available for £333.

"In the meantime we took the camera to the Zoo to try out its AVCHD [that is high definition video] capabilities. We were impressed. It’s impossible to give a real idea of what the camera can do on this blog site, but this little clip gives some indication of the accuracy of focus and exposure and shows the remarkable resolution of the video mode. The TZ7 takes the “hybrid” concept onto a new plane."

Canon Powershot SX200 IS Review

Canon Powershot SX200 IS

DCResource have reviewed the new Canon Powershot SX200 IS - a compact ultra zoom camera with a 28mm wide angle 12x optical zoom lens, 12 megapixel sensor, 3" screen, optical image stabilisation, and HD video recording, it is available in blue, grey or red for £282.

"The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS is a very capable and compact ultra zoom camera. It offers very good photo quality, a 28 - 336 mm lens, a nice combination of automatic and manual controls, a large LCD, and a HD movie mode. It's not perfect though; it has a weak, slow-to-charge flash, battery life is below average, and you can't zoom while recording a movie mode. Despite that, the PowerShot SX200 is a good choice for a travel camera, and it earns my recommendation."

Canon Powershot SX110 IS Review

Canon Powershot SX110 ISImaging Resource have reviewed the new Canon Powershot SX110 IS - an update to the SX100 IS - the new camera features a more compact body, 9 megapixel sensor, larger 3" screen, 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, Face Detection, Face Select & Track, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection, 20 shooting modes including Easy Mode, and ISO 1600. The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £185

"The Canon SX110 IS manages to pack an optically stabilized 10x zoom lens into a relatively compact body, but its image quality still competes very well with that of full-sized long-zoom cameras. In high ISO shooting, it gives up a little ground to Canon's own SX10 IS, which uses a more powerful version of Canon's DIGIC processor, but the Canon SX110 IS's more compact body is much easier to pack along on outings and trips."

Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-565 Ultra ZoomPhotography BLOG have reviewed the new Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom - the camera features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens (26 - 520mm), 10 megapixel sensor, 13.5 fps shooting (at 3mp), 25 scene modes, shadow adjustment, face detection, anti shake sensor, manual modes, a 2.5" screen, and supports XD and MicroSD cards. The camera is available for £244

"On the plus side too, the Olympus SP-565 UZ handles well and is intuitive to use, letting the user more or less point and shoot. The images it delivers are perfectly acceptable too, exposures even for the most part, while balance accurate and the kind of detail you'd expect from a 10 megapixel contender. Put simply, with a solid build too it disappoints in very few respects, leading to our better than average scores pretty much across the board."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Review

Panasonic FZ28Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 - an update to the FZ18 - it features a 27mm Wide Angle 18x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, 13fps at 3mp, Full Manual Operation, a 10.1 megapixels CCD, ISO1600, and a 2.7" screen. The FZ28 is available for £245

"True to the line, the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 is a good quality digital camera with a long, 18x zoom. Image quality is excellent at wide angle, and only suffers a bit in the corners at telephoto. Most impressive is the Panasonic FZ28's low chromatic aberration at wide angle, as well as the sharp corners, something most long zoom digital cameras cannot achieve."

The camera is available for £344

"Other than that, the Canon PowerShot is a strong candidate to be the overall winner of the current Megazoom cameras. For now, the choice is up to the end user. And fair is fair; the technical lab tests merciless show the weak spots of a camera. It doesn’t always have to be like that in practice, since shooting conditions do differ vastly. The overall picture quality is of a high level and the Canon SX10 IS offers excellent users ease, as well as a swift response and is an ideal all-round camera."

Canon Powershot SX1 IS Review

Canon SX1 ISPhotography BLOG have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Canon Powershot SX1 IS - it features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, ISO1600, a 10 megapixel CMOS sensor which allows HD video recording (1080p), 4fps shooting, HD out, swivel 2.8" screen. The camera is available for £399

"Whereas we concluded the SX10 IS felt like a lot of camera for the money, it's hard to get away from the fact that with the SX1 IS the opposite feels true. If you were originally considering the SX10 IS you could pay a little more and get a 'proper' DSLR, albeit without the extensive lens range or video clips, but the SX1 IS is more expensive than most consumer-level DSLRs already."

