Panasonic Lumix TZ27

HotUKDeals recently posted details of an offer on the Panasonic Lumix TZ27 – available from Currys – it appears to be based on last years Panasonic Lumix TZ30 – but lacking the GPS feature. This year, the new models are called the TZ35 and TZ40. The TZ27 is still an interesting camera, with a 14 megapixel MOS sensor, 20x optical zoom lens, 3inch screen, full HD video recording, 260 shot battery life, and it’s available for £159.

The nearest competitors for a price comparison are the Panasonic Lumix TZ30 – available from Amazon UK for £210, which adds GPS.

Pocket Zoom or Travel Zoom cameras are becoming increasingly popular, as they offer a large optical zoom (often 10x or more) as well as a compact(ish) pocketable body, without the larger bulk of an ultra zoom or bridge camera. They often feature a whole host of other useful things like image stabilisation (essential – and luckily all of these models feature it), full HD video recording, and some feature GPS which can be especially handy when travelling. Here are some reviews of high scoring pocket zoom cameras:

Panasonic Lumix TZ30 BlackPanasonic Lumix TZ30Review at ePHOTOzine – This is one of Panasonic’s top end compact zooms, and Panasonic have been making this “TZ” Travel Zoom range of cameras for a long time, no wonder they’re so good at it – they practically invented the category. 20x optical zoom lens, 14 megapixel sensor, GPS, full HD video, 3inch screen. £239 at Amazon UK.

Sony Cybershot HX10v WhiteSony Cybershot HX10vReview at ePHOTOzine – This camera features a 16x optical zoom lens, and Sony’s 18 megapixel sensor. It also features GPS, and Full HD video with stereo sound and optical zoom, 3inch screen. £222 at Amazon UK.

Canon Powershot SX260 HSCanon Powershot SX260 HSReview at ePHOTOzine – This is one of the more compact models, but also features full manual controls. It’s main features are a 20x optical zoom lens, 12 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor (for better low light performance), GPS, Full HD video, 3inch screen. £229 at Amazon UK.

Samsung Galaxy CameraSamsung has announced the new Samsung Galaxy Android Camera – with a 16 megapixel sensor, 21x optical zoom lens, 4.8inch screen, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G connectivity and the latest version of Android 4.1. It also features voice control. Way more details at ePHOTOzine.

Fujifilm FinePix S3200This week I thought I’d try something different and post some links to reviews that are particularly interesting, starting with the Fujifilm FinePix S3200 – a budget 24x optical zoom lens ultra zoom camera, available for £140 from Amazon UK, it features a 14 megapixel sensor, a 3 inch screen, 720p video and manual controls. You can read several reviews, from ePHOTOzine, Photography BLOG, as well as view sample videos on YouTube. It’s also the little brother to the Fujifilm FinePix S4000 (you can find a review here) – a very similar ultra zoom bridge camera, except the S4000 has a 30x optical zoom lens and is available for £175 from Amazon UK.

Panasonic Lumix TZ18Another ultra-zoom that’s popped up on the radar this week, is the Panasonic Lumix TZ20 and TZ18 – the TZ18 is available for only £140 from Amazon UK, you can read a TZ18 review here, both pocket-zoom cameras feature a 16x optical zoom lens, 14 megapixel sensor, 3inch screen, with the TZ20 featuring built in GPS and touch screen – you can read a TZ20 review here. Both cameras have been replaced by newer models, which means these are available for noticeably reduced prices – the higher spec TZ20 is available for £190 from Amazon UK.

Nikon Coolpix S9300 redHows that for a catchy title? DCROTWTW. Perhaps “This Weeks Digital Camera Reviews” would be better? TWDCRs much shorter. But I digress. Here’s a round-up of this weeks digital camera reviews, with details of where to get the best price also:

Nikon Coolpix S9300 – GPS, 18x zoom, Pocket Zoom, £199 from Amazon UK
Fujifilm FinePix W3 3D – Compact 3D camera with 3.5″ 3D screen – £180 from Amazon
Sony Cybershot HX10v – GPS, 16x zoom, compact with 18.2mp sensor, £248 from Amazon
Fujifilm FinePix SL300 – 30x optical zoom bridge camera, £210 from Amazon
