Polaroid i1032Ever since we published our review of the Polaroid i1032 – the camera has been surprisingly difficult to buy – so much so that it seems like nobody sells it anymore! However, due to the camera being released under a number of different brands and model names, it has re-appeared, this time even cheaper. The Advent MP-10 is available for under £110 (£120 in store) from PC World.

The i1032 is a budget 10 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.4″ screen – it’s also known as the Praktica Luxmedia 10-X3 (also seen in Gold), BenQ C1000, Rollei da1325 Prego, Advent MP10 to name a few.

Polaroid i1032We’ve just published our latest review of the Polaroid i1032 – a budget 10 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.4″ screen – it was one of the first compact 10 megapixel digital cameras announced and since then, a number of clones seem to have arrived, the Praktica Luxmedia 10-X3 (also seen in Gold), BenQ C1000, Rollei da1325 Prego, Advent MP10 to name a few. Available from £125, can such an inexpensive digital camera produce the results you want? Find out in our review:

BenQ C1000Trusted Reviews have published the first on-line review of the new 10 megapixel BenQ DC C1000 – it has a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 2.5″ screen. It appears to be very similar to the Polaroid i1032, Praktica Luxmedia 10-X3 etc. I guess one way of choosing between them would be based on colour, especially with Praktica showing a Gold version:

“The DC C1000 is its latest model, and it’s quite a beast. In line with current market trends it has a 10.1-megapixel CCD, a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5in LCD screen and a range of manual exposure options and programmed scene modes that will tempt any keen photographer. It is well made, attractively designed, and has a list price of just £189.99, which compares favourably with the likes of the Casio EX-Z1000 (£242).”

Tekom GX652
Tekom (who?) were demonstrating their digital cameras at Photokina – the GX652 being the most interesting as it features a built in GPS tracker to enable recording of location when taking photos. The camera appears very similar to all the other 4.8x optical zoom lens cameras (such as the Ricoh R1v, Samsung L55W, Praktica Luxmedia 6105, Megxon Z6, etc) and features a 6 megapixel sensor, a 3″ screen, and MPEG4 video at 720 x 480 at 30 fps.

Praktica in Gold
Parktica were showing their top of the range 10 megapixel digital camera in Gold – the camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.4″ screen and appears to be identical to the Polaroid i1032 (apart from the Gold obviously!).

Praktica Luxmedia 6105
Another familiar looking digital camera, the Praktica Luxmedia 6105 with a wide-angle 4.8x optical zoom lens, looks very similar to the Ricoh Caplio R1v.

IXUS 60An article on Digital Camera Info has named the new Canon Powershot SD600 / Digital IXUS 60 as the best selling digital camera on ebay (US). The Canon Digital IXUS 60 is available from Amazon UK for £188.

Inspired by this I thought it would be interesting to check the most common digital cameras on – some interesting results, such as Fuji at number 2 after Canon at number 1, and Pentax – the self-proclaimed “Official Digital Camera of the Internet” – down at number 10, below “Megxon/Tekxon” a generic brand, and just above Konica Minolta who have stopped making digital cameras.