Best Digital Cameras of 2008

DigiCamReview Best of 20082008 has certainly been an interesting year with literally hundreds of new cameras released - the majority of them all feature the same boring specifications - a standard 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5" screen, and about 8 megapixels - but if you look closely you will find the gems - increasing numbers of cameras now feature a wide angle lens, optical image stabilisation, HD video recording, and extended optical zoom. The best example of this, and in our opinion, the best digital camera of 2008, is...

Panasonic TZ5The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 - it scores highly on all aspects, it offers 9 megapixels, a wide angle 10x optical zoom lens, a large 3" screen, a compact pocketable metal body, and optical image stabilisation, not only that but offers high definition video recording with optical zoom and image stabilisation. This would all be useless unless the camera backed this up with good image quality, and thankfully this camera provides that with good detail and great colour. If you had to buy only one camera this year, or indeed next, then the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 would be our choice. Read our Panasonic Lumix TZ5 Review for more information - the TZ5 is available for £176.

Have a look at our sample photos.

Best Prototype of 2008:

Olympus Micro Four Thirds PrototypeUnfortunately this camera system won't be available till next year, but should revolutionise the digital camera market by providing an interchangeable lens camera with the dimensions of a serious compact camera! Other great Digital Cameras of 2008:

Fuji F100fdFor the lowest noise in a compact camera and great detail, the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd has to be commended - it takes great 12 megapixel photos, features a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens and has a compact metal body, if only it had full manual controls and a better menu system and it might have been featured above. Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd Review

Fuji S8100fdCameras.co.uk have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd - an update to the S8000fd - it features a new 10 megapixel sensor, a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, high ISO settings, anti-shake sensor, and is available for £146

"The Finepix S8100 is a good all round super zoom camera. It does not have quite the same number of advanced features that some super zoom cameras offer. This is reflected in the price and you should find this camera a bit cheaper than the top of the range models from Canon, Sony and Panasonic."

Prosumer Digital Camera Group Review

Panasonic TZ5DPReview have reviewed several prosumer cameras including the Canon SX110 IS, and the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 - the camera features a wide angle 28mm 10x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 9 megapixel sensor, and 3.0" screen. The camera will be available in March in silver, black, and blue. The TZ5 also features Digital Red-eye Correction, and is available for £175

"The TZ5 ticks so many boxes that you can forgive its rather unimpressive pixel-level image quality - and to be honest you won't even see it in normal prints. The standout feature is the excellent and truly versatile 28-280mm zoom lens, but on its own that wouldn't be enough to win our love; it's the whole package that works so well: the stylish, pocketable casing, the reliable automatic systems, the clean, logical user interface and the keen pricing."

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review

Nikon P80Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P80 Ultra Zoom digital camera - it features a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27-486mm equivalent), 10 megapixel sensor, sensor-shift vibration reduction, 2.7" screen, ISO6400, 1cm macro mode, and Distortion control corrects for barrel distortion. The Nikon Coolpix P80 is available for £240:

"The Coolpix P80 performed well in terms of timing and utility, and offers an excellent range of exposure modes and shooting options to accommodate a wide range of user experience levels. But image quality left something to be desired. The Nikon P80's 18x optical zoom lens covers a 35mm equivalent range of 27-486mm, which is good, but the high chromatic aberration across the frame is a difficult compromise to accept."

The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £175

"The SX110 IS improves on the SX100 with higher resolution, smaller less bulky body, new 3" screen, and better layout of controls, all for roughly the same price. Unfortunately the camera is still missing a wide angle lens, HD video, suffers from purple fringing, and high noise. Canon Powershot SX10 IS Review

Canon Powershot SX10 ISDCResource have reviewed the Canon Powershot SX10 IS, it has a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, ISO1600, a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, VGA video recording, and a swivel 2.5" screen. The camera is available for £259

"Keep the light levels up and the ISO sensitivity down, and you'll get very nice results from the PowerShot SX10. Photos are well exposed (though there is occasional highlight clipping), with vivid, accurate color. Sharpness is right in the middle of the spectrum -- not too sharp, not too soft."

