“RICOH COMPANY, LTD. (helmed by president and CEO Shiro Kondo) will be releasing its newly developed CX5 digital camera model with its wide-angle, high magnification 10.7´ optical zoom (28–300 mm) lens, which has a higher autofocus speed due to the use of Ricoh’s new hybrid AF system.

With the new CX5 model, AF focusing times are decreased to as low as 0.2 sec. for both wide-angle 28 mm and telephoto 300 mm, up to half as short compared to the CX4, using Ricoh’s unique new hybrid AF system. This ensures that you reliably capture the image you were waiting for, never to miss another good shot again.

Using super-resolution technology, the CX5 also allows (1) recording of images with improved resolution using the “Super-resolution” setting and (2) telephoto shooting at up to 600 mm equivalent with minimal degradation in image quality using “Super-resolution Zoom.”

Furthermore, in addition to the new Cooking, Fireworks, and Continuous Golf Swing scene modes, the CX5 has improved features that make shooting photographs even more fun through the use of super-resolution zoom during Zoom Macro mode shooting and other functions.

The CX5 is an even more enhanced compact digital camera that was designed based on the concept of it being “a tool that you will find yourself wanting to use every day.”

“The CX4 boasts a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor combined with advanced Smooth Imaging Engine IV image processing. Poorly-lit indoor or night scenes are rendered in pure, unblemished quality, as of course are brightly-lit subjects. An output pixel interpolation algorithm residing in dedicated logic circuits in the imaging engine reduces loss of detail in highlights to faithfully recreate high-contrast scenes exactly as they appear to the naked eye.”

Ricoh has announced the development and release of the new GXR camera unit RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC*1. Featuring a high-magnification 10.7x (28-300 mm) optical wide-angle zoom (As featured in the Ricoh CX3 – read our review) and high-speed continuous shooting of RAW still images at about 5 frames/second*2, this camera unit has a back-illuminated CMOS sensor and an advanced noise reduction function.

“The Image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine IV and the high-speed image processing capabilities of the CMOS sensor combine to enhance image quality and expand dynamic range. The 10.7x optical zoom expands image-creation possibilities from wide-angle through telephoto. The RAW mode high-speed continuous shooting at about 5 frames/second enables the photographer to catch the desired scene. And the noise reduction function and back-illuminated CMOS sensor together give high imaging performance in low-light shooting.

Also included are a 1280 × 720 pixel HD movie function, the dynamic range double shot mode function, a macro function capable of close-up shooting at 1 cm, and many other enhanced functions for diverse and effortless enjoyment of shooting from 28 mm wide-angle to 300 mm telephoto.

For this model, there are two package types available. The product name “RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC” refers to just the camera unit by itself. Product name “GXR+P10 KIT” refers to the GXR body and the RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC camera unit packaged together. The Ricoh Lens P10 will be available at SRP £249.99 inc”