Canon Powershot SX110 IS Review

Canon Powershot SX110 ISDigital Camera Info have reviewed the new Canon Powershot SX110 IS - an update to the SX100 IS - the new camera features a more compact body, 9 megapixel sensor, larger 3" screen, 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, Face Detection, Face Select & Track, Auto Red-Eye Correction, Motion Detection, 20 shooting modes including Easy Mode, and ISO 1600. The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £175

"The settings are a cinch to navigate due to the excellent control scheme and well designed menu system. The body feels large, but well proportioned, and all the buttons are big and uniquely shaped so that you won't hit the wrong one. It has a decent 10x zoom, good color and video scores, and costs a reasonable $250. It's not the smallest, fastest or prettiest camera that we've ever used, but we like it."

Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-565 Ultra ZoomCameras.co.uk have reviewed the new Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom - the camera features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens (26 - 520mm), 10 megapixel sensor, 13.5 fps shooting (at 3mp), 25 scene modes, shadow adjustment, face detection, anti shake sensor, manual modes, a 2.5" screen, and supports XD and MicroSD cards. The camera is available for £255

"To be honest I don't think there is a great deal to choose between most super zoom cameras. Unless you are very fussy about picture quality they all do a decent job, so a lot of your decision to buy is likely to be based on features and handling. The Olympus SP-565UZ handles well and has a full range of features. Therefore it is worth adding to any shortlist."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 Review

Casio EX-FH20Gizmodo have reviewed the new ultra high speed, ultra zoom Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 - it features a 9 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 26mm wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, 40 fps shooting at 7 megapixels, High Definition (HD) video recording at 1280 x 720 pixels, at 30 fps, RAW, 1cm macro, ISO upto 1600 and has a large 3" screen. The camera is available for £399

"If you choose an FH20 over the F1, you sacrifice more than just not-as-slow-mo video. Without separate buttons for video and stills, you lose the ability to capture images while you record video, a great feature in the last model and the hardest thing to lose. Also gone is ultra-fast 60 fps LED strobe flash option, but it can still fire off 5 fps with the standard flash firing (vs. the F1's 7 fps)."

Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-565 Ultra ZoomBuy N Shoot have reviewed the new Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom - the camera features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens (26 - 520mm), 10 megapixel sensor, 13.5 fps shooting (at 3mp), 25 scene modes, shadow adjustment, face detection, anti shake sensor, manual modes, a 2.5" screen, and supports XD and MicroSD cards. The camera is available for £255

"In conclusion, the Olympus SP-565UZ is a versatile camera that delivers solid results and all-around performance to justify its mid-range price tag. It checks the majority of appropriate boxes in terms of design, functionality and image quality making it another worthy unit in the extensive Olympus range."

Panasonic Lumix FZ28 Review

Panasonic FZ28Cameralabs have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 - an update to the FZ18 - it features a 27mm Wide Angle 18x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, 13fps at 3mp, Full Manual Operation, a 10.1 megapixels CCD, ISO1600, and a 2.7" screen. The FZ28 is available for £225

"The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 represents a fairly minor upgrade over its predecessor, but given that was our favourite super-zoom of 2007, the new model has a great deal going for it. So with the FZ28 you get a compact, lightweight super-zoom camera with 10 Megapixel resolution, a huge 18x optically-stabilised range, HD video recording in the 720p format, support for RAW files, a mid-sized, but good-looking 2.7in screen, manual controls and one of the best fully automatic modes on the market. It’s a lot of camera for the money."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 Review

Casio EX-FH20Photography BLOG have reviewed the new ultra high speed, ultra zoom Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 - it features a 9 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 26mm wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, 40 fps shooting at 7 megapixels, High Definition (HD) video recording at 1280 x 720 pixels, at 30 fps, RAW, 1cm macro, ISO upto 1600 and has a large 3" screen. The camera is available for £429

"With its curved slopes and matt black finish recalling a baby DSLR, from the front Casio's EX-FH20 looks not only attractive but, for the consumer electronics brand, unusually sophisticated too. It is also to be commended for including less well-traveled features that set it apart from the competition – even if they don't go quite far enough to raise it above."

"A sturdy plastic brick of a camera, the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS builds on its S5 predecessor chiefly with that bigger and better lens range, though ease of use has also been improved. What's been kept is the tilt-and-swivel LCD and dedicated record button for instant video clips – sensible, as both help this Canon stand out from the 'superzoom' crowd."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 Review

Casio EX-FH20Digital Camera Info have reviewed the new ultra high speed, ultra zoom Casio Exilim Pro EX-FH20 - it features a 9 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 26mm wide angle 20x optical zoom lens, 40 fps shooting at 7 megapixels, High Definition (HD) video recording at 1280 x 720 pixels, at 30 fps, RAW, 1cm macro, ISO upto 1600 and has a large 3" screen. The camera is available for £429

"The Casio Exilim EX-FH20 essentially delivers a couple of absolutely amazing features, but can only muster mediocre image quality, and comes with a stiff price tag. Deciding whether you should purchase it or not boils down to how useful you'll find those features. The camera fared poorly in all our image quality tests except for white balance and was slow to focus."

Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom Review

Olympus SP-565 Ultra ZoomDPExpert have reviewed the new Olympus SP-565 Ultra Zoom - the camera features a wide angle 20x optical zoom lens (26 - 520mm), 10 megapixel sensor, 13.5 fps shooting (at 3mp), 25 scene modes, shadow adjustment, face detection, anti shake sensor, manual modes, a 2.5" screen, and supports XD and MicroSD cards. The camera is available for £269

"Frankly we think the 20x zoom range is expecting too much. It involves too many optical compromises. In the middle of the zoom range resolution is reasonable but the extremes are plagued with distortion or diminished sharpness. There is an optional tele-converter that extends the range to 1200mm – Olympus say it is specially for bird photography!"

The SX110 IS is available in silver or black for £182

"Canon has created yet another appealing super-zoom model, with an affordable price tag. While I did have an issue with the amount of noise at higher ISO settings, the camera does have the ability to capture beautiful images; just keep the ISO at 200 and below."

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review

Nikon P80NeoCamera have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P80 Ultra Zoom digital camera - it features a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27-486mm equivalent), 10 megapixel sensor, sensor-shift vibration reduction, 2.7" screen, ISO6400, 1cm macro mode, and Distortion control corrects for barrel distortion. The Nikon Coolpix P80 is available for £240:

"It is fun to have a stabilized wide-angle 18X optical zoom lens. It is even more fun when it fits in a coat pocket or small pouch. This is truly what the Nikon Coolpix P80 is about. While it performs reasonably in some areas, and the lens is good for such a long range, this ultra-zoom has image quality problems which are hard to ignore given the competition."

Fujifilm FinePix S2000hd Review

Fuji S2000HDTrusted Reviews have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S2000hd - an update to the S1000fd - it features a wide angle 15x optical zoom lens, 10 megapixel sensor, HD recording (1280 x 720 pixels video) and output, it comes with a remote control and cable, a 2.7" screen, ISO 1600, image stabilisation, and manual mode. The FinePix S2000HD is available for £226:

"Overall the S2000HD offers a lot of camera for the money, and is one of the most versatile super-zoom models on the market. It's not without a few faults, but the excellent handling, wide zoom range, fast performance and superb low-light focusing make this a camera that can cope in most situations. As a general-purpose camera it's hard to beat for the price."

Fujifilm FinePix S100fs Review

Fuji S100fsLetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix S100FS. The FS stands for Film Simulation. The camera features a wide angle 14.3x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation and 28mm-400mm equivalent range, an 11 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" tilt screen, ISO upto 6400 (at 6mp), extended dynamic range, RAW support, multi-bracketing, manual controls, and VGA 30fps video mode. The camera is available for £395:

"And that brings me to a weak point of the Fujifilm S100fs. Many functions relate to each other, although it is not always clear as to how they are related. Even reading the manual frequently and thoroughly doesn't always make it clear. If you increase the dynamic range, the ISO range becomes limited. The same goes for certain film modes, which require an enhanced dynamic range. Many settings allow you to use bracketing but not in RAW mode."

The FinePix S2000HD is available for £199:

"The market for digital cameras with extra long zoom lenses is crowded and it takes something special for a camera to really stand out. In my view the Fuji Finepix S2000HD does not match up to the best cameras in this section. It is true that it is not the most expensive super zoom camera, but I feel by paying that bit more you will get better value for money."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Review

Panasonic FZ28DPExpert have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 - an update to the FZ18 - it features a 27mm Wide Angle 18x optical zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, 13fps at 3mp, Full Manual Operation, a 10.1 megapixels CCD, ISO1600, and a 2.7" screen. The FZ28 is available for £227

"This camera is a pleasure to use. The bad old days of intolerable shutter lag in all-in-one superzooms are well behind us – the Panasonic is as responsive as any compact camera. It can’t match a true SLR, but it is priced against the low end entry SLRs, so when it comes to choosing a camera the advantages of the FZ28 are bulk and weight and the fabulous lens."

The FinePix S2000HD is available for £199:

"So, is the S2000HD alternatively a good option for the relative photographic novice who nevertheless requires a large zoom reach? The answer is pretty much yes. It's fun to use, delivers the results and even if, in the final analysis, they're neither as sharp or as evenly exposed as some of the competition, overall they're perfectly acceptable given the build and asking price."

"So, in summing up, the Canon PowerShot SX110 is £60 less than its predecessor on launch, its LCD has grown by half an inch, while it now offers an extra million pixels into the bargain, a new 'easy mode' plus a larger 32MB SD card in the box. "Just as it did when it introduced the 18x zoom, Olympus has broken the long zoom barrier again with the 20x SP-570. At the same time, the company added a hot shoe (and wireless flash support) and a command dial to bring the SP-570 even closer to digital SLR standards."

"If you are looking for a camera with some extra zoom and are put off by size and complexity then the Easyshare Z8612 IS may provide the answer. Although much larger than a pocket camera the Easyshare Z8612 IS is smaller than most super zoom models. Despite the manual exposure controls on offer I also found the camera fairly straightforward. It is also one of the cheaper super zoom cameras."

Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 Review

Casio F1Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 - the camera features a 6 megapixel CMOS sensor, CMOS shift anti-shake, 12x optical zoom lens, 2.8" screen, ISO 100 - 1600, 60fps shooting at full resolution, a slow motion view, rapid flash allowing 7fps shooting with flash on, RAW shooting, stereo microphone, Full HD 1920 × 1080 video recording, and 300 fps, 600 fps or 1,200 fps movie recording. The EX-F1 is available for £599.

"Bottom Line - the Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 is one awesome prosumer digicam. While I was hoping for a bit better high ISO performance from the 6-megapixel CMOS image sensor, I came to the realization that Casio built this camera for Speed! Like an F1 race car, this is the fastest camera we have ever tested in the burst mode category."

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Review

Panasonic TZ5DPInterface have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 - the camera features a wide angle 28mm 10x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 9 megapixel sensor, and 3.0" screen. The camera will be available in March in silver, black, and blue. The TZ5 also features Digital Red-eye Correction, and is available for £175

"The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is a relatively compact camera for a super-zoom. It has a useful 10X optical zoom lens which starts at 28 mm and it comes with optical image stabilization. While there's a nice lens in front, there's a fancy LCD on the back too. The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 has a large, high-resolution 3 inch LCD, on which you can see what you're framing in almost any condtiion. Some things like the plastic doors and tripod mount could be better though."

Kodak Easyshare Z8612 IS Review

Kodak Z8612Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare Z8612 IS Digital Camera - it's an 8 megapixel camera with a 12x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" screen, ISO100 - 3200, and optical image stabilisation. The Kodak Easyshare Z8612 is available for £125

"The Kodak EasyShare Z8612 IS may be relatively cheap for a long-zoom model, but its numerous shortcomings mean that it’s not particularly good value for money. Build quality is below average, it has a number of annoying handling problems, and overall performance is very slow. While image quality isn’t completely awful there are also some problems in this area."
